Hello,
the first three pictures are customs which my (8-year-old) son did while mom was cooking lunch.
He started by putting the brown robe of Master Sev on a CW Clonetrooper, then raided by sewing box and came up with this:
He then required my help to sew a holster for the DC-15 Blaster Carbine to the poncho of this guy here:
That's the whole gang:
This last pic shows the test-fitting of a Marion Ravenwood head onto the body of a CW Cody. This will be the base for a character named Jenna Gant. You'll see more of her and the lads of the 175th Special Operations Group in a short while.
-
nice.. does her hair interferes with her head movement?
-
Yes, she has long hair wich reaches well down to her shoulders and over the back of her armor.
No head movement for her with this headsculpt. She'll have her helmet taken off in this upcoming scene so it won't matter.
-
Very nice, Commander k.
We are starting to accumulate some father and son customizing teams around here, it seems. I love that cloak with the sewed on holster! I am anxious to see how that Ravenwood Cody fig turns out.
-
SPLINTARN!!!!!! ;D I have several items in that pattern...
VERY nice work there!! Very "tigerstripe meets Star Wars" look to the pattern. *IF* you happen to have a Kashyyyk Trooper with the removeable belt/pouches rig, I'd love to see how it fits over one of the ponchos, kinda like Luke and Leia's Endor ponchos and belts.
-
That's a cool idea!
The splinter material comes from an old Swiss Army shelter half so it is pretty thick fabric.
I'd have to see how a belt could be made to hold it snug on the waist.
But yes, it surely would enhance the look of the Kashyyyk trooper.
My son was inspired by the Hawkbat Battalion figure as you will have guessed.
-
very cool. My kids had me do somthing similar with an old potf boba fett. I'd lost the cape years ago and they wern't satisfied that it didn't have one so I cut off some fabric from a pair of old camo shorts and glued a cape in place for them. I love the sewn on holster for that blaster! that is awesome. even better that it came from an 8 year olds head. Kid's don't think like us and I find myself asking mine all the time "what should I do to this figure, what gun should it have, etc..." they come up with some great stuff.
on the female clone, are you going to leave the armor the way it is or sculpt onto it to make it more feminine? if you are going to sculpt I definately recomend using apoxi sculpt two part self hardining sculpting clay.... it's what I've used in the past. However, if your going to set that figure up next to regular clones the animated figure does look very feminine already!
nice stuff, keep up the good work.
-
See, I looked at the female head on the animated Clone body and immediately thought it should do well as female armor alongside Legacy Clones. Guess I need to go grab up a few ani-Clones now...
;D
-
I thought about building up her chest armor, but decided not to do it on this figure. My guess is that it will look feminine enough when standing alongside non-animated figures.
Maybe I'll do some sculpting on another female figure in the future.
You will get some entries from her personal diary, though, to explain who she is, what she does and so forth.
Hang on.
PS: thanks for the positive comments. I feared that simple stuff like this would look stupidly easy compared to the superb customs you guys do.

PS: thanks for the positive comments. I feared that simple stuff like this would look stupidly easy compared to the superb customs you guys do.
HA!! My figs are just head or accessory swaps! Well, for now, at least. ;D
-
hey man, we all started doing simple customs like this. Hell even I've done a few simple head swaps and accessory changes lately to supliment the more detailed stuff. The simple things are sometimes the most rewarding. Take yours to the next step by getting a set of acrylic paints and doing a few repaints as well.
-
Paintjobs are underway.
I got myself a set of Citadel paints and I'm basically just waiting for some bits and pieces to come in.
It's been quite a while since I did 1/35 scale military figure modelling, but I'm excited to see if I can still do it.
-
Cool deal. I like that female head on the Cody armor. I look forward to seeing what you update us on later!
-
Let's see what I could extract from that holocron:
Personal diary of Jenna Gant, Field Agent, Republic Social Administration
The Republic is really starting to scrape the barrel when it comes to resources.
In the past it was me accompanying a Jedi Knight on the semi-diplomatic mission of “winning hearts and minds” of potential allies.
Now it is me running the mission with a unit of Clones in my wake.
Or am I in their wake?
Most citizens probably don’t see a difference between a Clone and a droid. I guess that is not just because of their armor, but also that –at first glance only, of course – they all look the same.
But they are all different even if they come from the same pool of genes.
Officially they have serial numbers, but they also have names. Either chosen by themselves or given to them by their comrades or their training sergeants back on this planet…shebs, I forgot its name again.
Shebs…I even start talking like they do.
Yesterday Commander Grim detached Sergeant Bass to bodyguard me. He says that I could use a bit of tutoring if I want to stick around with the 175th Special Operations Group for a while.
I guess he’s right.
Only a few days ago, a trooper stepped in front of me in an ambush situation and caught the blast from a shattergun which was coming for me. He was medevacked as soon as possible, but I am not sure if the medi droids were able to help him. I didn’t know him, yet he threw himself into harm’s way.
Fortunately, the 175th has relatively few casualties. They are called “The Shooters” as they are believed to be the unit with the highest rate of confirmed enemy kills. An elite outfit with a great reputation.
Sergeant Bass explained that for every enemy killed, they estimate another twelve wounded or regarding clankers, with heavy oli leaks and in dire need of maintenance.
It seems like the Seps have made the locals a better offer than the Republic so the unit has issued me with a set of armor and a helmet.
Bucket, they call it.
Commander Grim said now that diplomacy has failed, some armor might be a good idea until we will be picked up again by Dustoff...
-
Love the backstory, can't wait to see a finished product. I'm working on a female clone figure myself. Do you have a dremel you can work with? if so I would suggest trying to dremel the waist down and making it even more petite, at least that's what I'm going to try... we'll see how it turns out! lol
-
Good story. I am anxious to see how it all turns out.
-
It's going to take a couple of more days.
I spraypainted her armor and one Clone body tonight and started on the colour applications.
-
That was a great back story. I think that you and Doc will get right along.
what a wonderful customizing family we are accumulating here, eh Tamer?
-
I pinched myself today, but the customs were still there. I get up an hour early to start my day so I can go take a peek and see what the customs guys have added since I have been asleep.
-

In the picture, the matt black swallows a lot of the drybrush and ink wash job.
-
she looks good in black. Would love to see a helmet fit over her head.
-
An "Obi Wan in Clone Armor" helmet might fit, but I don't have one available to prove my theory.
In the finished scene, she'll be holding her helmet under her arm, of course.
-
Darn, Volker, I coud have sent you a casting of that helmet if I would have known you needed one when I packed up your stuff today.
The figs look great!
-
man that black and red combo looks amazing. I realy like what you've gotten started. can't wait to see it finished.
-
Thanks for the thumbs-up, folks.
In the finished scene, you'll also meet Commander Grim and Sergeant Bass.
-
dude those are taking shape nicely..
-
Okay, here's the finished figure. Enjoy:

excellent volker, nice pulse rifle , a top notch custom mate
-
I assume that is a marauder john, man, I love MJ< :)
I like her, she looks pretty sharp, so job well done.
where are her partners?
-
So here's the receipe for Agent Gant:
CW Commander Cody body, Indiana Jones series Marion Ravenwood head, Saga holographic Commander Cody helmet and Marauder Gun Runners Pulse Rifle.
Her comrades are in the works, please bear with me for a couple of days.
-
Awsome work, buddy. I like the weathering on the armor. Good job!
Front Page story coming up........... ;)
-
man that gal looks awesome. The weathering on that armor is top notch. Did you find a helmet that fits? if not oh well, still looks amazing!
I wonder why they havn't done any of the clones with long hair? with all the varying hair styles you'd think at least one of them would have long hair or a rats tail or something. can anyone say mullet clone?!? lol
-
That might be a good hasbro question Spudafett. It would be nice to get some long haired clones as we know they all liked thier individuality.
Nice figure. I too love the weathering on the armor and the weapon she is outfitted with. I take it the helmet won't squeeze over at all? Either way, excellent custom.
-
Thanks for the kind words, folks.
The helmet would fit if her hair wasn't sculpted long and open.
We have to envision it like one of those female race card drivers who takes off her helmet, shakes her head violently to let her long hair flow freely again.
PS: I just noted that Agent Gant made it to the front page. I'm honoured. Thank you very much.
-
Hey - chicks in armor are *almost* as exciting as scantily-clad alien chicks in chains! ;D
Nice work, in all seriousness. I just discovered I *have* a "skinny" thanks to having one from my ATTE. I have alllllll these female heads..... I think I'm gonna have to follow the Commander's example and test-fit me one onto the other.
-
I gotta wonder if soft goods hair like Barbie Dolls would look on those type of heads and that would allow for helmet fitting and perhaps be able to be tied up so it wouldn't flow out of the bottom of the helmet. I think someone needs to articulate this question in the hasbro q and a thread and I will ask it next round.
-
I'll see if I can word it up for ya. ;D
-
I'll see if I can word it up for ya. ;D
LOL. I had a feeling you would.
-

not a problem, buddy. I think it made a great front pager.

Hi all,
this morning my daughter Magdalena and my son Sean joined my customizing session.
Here are two shots showing them honing their painting skills. Magdalena is ten, Sean is eight years old.
-
I finished the three characters of the 175th Special Operations Group this morning:
Commander Grim, Sergeant Bass and their embedded Field Agent Jenna Gant.
I tried the head of a Padme in Naboo pilot disguise on her. With a little drilling work and some surgery, it can be made to fit the ball joint of the CW Cody body. Even the helmet fits now...
Commander Grim is a repainted Holographic Commander Cody, Sergeant Bass is a repainted and slightly altered Clone Commander. I cut the kama away from the belt and holsters in wraithnine fashion.

-
Well done indeed! I am just loving your weathering of these figures and their weapons. Those family custom session shots are cool also.
-
Very cool indeed, Kurgan! It's nice that the Family can get together and do something like that! Makes it so much more fun!
-
ace customs mate ,love the clones on the dio and its great that you have the kids involved .
-
Thanks a lot.
While I'm posting the pics, the kids are still painting.
Here's my other finished project: Mandalorian Walon Vau, one of the one hundred Cuy'val Dar, the Training Sergeants who shaped the Clone Commandos.
Author Karen Traviss describes Vau as wearing black armor so I relied much on inkwash and drybrushing on this figure. It is, in essence, a repaint of the animated Boba Fett with a Jango Fett rocket pack and a custom-made Verpine sniper rifle.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v468/FJR6/Star%20Wars/Vau1.jpg) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v468/FJR6/Star%20Wars/Vau3.jpg) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v468/FJR6/Star%20Wars/Vau4.jpg)
-
Awsome Mando!! This one is front page bound.
-
I'm honoured.
Sergeant Vau will be followed by Sergeant Kal Skirata shortly.
-
Awesome stuff!! What's the donor weapon on Vau's Verpine rifle?
-
Do you know Marauder Gun Runners?
http://www.marauderinc.com/servlet/StoreFront
I used this one here: http://www.marauderinc.com/servlet/Detail?no=279
I've dealt with them a couple of times now and found them to be very reliable and fast-shipping. The quality of their accessories is very good.
-
That is just great to see your kids doing some customizing! I love seeing the whole family involved. By the way, the figures are looking sweet too. Love that Clone squad.
-
Excellent - I nailed source *and* rifle. I haven't yet used Marauder yet, but everyone who has is quick to recommend them. I have chatted with the owner by email about a potential future mold, but turns out Hasbro just released it in the Para-Viper figure. (FG-42 rifle) I have a *LIST* of my wants from them and another - shorter - list of items I want them to make. I just gotta pop some $$ and place an order. 8)

Marauder John is the man!
-
awesome weapons love the e-11 and NCM or "aliens" pulse rifle
-
His E-11 is really cool. It has a working folding stock like the Sterling SMG and is very detailed.
If you want to customize your Stormtroopers, these are the weapons they should pack.
-
Wait...Marauder's "modified Sterling" has a WORKING STOCK???
-
Yep.
He sent me one as a free gift with my last order.
-
Hello,
here's a Special Ops Sniper proudly presenting his customized DC-15 Sniper Rifle:
He's based on the Airborne trooper with the addition of an ARC Trooper kama. His rifle is a standard DC-15 blaster rifle with an added high-powered scope, rangefinder attachment and a magazine for his sniper slugs on the left side of the receiver.
-
thats sweet mate totally sweeeeeeeet!
-
Outstanding job!!
Thanks for the tip on those Sterlings! I'll just order a whole bundle of them, then. Actually, I need to order a whole bunch of stuff by the bundle - Recon and Commando rifles, Mauser broomhandles, MG-34's, etc etc. ;D
-
Nice fig, Volker! I love the camp! That rifle is sweet also.
-
Thank you for the praise, my friends.
Compared to your paintjobs, I can only turn green with envy.
-
Nice one Volker. I love the paint job. That rifle is rather sporting too.
-
Very nice work on both the fig and the weapon.
i really like the technique of dry brush and ink wash... only wish i had the patience for it.
Great job and hope to see more.
-
Mind if I share a secret with you?
Inkwash and Drybrush are incredibly quick and easy and take just a little practice.
Just make sure that you thin down the "ink". I think Jay once called it "like dirty dishwater" in one of his clips on youtube. Slap it on liberally and wipe it off carelessly with a paper towel and you've got it done.
For Drybrush make sure that you don't have much paint left on your stiff old brush. If it leaves barely a mark on the back of your hand, it's fine for the figure. Just brush over the figure and the remnants of the paint will catch on the edges of the figure.
That's all.
I'm sure you will see more custom figures in the near future.
Another is already in the works.
-
Very nice work on both the fig and the weapon.
i really like the technique of dry brush and ink wash... only wish i had the patience for it.
Great job and hope to see more.
Ink washing and dry brushing are both time savers in my experience, :)
-
Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but I always thought they were painting techniques in their own right.
-
they are ,they are also a effective technigue for hiding small mistakes as well, but there is definatly an art to getting a good "wash"
-
well, I started painting while playing 40k, and everyone that was showing me how to paint always said drybrushing was a way to really detail a model, like texture it, without spending a lot of time on it, same with inking.
I've also heard dry brushing called, stubbling or stumbling, something like that.
-
Sounds easy enough.
I might have to give it a try as soon as i can get some better stuff to use.
Is there any specific brands or types that you use and prefer to others?
any tips or pointers are greatly appreciated now.
-
Oddly, I just sat down with my daughter yesterday and explained to her how to use washes.
-
that is me... child like to the extreme.
I am ussually good artistically.. but its been so long I might as well be considered an extreme novice and learn it all from the beginning again.
-
Hey, don't worry.
I just started painting again after about ten years of not painting figures. Back then I was mostly concentrating on 1/35 scale military miniatures and the Verlinden 120mm figures.
A good friend of mine is a professional painter of miniatures in Athens, Greece and he thinks I'm okay for an amateur.
Lemme tell you something: I know that there are some very skilled painters out there (and we've surely got some on this site), but for me it's the fun of doing it and it is a good way to relax after a stressy day at work.
Agreed, you can hide some smaller mistakes with an inkwash and a drybrush, but it won't hide an overall sloppy paintjob.
I use these techniques to add depth and highlights to the details and give the figure a somewhat battle-scarred, dusty and dirty appearance. To be honest, I don't think they should be used as a shortcut so you don't have to do a decent paintjob on the figure.
It might be a bit different when painting wargames armies where you might need numbers.
I'd like to show a variety of characters, it's not army-building.
-
Spoken like a try military modeler, Volker. You will have to show us some pics of your models sometime.
-
Danke schon fur die tippen Kommander Kurgen. Ich brauch alle die helfen dir wollte geben.

-
(dude, if you go to Germany, I'm sending a *shopping list*!!!)
;D
-
Wow, not bad.
Unlike so many GIs you've gone through the ordeal of learning German (which is not an easy language).
Let me know whewn you will be here in December and we will arrange a meeting. Thanks for your offer, I'll gladly take you up on it.
Most certainly that's going to be a load of the new Cody figures...
-
(dude, if you go to Germany, I'm sending a *shopping list*!!!)
;D
i've been ,spent a month in koblenz in the westphalen beautiful country and i can speak german (passable...just!) the 2 phrases most non german speaking people need is....ich verstaer nicht and ....sprechzen sie langsam bitte cmdr kurgen ..wie geht es dir?
-
I'm doing well mate.
Koblenz is about 40 minutes away from my place so if you're in the 'hood again, let me know so we can arrange a gettogether.
-
took the colne-dusseldorf ferry up the rhine and the scenery was breathtaking, you live in a beautiful country volker
-
Nice work you've done so far. I'm Dan, by the way.
-
Commander,
Love the customs, the 175th Special Operations Group are really superb.
You seem to have mastered the art of dry brushing, not too much, not too little and it's great to see your little ones being let loose on the customs as well.
Now, when do we see more!
J
-
Thanks for the praise.
I've talked to a friend of mine who is a professional painter of historical miniatures. He suggested that I should use a soft flat hair brush (and bin that old bristle brush I've been using) for drybrushing to eliminate the brush marks which show so obviously in the closeup photos.
I'm working on several customs right now.
You'll soon meet Sergeant Major Grizz of the 175th, Field Agent Cilia Vereen, Captain Jaller Obrim (Coruscant Security Forces) and some characters who have not been named yet.
Stay tuned...
-
I'll be looking forward to it, Volker!
-
You'll be able to recognize some of your custom resin casts in them, too...
-
Sweet, bring em on Volker.
-
Oh, now I am curious!
-
looking forward to seeing them volker
-
I know, I’ve kept you waiting, but work has been taking its toll on my spare time.
Anyway, here are my most recently finished custom figures:
Sergeant Crank, Reconnaissance Platoon, 175th Special Operations Group
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v468/FJR6/Star%20Wars/Crank1.jpg)
Crank is basically a repaint of the Comic Pack Commander Faie with some additional small parts from various Dragon Models 1/35 scale figure kits (like the additional pouch on his right shoulder plate and the receiver on his belt), a holster and Blaster pistol from the EE Mandalorian Dred Priest and a pulse rifle from Marauder Gun Runners.
-
I also present Field Agent Cilia Vereen, Republic Social Administration
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v468/FJR6/Star%20Wars/Cilia.jpg)
Cilia is based on the new CW Commander Gree with a repainted GI Joe ROC Scarlett head. She’s a very simple custom. I'm quite positive that I'll give her body a completely new paintjob in the near future...
Personal journal of Cilia Vereen, Field Agent, Republic Social Administration
I’ve returned from my classified mission.
With a bit of luck we will succeed in finally wrestling the planet out of the stranglehold of the Separatists.
Their society being dominated by in-fighting between the various tribes made the planet an easy target for the Seps who played out the tribes against each other.
We made contact with the local resistance cells and organized and trained them to act as guerrilla fighters.
The part of winning their hearts and minds was easy compared to getting them to put their tribal conflicts aside. For the time being it seems to work.
Teaming up with Sergeant Major Grizz of the 175th was less challenging than I thought, though. He is the senior NCO of the unit and had been detached as my Spec Ops Clone Advisor on this job.
Grizz is a very peculiar character.
Although he is of the same built and height as all the other troopers, he seems to be towering over them. He has a booming voice, piercing gaze and grizzled hair, hence his name. He is radiating competence and authority.
We have been in some scraps and I’ve never seen such a fierce man. I’ve seen him kill with absolute precision and ruthlessness and I’ve seen him kill with his bare hands and even his teeth in close quarters fighting.
As calm and friendly as he is to me, as terrifying he is in battle. Sometimes it seems that even his vode are afraid of him.
So stay tuned for Sergeant Major Grizz...
-
SWEET!! Fabulous work *and* writing!
-
awesome mate
-
great job, I've been watching one of them faie figs on e-bay waiting for a cheap one... I love that scarlett figures head on the clone. I think I've found the thing I'm going to do with mine.... ;)
-
Wow Volker! I am in love with those two figs. The woman turned out great but that Faie.......... That camp job is just stunning as are the little additions that you made.
Good job all around, buddy. I may have to put that Faie on the front page, tonight.
Still haven't seen any of my parts yet but I know that they are coming.
-
The figures really caught my eye. Great job!
-
Thanks for all the positive comments, folks.
Clint, you'll see a mixed helmet on Sergeant Major Grizz and more of your parts on other upcoming figures.
I've uploaded the first slideshow on my Star Wars customs channel on Youtube tonight, so if you want to see them and listen to some music, here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/user/CommanderKurgan
Nothing like Jay's channel, though, so don't be disappointed.
-
Sweet customs Volker. I really like the camo Crank. Awesome job. The female custom is nice too, wish they would make a female head her helmet would fit over and still allow a female looking hair job.
-
tamer have you looked at the 25th aniversary scarlet figures? I've used both the pony-tailed version and the bunned versions and helmets fit well over both. they arn't hard to adapt to star wars fig's either. I believe doc has at least one of these versions in the process of being cast.
-
Cool paint job on that Clone!
That's all I've ever found the animated clones to be useful for are customs of female troopers.
-
Well, they are also useful for my son to practice painting techniques.
Sean wanted to try his hand on a Clone with a camo paint job tonight and broke out a CW trooper figure which has been painted over about four times now. We added a CW Cody head and a CW Cody helmet as well as a blater pack on his right shoulder plate and a belt pouch.
He did the basecoat of slate grey and the first set of camo dots. Then patience desterted my young Padawan and he pursued other meaningful occupations such as watching a TV report on the world's most dangerous water rides, leaving me to finish the job.
Here's the photo story of Sean's figure, Trooper Spotter:

-
tell that guy his paint scheme rocks. I don't trust my kids with paint... lol they are little hethens. a few months ago my youngest tried to super glue something he'd broken back together and wound up gluing his fingers together as well as his eyelid shut.... THAT was fun.
-
Gotta love an ARF in flecktarn! *I* have trouble finishing camo projects like that. ;D
-
I know Sean doesn't yet have the patience to do a camo scheme, but if he wants to try it, I let him do it (when I'm around).
At least he's been slapping on the basecoat of slate grey over his previous paintjob and did the first run of camo dots on the upper armor.
The camo scheme started looking like Flecktarn only when the brown dots joined the sand-yellow and green dots. Sand-yellow and green looks like the old SS pea-camo pattern and I didn't want that on a figure.
If you're using superglue, contact the manufacturer for their "debonder". This stuff is very helpful when you superglue stuff to yourself or your fingers together. It saves you the trouble of using a scalpel or seeing your doc.
-
nice figure Volker.
-
Awesome work on all of these customs. I think that it's great that your children are joining in on the customizing fun.
Great style on everything ya'll have made.
-
Nice work by the whole family. I have trouble keeping on task too, and a base coat might be farther than I get in one session.
I like the camo look and the weathering sets it off IMO.
Great job.
-
yep, that one looks cool also, Volker. You will have to tell the boy good job!
-
I went back and looked - I see what you mean about the 1944 Pea-camo. I don't think any of us here in the States even associate the pattern with the SS. Well, barring the old guys whose lives depended on SHOOTING that particular camo - and even then, I think it is just a matter - for most - of, "oh, enemy uniform." I prefer the "Oak B" pattern, personally - seems to work quite well in my area. ;D
-
Friends, prepare to meet Sergeant Major Grizz, 175th Special Operations Group:
Grizz is based on a Commander Cody body and head. He has the pistol rig of EVO Jango Fett, a pulse rifle from Marauder Gun Runners and a mixed helmet made up from Clonehead resin parts. Weathering on his armor is kept to a minimum this time as he's back on Coruscant getting ready for a new mission.
-
Oh yeah! That's what I'm talking about. I see you got the helmet pieces together alright. That camo job is just special.
Well done, buddy!
-
Ok, the entire population of Outland Station has declared a Day Of Awe. That, sir, is incredible.
-
that is seriously wicked volker!
-
Thank you all.
Encouragement from you Major League Customizers really means a lot.
I've uploaded another slideshow which you can view here: http://www.youtube.com/user/CommanderKurgan
-
that is an amazing piece. My hands would never stay steady enough to paint such an awesome camo job... might be able to get my wife to do it though! ;) lol. I LOVE that helmet. looks awesome all around. the jango pack looks great too. Don't happen to want to get rid of the jango fig it came off of would ya? ;) lol
-
In fact, I have two EVO Jangos without the pistol rig I could get your way.
PM me if you need them.
-
that is a very cool figure.
-
Hey Volker, did you ever find my non star wars customs thread? here, (http://www.imperialshipyards.net/SMF/index.php?topic=492.15) on page 2, you will find pics of a couple of ww2 model projects that i did.
-
Sweet figure Volker, I really like how it looks. I think I might paint that pistol holster and belt that grey or black color from your killer camo paint job. I think this guy needs to have all shades of white, grey, and black imo. Still, just an awesome unit.
-
Excellent camo paint jobs. That Grizz guy is looking really nice!
-
Very cool custom. Excellent work . All of your modifications turned into one wicked sweet figure.
-
Commander,
I'm having trouble believing that this last custom is a small figure and not one of the larger scale ones! I keep certain reference images of customs for inspiration, this has just gone into my library, it's a wonderful piece of micro detailing.
J

impressive ...most..impressive
-
Here's a picture of tonight's test-fitting of my most recent project.
Stay tuned for the biggest badass Mandalorian ever.
-
YAY MANDOS! lol i love my mandos. I've got a wip mando on the table right now, completely based on a joe character it's going to have full articulation and completely removable armor... man that reminds me I've got to see if clint has ever casted the removable jango gauntlets....
-
Cool wip, Volker! I too am really partial to mando customs.
-
Oh snap, is that shaping up to be a Kal Skirata? The Rahm Kota (I think that's who it is) head always seemed like it'd be a good skirata head... skirata's definitely one of my favorite mandos, so if it's not him you should make him next!
-
Nope, this one is not going to be Kal'buir.
But rest assured, I'll make a Kal Skirata, too.
I might save the Rahm Kota head for him and use a younger headsculpt for my current project.
-
Good stuff, can't wait to see skirata! I've always laughed at how the one good depiction of him out there totally looks like Ed Harris.
-
Is there a headsculpt which looks like Es Harris?
-
Not in 1:18 yet. In 1:6, yes. I disagree with making Kal look like Ed Harris. Totally wrong. Too young, for one thing.
-
Too young?
Don't think so, really. I'd grey him up a bit around the temples.
Actually, I was thinking about using the headsculpt of a POTF Tarkin figure.
-
I wonder why they never made any Abyss action figures?
-
Lol, I totally tried looking for some, or Apollo 13 figs, but then I didn't find any so I kept quiet, lol. Ever since I saw that pic, I've pictured Ed Harris as Kal when I read the books, I think he would totally be a good Kal if they ever made an RC movie or whatever (which they totally should!), assuming there wouldn't be a SAG / non-SAG issue there... I really hate how the Screen Actors Guild essentially keeps actors from being in any non-SAG movie... I bet the prequel movies could have had some much better castings if any actor that wanted to could be in them. No Hayden Christiansuck necessary!
-
Okay, here's the finished figure.
You will notice that not all parts made it into the final custom, but that's the way things are...
But first his background story:
Born 69 BBY, Gar Ahab was the son of A’lan Ahab and his wife Jori.
He was brought up in traditional Mandalorian fashion and worked as a mercenary and occasionally as a law enforcer throughout the galaxy. 31 BBY he was contracted by the Board of Commerce of the planet Alba-16 in the Mid Rim to protect their member companies from the organisation of the Crime Lord Spadda the Hutt.
Ahab went to work with his usual precision and ruthlessness, but was double-crossed by his employers when Spadda used huge amounts of Credits to bribe them. The situation got out of hands and peaked in a shootout during which Ahab not only killed Spadda’s favourite brother Nada and his bodyguards, but also the Chairman of the Board of Commerce. Lacking hard evidence to prove the Chairman guilty, Ahab had to leave the planet and accepted Jango Fett’s offer to work as an instructor for Commando soldiers on Kamino.
This band of Training Sergeants became known as the Cuy’val Dar (Those who no longer exist).
He proved to be a very effective instructor whose squads conducted countless successful operations during the war.
When General Arligan Zey, Director of Republic Special Forces, called for the former Cuy’val Dar to cross-train experienced Troopers for Special Operations, Ahab, now a wealthy man, answered the call and travelled to Coruscant out of a feeling of responsibility for those who he considered his boys.
Upon the cease-fire, he and most of his Commandos appeared on the casualty register as KIA during the Separatist attack on Coruscant, but rumors now have them on Mandalore hiring out as an independent mercenary unit.

-
I realy like it. I love the backstory too, always love a good backstory...
as for some details... overall the presentation is realy nice. I love the use of the tfu rahm kota. Better use for it than the original crappy piece that it was! the grenade launcher is a nice touch as well.
now I'm going to be nit-picky. Are you going to repaint him? Although the original colors of all the parts actually work very well together I do think you should have his armor colors deviate more from their original counterparts. The helmet still looks too bobaesque and the backpack is too reminescent of jango (not to mention i'm not a fan of that jetpack's colors anyhow)...
another thing I notice from these pictures is that the removable armor makes the figure look incredibly beefy in the chest and torso. His legs look out of proportion. I realy don't know what to suggest to fix it as that is a problem I personally have with all of hasbro's versions of jango and boba... One possible idea is to use the majority of the figure and splice it onto a 25th gi-joe body... But that is alot of work for a figure that is already bad-a@#!
-
Spud, I agree.
He looks very compact compared to other figures. The combination of the slip-on Jango armour and the large shoulder plates make him look like a pocket Hercules.
I'm still debating if I should repaint him or just leave him the way he is, except for the rocket pack.
As you can see, I was trying a different approach this time.
-
A little paint and you could call him Montross from the SW Bounty Hunter game...
Just about the size of him, except for height ....which is hard to change too much.
I like him, although I agree it would be even better with a little variation in color.
Real nice work.
-
Cool back story as always, Volker! The figure looks pretty sweet also. I am in love with that grenade launcher.
-
man I think some fresh paint will help the most.
as for the squati-ness of it all I realy don't know what else to do. Like I said I'm a big fan of throwing everything together on a gi-joe body.
I'm going to post a tutorial on how to do a super articulated mando with a gi-joe body base soon. The easiest part is swapping the arms out as they fit into the gi-joe torso quite well. the joe body I'll be using for mine is one of the red vipers out of the resolute 5pack
-
Looking forward to your tutorial.
Except for the new ROC Joes, they are quite hard to find in this country. Let's see what we can come up with.
I'll give the guy a fresh paintjob, though.
That will preserve his Star Wars-typical look yet give him more crispyness in the details.
-
I know several of the new roc joes would work well for this too. They have the same basic build to them too. (I forget that your on the other side of the pond!) do you do any shopping on e-bay? You can get alot of good stuff on there at reasonable prices. I usually look for big lots of loose joes that can be used as fodder! lol. of course then you run into people that don't want to ship overseas. ::)
off the top of my head I think the roc cobra diver fig would be a good base to use for this as the torso isn't overly detailed withny detailed shirt or anything. the armor will go over it anyway so it won't matter much.... I havn't looked at the neo-vipers loose yet but I am told that their armor is removable. They might be a good starting base as well...
I'll work on that tutorial sometime this week and see if it's something you might want to do with this guy or others in the future.
-
If nothing else, it's a good opportunity to try out something new and different.
You know, that's what I love about this playce: nobody keeps secrets about his work and is willing to share. You don't find that too often on other forums.
-
I figure if I share my know how, others will share theirs with me and it will become an all around learning experience. Not to mention I also like to see other people's takes on my techniques and processes.
-
That's how it works.
You know, my Scout Troop has a motto: pamwe chete.
That's Shona and means "Together only".
-
ck, did you read through my tutorial on the animated clone super articulation using clone commander parts?
it's here http://www.imperialshipyards.net/SMF/index.php?topic=1005.0 (http://www.imperialshipyards.net/SMF/index.php?topic=1005.0)
anyways, since we are discussing making a figure with the roc parts and all this is basically what I'm thinking
Take your figure that you have finished and crack open his chest area and remove the arms. Do the same thing with whatever joe you decide to use and replace the joe's arms with the rahm kota's. Then if you wanted to you could do like i did in the tutorial and replace the joe's lower legs with kota's. However, in this case I don't think it'd be best. perhaps if you found a VOTC boba his lower legs and feet would look best...
then to finish it out all you would have to do is use the hot glue treatment on kota's head socket to fit it over the joe's neck ball and add all the removable armor pieces and the belt. you should be able to remove the inside rubbery parts of the belt to fit it over the joe's waist... that is if you didn't have to do that already for puting it over kota's.
like I said, I'll post some detailed pics of the process with the figure I'm working on and let you see how I'm doing it. I just got a jango with the removable chest armor that I'm probably going to use just like yours.
-
I'll be honest, I really like the paint job. It doesn't look as overly-designed as some of them do (after all, it's armor, not a low-rider Cadillac), it looks like he'd blend into the crowd in a star wars scene a little better than having one super-consistent paint scheme. Hahaha, I thought the thing on his shoulder was supposed to be wookiee scalps that were sticking out, and I was like "hmm, that looks kinda dumb sticking out like that" until I noticed it's actually the sling for his big-ass gun! Much better now. As for his squatty-ness, I think all you'd really need to do is find a way to extend his neck upward... then he'd look way more well proportioned. Either some sculpty or a long-necked figure and an exacto-knife would work well. Great figure!
-
Hi all, thanks for your comments.
I'll give his clothing a bit of a paintjob to add more depth to the folds and get some more detail out of his armor.
My wife says he looks like an older version of me plus the goatee beard, a short, stout fellow.
Spud got me into trying to mix Star Wars with some GI Joe parts, so let's see what I'm able to come up with.
-
this is the mando i've been working on ck
(http://fc01.deviantart.com/fs24/i/2009/253/2/a/super_arty_mando_wip_3_by_SpudaFett.jpg)
there are more pics in my thread... but you can see that i've basically only replaced the arms from the elbow down on this one using a boba's gauntlets and hands. The rest is 100% joe. of course I then added the removable jango armor and jetpack. To get the pockets on the thighs I sliced them off of a jodo-kast fig's thighs and just glued them onto the joe. When it is all painted you won't be able to tell they were seperate parts (I hope!)...
-
Spud, what have you done to me!
I only started looking into GI Joe figures and got half a million ideas for custom SW figures...
-
lol I consider my mission a success! ;D
-
While Joes are rolling in, I continued on finishing the Han Solo repaint which my son started.
Sean's paintjob on the left, an original Han on the right:
The finished repaint side by side with the original:
We gave Han a jacket of Batha hide, a different shirt and boots and a bit of dirt and wear. In fact, he's a cross between Han Solo and Indiana Jones.
-
Great work, guys! Looks almost like a whole new character.
-
the weathering and repaint on the Han is great, The Mando looks very interesting and a very good blend of the 2 lines used.
-
excellent guys its a whole new smuggler!
-
Very Awesome, the mando is awesome and the Han Solo WOW, great customs
-
That new Han looks good. It is about time I fpd your new custom pages too. I will get to it this week!
-
Thanks for the vote of confidence folks.
Amazing how a bit of paint and slight weathering can change the appearance of a stock figure.
I picked up some Solos just to get the gun belt for my customs...
Just keep in mind that the super-articulated Mando in the red flightsuit is a Spudafett custom, not mine.
-
I'm sure they were commenting on your mando kurgan! ;)
That repainted han is awesome. I love the cross between indy and han that you've got going. We just watched indiana jones and the raiders of the lost ark today! lol
great stuff, you should be proud of your son! that was such a great idea.
It is truly amazing what a simple repaint can do to most stock figures, heck even vintage and potf figs if given a repaint can look amazing!
-
Oh Yeah, that Solo turned out killer, Volker! I am mad now that I let mine like that one go.
-
Is there a headsculpt which looks like Es Harris?
We could probably hound Hasbro to make the figure look like him but in the end they'd want him to look like someone on their board of directors or something!
That solo turned out very good, the brown jacket is a nice look for him!
-
I think I found a suitable head for Kal'buir.
He'll look like an actor, but not like Ed Harris.
Just hang in there untill I've got all the parts which I need for my interpretation of Kal Skirata.
I'll also present a re-launch of Gar Ahab, hopefully not looking like a pocket Hercules...
-
ooh i cant wait to See Kal i love the RC books next month is just too faraway for her new one... it a real shame she isn't doing any more
-
Ah, just wait and see if Karen is going to do more.
The RCs are just too popular to drop them.
-
i spoke to her via an email and she seemed pretty set on leaving after the 2nd IMP COM book
-
Lucas does not love Star Wars for its own sake - he'll change things in a heartbeat if he thinks he can milk more $$ out of it.
-
Love what you've done with solo commander....
-
Kurgan...You've been Hangarbay'd
(http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3495/3945089916_b929d27e1d_o.jpg)
Who will be next?
-
That's...absoposilutely majorly cool.
Thanks Jules!
-
lol this is so like where's Waldo every page i go to someone has been hangerbay'd ;D
top job again Jules you are on fire!!!
-
What an honor to be Hangarbay'd! Gorgeous customs!
Feel free to pat yourself on the back. You deserve it!
-
Alright…
Spud got me to look into GI Joe figures for Star Wars customs and I decided to re-launch my most recent Mandalorian character.
True to his backstory, it has to be a really badaxx type of guy, instant death on legs, a bad news type whom you don’t want to meet in a dark alley or on the battlefield.
An here some detail shots of the making-of this custom.
I started by taking three of the new ROC Joes apart by the method Spud described in his great video tutorial. Altogether, I needed parts from five Joes.
Let's start with the parts and test-fitting:
Here's the figure:
Rinsing the figure with warm water in preparation of the basecoat:
Understandably, I do the spraypainting outside:
-
Nice wip shots, Volker . Look at all of those parts!
-
Altogether, I needed parts from five Joes.
Here's the figure:
Taking my stab at the recipie...
Drednok Torch head (I just bought one this week!)
Cobra Eel upper torso
Heavy-Duty lower torso? (think so because I think that's the Heavy Duty grenade-launcher with no stock up there)
Heavy-Duty legs
not sure about the arms
Then there's the Jango pieces, a "Solo blaster" (DL-44) modified with what appears to be an Uzi folding stock, and a Solo? gunbelt. I think Boba donates a helmet and gauntlet?
-
And the hips are from Zartan, I think.
-
Doc, you're getting close.
You've got a really sharp eye.
Let's see:
Head: Assault on Cobra Island Outback
Upper Torso: ROC Neo Viper
Lower Torso: ROC Shipwreck
Arms: ROC Heavy Duty
Legs: ROC Snake Eyes
Helmet: EE Exclusive B'arin Apma
Beskar'gam: Jango Fett
Gauntlet: Electronic Backpack Jango Fett
Gunbelt: Milennium Falcon Han Solo (not sure if I'm going with this one or Jango's buscadero gunbelt, though...
Pistol: well recognized, Doc: BlasTech with UZI folding stock attached
Grenade Launcher: Marauder Gun runners launcher w. stock removed and shoulder sling of Battlefront II Sniper figure attached
-
AWESOME mix of parts! I'm loving it. Can't wait to see it finished. Glad I got someone else doing joe figs!
-
Told ya buddy, it's all your fault.
Thanks for getting me infected.
There's a whole new world of customs opening up.
-
Wow, that Is going to be so awesome when you're done, can't wait to see the finished mando! Crazy how many Joes that took, but I have a feeling he'll be totally worth it when he's done!
-
that is definately a combo of joe parts that I wouldn't have probably thought about using. But I'm sure that you're using what your able to get your hands on.
A little tip about joes, if you can't find the EXACT figure you need for a part look it up on "yojoe.com" and there is a section of each figure's description that breaks down what parts of what figure was used to kitbash it. Normally you can at least find one of the figures that uses the same part around... thank hasbro for that.... lol
-
Thanks for the link, Spud.
I'll look it up for sure.
-
hey ck.. I was just thinking about your figure. did you say you had a couple diver figures as well? they have realy neat looking gauntlets already on their arms... with a couple greeblies glued on they'd look like great mando gauntlets and yet not be the overused boba or jango gauntlets.
-
Nope, no diver figures over here.
I managed to occupy some table space for our workstation tonight and continued with the figure:
-
Oh yeah, Volker, it's coming along nicely.
-
lookin good ck
-
Looking great, man.
I thought that head was either monkeywrench or outback, they might be the same, I'm not as into details recently, :)
I'm gonna have to watch spuda's video, I've never been able to disassemble joes.
-
Oooh, this is looking gooood!
-
Yeah, I realized it wasn't Torch later. I knew I'd seen the head *in my hands* this past week, so it must look like Monkey Wrench - and MW and Outback might use the same head-mold. Really well-balanced look - kinda tickled me that the parts I called Heavy Duty *weren't* and the parts I called otherwise *were* from HD. Too funny.
-
hey... nail down which head that is, I realy wanna know.
I saw someone els's custom version of chuck noriss the other day... adn thought I might do one myself, That head would be perfect I think...
-
The head is Outback, but I think they use a repaint with brown hair and beard and red bandanna on Monkey Wrench.
Side note: the Mandalorian helmet fits...I'd have to check if Clint's resin cast and the other Jango and Boba helmets fit, too.
I'll let you know later tonight.
-
awesome, about the helmets... man i can't see this one finished.
and the head... definately got my wheels turning. lol of course now if you don't repaint that red hair I'm going to see your figure as "chuck noris mando"... ::)
-
Oh Spud, since I'm a fan of Chuck's, that's what came to my mind, too.
I gave the Outback head a bit of an inkwash and a drybrush yesterday.
BTW: Chuck is a nice guy. I took part in one of his Tang Soo Do seminars back in the 90s and found him to be an easygoing, friendly genuinely approachable guy.
-
Okay, here he is: Gar Ahab reloaded

-
Nice figure! Great work on it.
-
that... looks... AWESOME!!!!
I'm very impressed! Only one suggestion... the armor needs to be given more silver. It blends too much with the under-garments (for lack of a better term). You should give the armor on all parts of him, both the removable jango armor, and all the little arm parts and the stomach parts the same colors. Maybe something to match the helmet.
other than that.. AWESOME mix of parts. Looks great. this is your first "true" use of joe parts for star wars isn't it? Great job. I can't tell you how much I like this.
I'm probably going to buy up some of the "reactive armor" figs and do some more mandos. I've got to get some more helmets though.
-
Volker, that is just awesome sir! Very nice detail work on this fig. Your getting better at this.
-
Fantastic work, man, really far out.
I love the idea of a chuck mando, this guy looks like he'd be at home on any battlefield.
-
Holy crap, that Gar Ahab figure is PIMP! Great job! Is he a Cuy V'al Dar (or however you spell that) who trains clones, or just a standard bada$$ mando?
-
mate thats is a sweet custom...posted a comment on You tube too and faved, he would look Great on my mando'a shelf!!! i have a few left over mando's from the EE exclusive packs, i might have to dig em out abd see what ideas i can come up with ;D
-
I've modified his backstory somewhat so it fits the reloaded character better:
Born 69 BBY, Gar Ahab was the son of A’lan Ahab and his wife Jori.
He was brought up in traditional Mandalorian fashion by his parents. As a boy he learned the Echani martial arts from his father as well as Teräs Käsi from his mother which he adapted, combining elements from both arts with the dirty tricks of barroom brawling and street fighting into his personal style of unarmed combat. Gar also became a skilled gunfighter.
He worked as a mercenary and occasionally as a law enforcer throughout the galaxy.
Pirates and outlaws usually found out the hard way that something really bad had moved into their backyards and neighbourhoods. Often enough the blaze from the muzzle of a blaster and the view of the dark visor of a Mandalorian helmet were the last thing they saw.
Contrary to popular belief and unlike other hired muscle-types, Ahab embodied the principles of the Mandalorian mercenary and remained faithful to his contracts, refusing bribe credits or the temptation of Fri’lek slave girls.
In 31 BBY when he was contracted by the Board of Commerce of the planet Alba-16 in the Mid Rim to protect their member companies from the organisation of the Crime Lord Spadda the Hutt.
Ahab went to work with his usual precision and ruthlessness, but was double-crossed by his employers when Spadda used huge amounts to bribe them. The situation got out of hands and peaked in a shootout during which Ahab not only killed Spadda’s favourite brother Nada and his bodyguards, but also the Chairman of the Board of Commerce.
Unfortunately, hard evidence to prove the Chairman guilty of treason was lacking , so Ahab had to leave the planet and accepted Jango Fett’s offer to work as an instructor for Commando soldiers on Kamino.
This band of Training Sergeants became known as the Cuy’val Dar (Those who no longer exist).
He proved to be a very effective instructor whose squads later conducted countless successful operations during the war.
During his time on Kamino he exchanged the marriage vow with fellow Cuy’val Dar Lanna Badoor who around the time of the Battle of Geonosis gave birth to their son Mede.
When Jedi General Arligan Zey, Director of Republic Special Forces, called to the former Cuy’val Dar to cross-train experienced Troopers for Special Operations, Ahab, now a wealthy man, answered the call and travelled to Coruscant out of a feeling of responsibility for those who he considered his boys.
Upon the cease-fire, he and most of his Commandos appeared on the casualty register as KIA during the Separatist attack on Coruscant, but rumours now have them on Mandalore hiring out as an independent mercenary unit.

awesome back story Vod sounds to me they live close to or in Kyrimorut tell him to say Hi to Kal for me LOL
-
Thanks ner vod.
That's how I envisioned the current situation.
In "Order66" Karen describes how the former Cuy'val Dar appear at Arca Barracks alone or in twos to come to support their former students and how they made bug-out plans for their boys.
I see you know the RC novels well.
-
oh yeah!! I've read them all twice so far and i am thinking on reading them again before the next book comes out, i lent them to a good friend of mine and he absolutely loves them now!! he even went out and got the EE exclusive figure packs..

Ahab embodied the principles of the Mandalorian mercenary and remained faithful to his contracts, refusing bribe credits or the temptation of Fri’lek slave girls.
LMAO.... great line...
great figure too. I realy love it.
-
Out-kriffing-standing!!!
-
Kurgan, you asked for it, you got it!
You've been "Quantum Hangarbay'd" Dude!
(Guys enough now, the Hangarbay is tired and he needs his beauty sleep....no more requests, you will have to wait and see who's next...remember, you'll only get Hangarbay'd in the Yards).

Commander Kurgan I have seen your customs before and they are very impressive. I really like this last Mando with the use of the new Joe fodder you have really stepped up the articulation. Nice paint scheme and aps. he looks like one kick ass mando.
-
What!! What happens!! Who is it!!! What is it??? your such a tease Jules... ;)
Alright HB94 you have out done yourself now... you have opened a whole new can of worms!!!
Great stuff buddy!!!
-
Nice one, Jules! Volker's figure looks great in that setting.
-
I'm in love with the figure, head to toe, 1st and foremost., but are you finished with this one?
I ask, because the helmet(and you may have mentioned this, and I may have missed it.... If so, disregard this next part) seems to not match the armor. Again, I apologize if you mentioned that you still had some more work to do on the helmet.
Otherwise, phenomenal effort on this Mando.
Also, where did you get that weapon? I ask, because the carbine(?) seems thicker than Hasbro's version, and it reminds me of a certain someone's custom weapons.
Again, if I'm off in this post, I certainly mean no disrespect; I assure you.
-
thats excellent volker ! lovin the mando
-
Jules, I did never expect anything like that.
Bloody amazing.
Thanks a bunch and I agree, you've taken Hangarbaying to even more magnificient levels.
-
r1bbit, the helmet mirrors the colours of the trousers and boots. I just gave the stock helmet a slight drybrush which doesn't show too well in the photographs.
I'll see if I can take some more detailed shots later.
The carbine is an ARC Trooper rifle on which I cut off the stock and glued the stock of a GI Joe Heavy Duty grenade launcher. The end of the shoulder sling was then re-attached to the new stock. If you like, I'll try to take a good pic of the carbine, too.
-
Jules that is outstanding, talk about kicking it up a notch.
Volker, I am loving that Mando myself. Can't wait to see more of these.
-
HOLY COW, YOU HAVE BEEN HANGERBAYED! Jules, I say you are too much and you do something like this. Now I want to see what is on the other side of that door! This one is phenomenal...
-
First, Kurgan that is one awesome mando!! I love the RC novels and am waiting to pick up the Order 66 book here soon. As to Jules HBing your fig... great work!! I'm sure Jules is tired after working on it =)
Love it all!
-
What, you haven't read Order66 yet?
I'm not going to spoil your read here, just telling you that you won't be disappointed.
It's a great wrapup of the Clone Wars, but Karen left herself enough opportunities for at least half a dozen novels picking up the semi-loose ends.
I've picked one small detail in Order66 up for my Cuy'val Dar, the note that General Zey issued a call to the further Cuy'val Dar to come to Coruscant and train able White Jobs to become Commandos.
-
the detailed backgrounds to write for all of your customs are superb. Nothing beats a nice custom with a great story to go with and flesh the characters/teams/locations out. I love it, all of it
-
Okay, it's been a while since I had time to work on a figure, but here's the new guy: Ordo Skirata in Beskar'gam.
You will easily eacognize that he is based on the upper torso and arms of the EVO Jango Fett, the lower torso of a GI Joe ROC Snake Eyes and the legs of a GI Joe ROC Heavy Duty.
Test fitting:

Fitted and assembled:
More to come soon...
-
It's G.I. Jango!, great stuf man can't wait to see the finished product
-
dang, you beat me to it... I've been waiting to get a new style evo jango and boba to do exactly that modification
did you just graft them together like normal (like in my tutorial) or did you adjust the lower joe torso to make it fit? does he still have the jointed chest/gut?
-
The Joe joint pin fits the Jango torso nicely.
I shortened the Snake Eyes abdomen a bit and glued the pin onto it so I could keep the joint functional.
Had I wanted to drop that joint, I simply could have glued torso and abdomen together, too.
-
hmm so you did trim the torso to make it fit better... hmm I was hoping you wouldn't have to do that.
I hope I come across the new wave of figs and get an evo style boba to try this...
-
IMO you have to shorten the abdomen (make a four-pack out of the six-pack) because otherwise the upper body will sit way too high and the figure looks out of proportion.
You could dremel out the upper body, though, and fit it over the abdomen instead of on top of it.
This might give the appearance of armor worn over a flightsuit.
-
hmm I wonder if you used a cobra comander or another of the lower torso joint figures if they would fit better iwthout the adjusting? That's probably what I'll try...
-
That's quite possible.
Go ahead and try it with other parts and we can compare pics side by side.
-
cant wait to see how this turns out, ;D
-
CK,
I love the latest custom, you have got a great combo there...I'm looking forward to seeing how it comes on.
-
Okay, here we go.
I didn't end up using the legs I started with as, of course, the softgoods kama would hide the dropleg holster on his right thigh.
So I used a different pair of legs and a separate gun belt.
I'll do some touchups later tonight and the clear varnish tomorrow when the paint is thoroughly dry.
-
Very nice, I do love Mando customs
-
Very nice looking mando! I love the soft goods kama you used.
-
Yes! That looks hella cool, Volker. I love the kama. where did that belt come from?
This looks like a front pager for sure!
-
Front Page?
Wow, I didn't expect that.
The gun belt is from a Terminator series John Connor figure. They were marked down at the TRU so I couldn't resist as I liked the gunbelt...
-
lol its nice to get fodder on sale.
looks good ck. I realy love the look of that removable armor over the joe figures! i realy need to figure out a good way to cast that up, it's on my to do list of items to make resin dupes of....
as for the helmet... unless your trying to be reminescent of jango I would have used a different accent color other than blue, or done the helmet in a different pattern... BUT either way the custom looks great! what does the head underneath the helmet and the body beneath the armor look like?!
-
I knew you'd be asking about the head, Spud.
It's an EVO Jango head which -surprise, surprise- fits beautifully on the EVO Jango upper body.
So this time the armor is molded with the torso, not a separate piece.
I wanted this figure to portray Ordo Skirata post-(Clone)War so I went for the classic Jango basic look. I thought about accenting him in red, but the black/red combo has been flogged to death on my 175th SOG customs so I chose blue.
-
my bad... I should have paid more attention! I should have realized that wasn't the removable armor and it was that jango piece! ::) put an L on my forehead....
it still looks great!
-
I love Karen Traviss' books, love the Mando lore and culture and what she brought to the SW universe.. with that, I had to say thank you for bringing some of those characters into figure form... I don't do many custom figures now-a-days.. mainly cause as soon as I get 90% done, Hasbro releases it, lol.. but one group I really want to make and plan on are the characters in her books.. I was about to say "main" characters, but to be honest, they're all "main" in my eyes... Thanks again and keep up the awesome... I mean Kandosii'customs!
-
The paintjob on your figures is best I've ever seen
absolutely amazing
-
Thanks for the praise, but check out Clonehead, Wraithnine and the other guys who do real killer paintjobs which mine will never match.
-
Kurgan, you sell yourself WAY too short! Your customs are every bit on par as everyone else on these Forums!
-
Never say Never, Volker. You have shown us some great stuff and the customs board wouldn't be the same without your beauties gracing it. Keep making those customs dude. I am ready to see the next of your creations.
-
Will do, Clint.
With a bit of luck I'll have time to paint up my next figure on Saturday.
I'll keep 'em coming!
-
cool mando.
-
Cool mando, did this one get fp coverage? If not, it will!
-
Yep, it's already fp'd.
-
Yep, it's already fp'd.
Cool deal, just wanted to make sure. I hope you also got my note about your great cody review. Thanks to yours and other Yarders great work, we have added a fp section for said reviews. Don't mean to jack your thread by the way.
-
No prob, Shawn.
This thread is open for discussions and news, of course.
Not just a showcase of my vanity...
-
nice customs. vadsab

Here are some WIP pics of current projects.
The GI Joe fans among you will notice that I've sacrificed an (allegedly ultra-rare) black City Strike Snake Eyes for one of them.

Nice wip pics, Volker! I see that veers/mando mix helmet there. Let's get a better shot of it, if you
Would.
-
;D yay. can't wait to see the end results.
-
awesome
the next great customs, can't wait to see the final result
-
Looking good!
-
Looks cool
-
Those are looking pretty awesome, I got a couple planned just like that using the Joe bodies, can't wait to see what yours look like.
-
can't wait to see the final! I didn't know that snake eyes was rare my store has like 3 or 4 of them. I'll have to pick one or two of them up.
-
can't wait to see the final! I didn't know that snake eyes was rare my store has like 3 or 4 of them. I'll have to pick one or two of them up.
The Gray single packed one was "sought after", not really rare as they've been showing up at Walmarts for $5 recently... the black one he's using is the same mold, but a diff head from the Target exclusive 4pack... ;)
-
Hey, if you guys could get me some of those 5 Dollar City Strike Snake Eyes, that would be cool.
From what I hear they are not available in every store so that's probably why they are being called rare.
-
I'll keep a look out for them for you.
-
You have awesome customs dude
-
Excellent figures mate i really love all the mando variations you have done.
Ron
-
Since this is technically going to be Kurgan's figure... I'm posting it here for him.
this is going to be his secret santa gift.... unfourtunately I am a little late on christmas! (it's his fault for wanting me to send him so much stuff! I havn't gotten it all together yet... and since he wound up being my SS recipient I figured I'd be sending this along with it...)
oh... and don't worry CK, Im still going to put in a few surprises for you so don't think I'm ruining all the surprise!
anyway, This is a figure I worked on for the last few and I am realy happy with it, and I hope you like him CK.

:
well, I know he's not in your possession yet, but I hope you like him. If not... well... I guess you can tell me to find you something else! :P lol
-
Never ever!
That's a really cool figure, Devin. Well worth the wait!
Thanks a million!
-
And now for something completely different:
Meet Hondo Marne, Coruscant's leading Private Investigator:
Hondo is a kitbash made up from three different GI Joe figures with a head from a Golden Compass figure.
Paint apps are mostly original to the parts, just minimal touchups here and there.
I wanted to try to stay as original as possible on this guy.
-
That is a nice looking Mando, Devin! Volker, I am really liking your new figure, also.
-
Good looking Mando gift. I like the PI too Volker.
-
wow police dude looks uber coooololl lol the paint apps on the mando blinded me seriously but the eyes came bak and wen i saw the pi they went bad again see look dhgghdhbhnhjggvjjgjfjkkkkkkkkkkkkk yakface thers a link lololololol:p
-
Commander Kurgan that is a great looking kit bash! I love that most of the parts are original and unaltered. Any time you can achieve that through kit bashing is a triumph...
I hope to have your package ready within the week so that you'll have some more figs to work with.
-
Spuda? A mando? I'm shocked, ;)
I like the PI, I think it works well.
-
I am liking that PI figure, the Mandos are good (but to me just being honest they seem to becoming the next clone fad, I like the individual figures you do best).
-
Love the p.i hes amazing I still cant kit bash right so you can guess I have a lot of fodder. hehe
-
Spud really went the extra mile with his SS gift.
I'm really excited about this creation.
Thanks for your comments on my PI. He'll soon be joined by his female companion...
-
ooo... a female companion... looking forward to that.
-
Kurgan the only thing your P.I. is missing is a fedora, then it would set it off......... well imo, lol.
Oh and I can't wait for the companion.
-
Love the color on the mando
-
Both the Mando and PI are excellent.
Ron
-
That PI is awesome! I love that he looks like Daniel Craig. Trully original and awesome work! Can't wait to see his fem companion.
-
Yeah, I had a couple of heads to choose from, but I thought that the Daniel Craig sculpt would go best with the character.
-
Now that the voting for the custom contest is over, I can unveil my entry:
Sergeant Kal Skirata, Cuy'val Dar, on the balcony of the safehouse on Coruscant
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v468/FJR6/Star%20Wars/Kal1.jpg)
-
this Kal Skirata is incredible! Way to go!
-
Very nice, I like the head and the Joe parts combo.
-
Volker, I love this figure! The slight weathering effect is convincing, especially on his pants.
-
Of course you know I'm going to love this figure! The joe parts look fantastic. I love those legs for mando customs. The wild bill torso is also a favorite of mine. The arms are from a neo-viper correct?
Then you put the removable chest armor over the figure right? You didn't try to use the upper torso of one of the new jango or bobas?
The subtle weathering on the legs is awesome. The colors on the armor and everything else bring it together very nicely!
-
Thanks, people.
The arms are from an Ice Viper. I like the shoulder armor, the gadget boxes on the upper arms and the forearm armor. If you look closely, there's amazing detail on the gloves as well. These arms are unusually well detailed.
I used the head from an Altitude/Red Star/Ripcord figure and repainted the dark blonde hair to reflect Skiratat's age.
I like the slightly bulkier look of the slip-on armor so I chose that over a Joe torso instead of using a Jango or Boba upper body.
-
Excellent custom Commander Kurgan
The weathering is perfect. I hope we will see a lot more custom stuff from you in the future.
-
Looks great, definitely how I pictured Kal.
-
I hope we will see a lot more custom stuff from you in the future.
You will.
I have several other figures in the pipeline, so stay tuned.
-
CK,
Fantastic custom, I love the parts choice and the colour scheme. Also the subtle weathering is superb.
Keep em coming!
-
Love it!!nice mando
-
Excellent work, Kurgan! When I saw this image, the first thing I though of was of him on the balcony of the safehouse, and you captured that nicely!
-
Great custom Skirata Kurgan!!!
-
Excellent work, Kurgan! When I saw this image, the first thing I though of was of him on the balcony of the safehouse, and you captured that nicely!
As soon as a suitable female head has been obtained, he'll be joined by Besany Wennen so they can show each other the holographs of their fathers.
-
Okay, I finally built me a showcase on the internet: http://kurganscustoms.blogspot.com
I'll also add youtube videos which you may or may not find useful like Spudafett's splicing tutorials or Jules and Jay's clips.
Check in now and then and have a look.
-
Looks good, I like the page.
-
Thanks Wayne.
Of course, I'll continue to show my customs here at the Yards first. After all, this is what I call home for customizing.
-
nice mate
-
Good job!
-
great looking site CK, i'm not part of best on the internet? :(........ joking.... ;D
-
Looks good Volker! Thanks for the kudos.
-
nice customs!

that looks wicked volker
-
looks nice! ;D
-
Looks very cool and I like the goggles on the helmet.
-
Nice mi with the mandohelmet, Volker! I like him.
-
Very nice!
-
excellent custom Volker
great job
-
Thanks people.
Except for the helmet, he's more or less just a kitbash/repaint.
The pistol holster and knife sheath are functional so he can draw his blaster and pull his knife for close quarters.
The helmet, obviously, is a combo of a Clonehead-produced Veers helmet and a Hasbro Jango Fett helmet faceplate and rangefinder.
-
looks good Volker. On the front page.
-
Wow, I didn't expect that.
Thanks a lot!
-
WOW!!
I don't think I could put into words how I feel about your customs!!!
They are great!!! From the camo to the colors just Great!!!
keep up the great work!!
Can't wait to see more!!
Rich
-
Okay, this is - obviously - no Star Wars figure, but I had a spare Jango head and I think it looks very cool on this Joe.
He belongs to my Team Tango - Codename: Hunter:
Some of my other custom Joes can be found in my Imperial Blog thread or here: www.kurganscustoms.blogspot.com
-
OOOOOOOOoh, he looks tough.
-
Lookin' Good CK!
-
really nice! ;D ;D
-
All I did basically, was to swap heads on this figure. I thought that the Duke headsculpt looked too much Mr. Nice Guy. Jango looks really badass, even without Mando armor.
I really love this headsculpt. Another guy from Team Delta got the compic pack Commander Faie head which in my book also is a very cool sculpt.
-
nice customs volker!
-
awesome looking figure Volker
very detailed
10/10
-
looks to me like he would fit into any verse you wanted him in! On the front page.
-
Woah, Frontpage!
Now that you say it, Hunter could be used as a bounty hunter, smuggler, agent, enforcer or something else with just little modification (like taking off the hand grenade from his vest).
I'll take a pic with him wearing his helmet which I think is a nice little bit of kit, too.
-
Sergeant Quv Banner of Sarlacc Squad, Alliance Commando Brigade
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v468/FJR6/Commando1.jpg)
-
awesome volker!
-
really great custom!
-
This is great, I was just holding Sargent Stalker yesterday thinking he could make a great Endor Rebel or something along those lines and you have done it. Nice job, I like it.
-
AWESOME!
-Jack
-
Thanks people!
I might swap the head for a vintage Joe Rock'n Roll head as this sculpt looks a bit like a young Fuzzy Q. Jones (for those of you who remember those OLD western movies).
The figure is basially a kitbash of various Joe figures and the SW Endor Commando.
I think the mixture of two camo schemes, the open jacket, the bearded head and the helmet with dangling chinstraps gives an overall Rebel-like, scruffy and badaxx appearance.
I have more Rebel Commando parts in my parts box so there's a good chance that you'll see the complete Sarlacc Squad sometime soon.
-
That one turned out sharp, Volker! I like custom rebels. I do believe I will be able to mold that helmet with a little work. Was that the one you were talking about?
-
Yes, that's the one.
The chinstraps and the cheekpads of the liner might be a little hard to do, but the helmet itself would be cool as a resin part.
I think the camo clothing and the helmet are the trademarks of the Alliance Commandos so they should be part of a custom commando, too.
-
coooool custom!!
-

Man, them are some great customs
-
Kurgan, again I love these. So simple but so good. I love the Rebel Joes you have made.
-
Great looking figures and even greater use of parts.
Ron
-
they re awesome man!
-
Man those are great keep up the good work!!
-
I am really liking these Commandos. They look better than the new one Hasbro has coming out imo. On the front page.
-
Wow, I didn't expect that.
Thanks for the honour!
-
hey volker, great set of joe-rebels!
Am I spying the new resolute scarlett head on that one? It's a little oversized compared to the old head isn't it? Hmm.... I think I'll probably be swapping her heads out when I get ahold of that pack (speaking of which are they already in stores over there? I've yet to see a single new joe or SW fig yet!)
-
Good job, I love joe crossovers.
-

Buddy, I picked the Resolute Scarlett up on Ebay from one of the Chinese sellers. Her headsculpt is not as petite as previous Scarletts and I rather like the non-dollface appearance of this head. After all, not all the girls out there are beauty queens.
Over here, we will probably not get the new Joes at all unless they make a new major movie.
Since TCW is on TV, we do get the new Star Wars figures, although the best chance to get them at a halfways decent price would be TRU.
-
The rebels rock. I was going through your customs the other day and you have some great ones!!!
-
Those commandos rock, great work!

looks simply awesome!
-
Thanks to Clonehead for sending me some custom material. Some parts went into this figure which I kitbashed yesterday: a GI Joe Resolute Stuart "Outback" Selkirk.
Outback is one, if not my most, favorite Joe and I had to make him look more badass.
Other parts are going into my recent Star Wars custom figure project, a Sector Ranger, unsung hero of galactic law enforcement.
Stay tuned for the Ranger, but for the time being enjoy Outback:

Nice fig, Commander! What all did you have to do to him?
-
looks cool bbfet
-
Nice fig, Commander! What all did you have to do to him?
Thanks Doc.
In effect, he's just a kitbash.
The main figure is a Resolute Duke straight out of the blister. I removed the non-working holster on his left thing, though and put a double magazine pouch there. Since most people are right handed, I gave him a tactical holster on the right thigh.
Here's the complete receipe:
Basic figure - Resolute Duke
head - 25th Outback
tac vest - POC Beachhead
scarf - POC Dusty cape fabric
shotgun - BBI Navy SEAL
HK MP7 - POC Beachhead
pistol - some ROC figure
tac holster - some BBI figure
leg ammo pouches - some BBI figure
knife on shoulder sheath - Resolute Duke
knife on back sheath - POC Beachhead
-
That's one serious kitbash, V! Very nice work on him. Any suggestions or warnings/trouble-spots on the ROC/POC figs for those of us looking at following down that path?
-
I love the ROC/POC figures.
They are nicely sculpted, come with tons of accessories (which is always a plus) and are great for custom work.
Here's my POC Desert Battle Outback based on the new Dusty figure:

looks really really cool man!
-
I'm also planning a Rebel Alliance Commando equipped for a desert raid based on the Dusty figure.
-
great idea, that would be really nice to see!
-
looks very cool mate
-
Cool custom! Only I don't think that's a shotgun bro. It looks like a 300 Winmag bolt-action sniper rifle. That's what the Marine Corps uses. Keep up the good work.
-
Looks great, you did great work with all the different parts.
Ron

Of course, the Desert Battle Outback does not hold a shotgun.
The receipe above referred to my presentation on the previous page of this thread:
Thanks to Clonehead for sending me some custom material. Some parts went into this figure which I kitbashed yesterday: a GI Joe Resolute Stuart "Outback" Selkirk.
Outback is one, if not my most, favorite Joe and I had to make him look more badass.
Other parts are going into my recent Star Wars custom figure project, a Sector Ranger, unsung hero of galactic law enforcement.
Stay tuned for the Ranger, but for the time being enjoy Outback:

Okay, here's the finished figure. Enjoy:

Former Jedi Master Krav Azar was or is a Grey Jedi who had left the Jedi Order because he could not support the Jedi Code any longer and followed his own ways of exploring both the Light side and the Dark side of the Force.
After the Battle of Geonosis he returned to Coruscant, offering his service to the Order for the times of need.
This appearance before the High Council caused some uneasiness with the Council Members as they could not sense him or his motives in the Force and were surprised by the sheer power radiated by the Grey Jedi after Master Azar dropped his Force-driven shielding for a moment to let the Jedi try to explore him.
Grand Master Yoda who had known Master Azar when he was a Jedi was most surprised to see that Azar had barely aged since they had met face to face decades ago and rejected his offer of support as he felt he could not trust nor control him enough.
Krav Azar vanished after this episode, only rumors spoke of rogue Jedi activities not sanctioned by the High Council during the Clone Wars.
Due to his Force abilities, Master Azar survived the Jedi Purge, disappearing completely until becoming an instructor for the Imperial Knights.
He trained Treis Sinde to Knighthood and passed on much of his ways on to him.
After Sinde became a Master himself, Azar retired and has not been seen again since then.

Great custom!!

Rich
-
Nice custom man!
-
Great story. Great custom. Get ready for the front page. Good to see you back Volker.
-
top notch figure !! very well done, and its cool to read a story about him.
great.
-
Great story on him. awsome work on the jedi .
-
great peice of work there !!
-
Wow, Front Page!
Thanks for the praise people.
I've thought about writing some fan fiction about Master Azar, but wasn't sure if I'd have the time to do more than some incoherent scenes. After all, you'll probably want to read complete stories and not just a scene or two.
If you want, though, I'll give you the High Council scene as a teaser.
-
Lovely custom, Volker. Quite worthy of your collection.
-
Seems like I've been doing quite a bit of minor customizing for my son lately...
Today I received some GI Joe wave 3 POC Duke figures in the mail. Duke comes with some sort of heavy rocket launcher/double quad cannon backpack. When I first saw the accessory, I thought it would make a cool weapon for a heavy Clone or Imperial trooper and when Sean got his AT-AT Snowtrooper squad, we decided to see how we could rig the beast on one of his troopers.
It was fairly easy, because I wanted to keep it playable.
The back peg for the cannon had to go and since the shoulder braces of the cannon fit right onto the Snowtrooper backpack, a bit of superglue joined the cannon's pack and the Snowtrooper pack together. The whole construction still can be pegged in and taken out of the Snowtrooper's back, the two cannons can be swung up and back and rest on the shoulders of the trooper in the firing position.
I superglued the eight barrels in place, because they came somewhat loosely pegged in.
Surprisingly enough, the figure doesn't need a stand, it is very well balanced when wearing the double quad cannon pack.
Okay, enough talk, here's the finished Heavy Gunner:

I think I'll make me one, too...
-
hell yeah man, awesome!
-
talk about packin heat lol
-
a fine addition to fine figure very creative
-
now that is a beast ! F@8= at at's this is the bomb
-
Sweet mother of pearl...what a pop gun!
-
Yeah.
Now you know what they mean when they call somebody a son of a gun...
This thing could also look cool on a Mando or some bounty hunter or whatever hired muscle.
-
interesting, this is from the newest wave of POC gi-joe figs? I hadn't seen any of them yet...
it looks good on the trooper, reminds me of the steady cam clone gunner.
-
Now that's some serious firepower. Nice one, Volker!
-

I haven't seen them yet either, just pics online. And hey!! those two would look GREAT posed together!!
-
I agree.
-
I got the Dukes from an Ebay seller in Oklahoma, but AFAIK the wave 3 figures are available through retail in the States.
Wave 4 should be in retail soon, too.
Big-gun Duke is a wave 3 figure, though.
-
Whoa :o
-
Okay, I've revisited my Sarlacc Squad customs and came up with a somewhat more rugged version of Cap Malice.
You will notice that I've shortened the new Vintage Endor Commando's trenchcoat considerably and also re-worked the front. The coat is very bulky so I also tightened it in the back down the center seam.
Other than that, Cap is pretty much a GI Joe Pursuit od Cobra Recondo figure with a Bespin Luke pistol belt holding a Marauder Gun Runners DL-44 Blaster pistol, rifle and helmet from the Endor Commando plus a set of goggles from a GI Joe ROC ParaViper.
-
He turned out very sharp, Volker! A perfect mix of parts and i like your mods to the softgoods.
Remind me to throw in one of those sets of goggles with your other parts.
-
I've never really been content with the action (or rather non-action) figures Hasbro has made so far. Darth Maul has always been my favorite Sith Apprentice and none of the existing figures have been able to broadcast the raw energy, agility and aggressiveness which was so obvious in Darth Maul.
Hopefully my custom shows that a bit better. Being based on a GI Joe Snake Eyes figure he is fully articulated and can be posed pretty much into every fighting move Ray Park has shown in the movie.
The figure is a GI Joe ROC Snake Eyes, the softgoods tunic is from a 30TAC Endor Luke, head, cloak and lightsaber are from the Darth Maul speeder rider figure.

thats really sweet kurgan
-
The idea for this custom came when I resarched for a piece of Star Wars fan fiction and came across the Sector Rangers, a police force sort of comparable to the Old West era Texas Rangers.
Pictures were not plentiful, details were pretty much limited to what was written in the old West End Games sourcebooks.
Still, I started the project of doing a Sector Ranger figure.
This is a WIP picture of the assembled parts, but maybe I'm going to change some parts and come up with something else.
Let's see...
And this is what I found online:
-
very cool volker
-
I second that, I love the fact you've shown us the source image too. This should make an interesting custom.
-
i really like that maul
-
Interesting take on Maul; the rebel soldier looks sweet in that shortened jacket!
-
Outstanding pieces, Volker!
Maul - THAT is the version I keep hoping Hasbro will put out! Now I know what I can do with the otherwise useless Luke overtunic I have lying about...
Sector Ranger - Off to a great start! So are you going to build his ship from an OH-6A/Hughes 500, too? ;D
Endor Rebel - Fabulous work! That shortened coat is just right. Given his shirt is different from the "normal" squad, I'm betting he'll look more at home with the off-screen group with the three Dresselians...
-
Hi!
Thanks for the praise, people.
Doc, do you have a pic of a Ranger ship?
Converting a chopper sounds like an interesting little project...
-
I did have, once upon a time. I'll see about digging thru my old RPG books and relocating it for you.
-
That would be cool.
If you have a scanner at home and if it's not too much of a hassle: please scan me further info on the Sector Rangers.
I'm still planning to feature them in my next bit of fan fiction.
-
That is cool. Looks great.
-
awesome man !!! ;D
-
looks great Volker
(poor astromech)
-
Very nice work on that trooper!
-
The sector ranger reminds me of that two pack set where Luke is wearing black armor of sorts. I remember also seeing a drawing or something refering to Alliance/Rebel special forces that had something as well. Just a thought. What you've got looks cool, though.
-
dude i got to say your Sector Ranger looks like its off to a great start dude . keep up the good work dude.
-
Daggone, how did I miss this. Expect to see it on the front page soon.
Great addition to Sarlaac Squad too by the way.
-
Rebel Alliance Special Forces Commandos: Task Force Fest.
Of course, they could also be used on Hoth.

-
THEY ARE SWEET!!!!!!!!!
-
I like how these guys turned out! Gives some variety to the Hoth troops that are out there.
The Hoth Special Forces commando works really well with that Frostbite body from the Wolfhound vehicle. I may have to pick that one up; think I saw one at WalMart in my area not too long ago...
-
those turned out tough looking, Volker. Nice job!
-
wow! I love the gun man :)
-
Volker these guys are sweet! I love the Joe's and these make great cross overs into SW. I have a few of these bodies and will be borrowing some of your ideas. I will have some good fodder when those figures arrive. ;)
-
These guys look awesome :o
-
Great use of joe parts these look bad ass man!!
-
Thanks for the positive comments, people!
Those unsung heroes offer a lot of potential for customs as well as for fan fiction and graphic novels.
Let's see how long it will take untill Tamer stumbles across these Hoth-styled troopers...
-
Oh yeah! Can't believe I missed these guys yesterday.
They look great to me Volker. On the front page.
-
Very nice! I feel a chill. Like I'm on Hoth or something.
-
Nice. Those are some tough looking Rebs!
-
great looking joe crossovers buddy, nicely done.
-
Wow, Frontpaged...thank you very much for showcasing my customs again.
-
nice job commander
-
those turned out great
excellent SpecOps rebel troopers Volker
-
most excellent Rebel troopers, great combat gear, very realistic looking!
-
Thanks a lot for the positive comments.
As soon as I can use my hands again, I'll get on to the more challenging customs. You'll see the Sector Ranger and more of Task Force Fest.
-

You ok? Did you hurt your hands? Or is it from your great work and you need to recover?
-
I ripped the tendons in both middle fingers about 2 weeks ago and will have to wait 4 more weeks or so before I can use all my fingers again.
-
Cool customs!
-
As featured in my fan fiction "Never a dull moment" (http://www.imperialshipyards.net/SMF/index.php?topic=6512.0) the Sector Rangers are the tough guys in Galactic Lawc Enforcement.
Now that I can use my fingers again, here's my WIP interpretation of a Ranger. He still needs some minor paint apps and then he'll be good to go:
-
Looks good so far!
This guy looks like he could use a hefty belt with some amp grenades, blaster clips, etc.; what kind of accessories were you thinking of adding (if any)?
-
He'll get an utility belt after the paint apps. I'm already working on it.
-
cool
-
looking good cant wait to see that belt ;D
-
Glad your fingers are good again. can't wait to see the completed Ranger.
-
The other day I got the Imperial Knights comic pack and although they could benefit from an upper torso ball joint and ball-jointed hips, I really dig these figures. They simply look spectacular in their red armor.
But there's just one way to create the ultimate knightly badass...may I present Master Norrs:
-
He doesn't do push-ups, he does "world-downs"! ;D
-
World-downs! hehe.
-
You would expect nothing less than that, right?
-
Awesome 0/
-
Volker, customizing again! Sweet, oh yes this is one bad Master! Well good Master but bad, you know what I mean! On the front page.
-
Thanks for highlighting the figure with a place on the Frontpage.
-
Very nice! World downs indeed!
-
He doesn't do push-ups, he does "world-downs"! ;D
LOL!!!!
-
Very cool custom.

Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present Ty Kwinn: former Imperial Shadow Guard, presently self-employed Investigator, Bodyguard, Mercenary, Bounty Hunter, Enforcer and overall badass and bad-news-type guy to have in your hood.

Cool-looking fig! I'm not usually a fan of using soft goods much, but the robes really worked out well to create the look you were gunning for.
Nice job!
-
Thanks!
The receipe is fairly straightforward:
body from a POC Snake Eyes
head from a POC Tomahawk
vest and belt from a TAC Luke
cloak from a Saga Darth Maul
helmet from a ROC PIT Trooper
lightsaber pike from a TFU Shadow Guard
rotary blaster from Marauder Gun Runners (I shortened the barrels to make it more comfortable to handle)
GI Joe bandolier from the spare parts box
-
Those are both cool i especially love the light sabre! 0/
-
Very cool Volker! I really like that head choice.
-
Wow, looks good to me Volker.
I am guessing those fingers must be getting a bit more limber.
-
Nice work on that fig, Volker! I really like the shot with the cloak and saber.
-
Nice work.
-
I like all the different versions of this guy, but my favorite is the last one. He looks like a badass bounty hunter. Need to pick up that Joe fig with that helmet.
-
Hmmm, the helmet came with the ROC PIT Trooper.
that figure came with a lot of extra accessories, but was pretty well sought after by the army builders. Don't know how well your stores are still stocked with the ROC figures.
If you can't find him, I know that Clint sells a resin cast of that particular helmet...
-
Thanks Kurgan. I need to check out Clints parts. I can't find those new Joes anywhere.
-
Really cool new additions!! The Shadow Guard looks great!
-
I love your customs :) they are so detailed that i can´t believe that this are 3 3/4 inch figures
-
Okay, since the Mando custom contest has closed, I can put my entry into my customs thread now.
As always, I'm not just putting a figure together, but set up a character who fits into my Expanded Star Wars Universe. So here's Thorn Kord, Cuy'val Dar, soon to be a main protagonist in a piece of fan fiction.
Thorn Kord was one of the very few Mandalorian training sergeants, the famous Cuy'val Dar, who actually deployed with his Commandos on Geonosis and fought alongside them in that epic battle.
Called Ever Ready Kord or Old Beskar Breeches behind his back, Kord was both loved and feared by his troops. Being a tough, resourceful and experienced warrior, he shaped the men under his command in his own Supercommando image. All through the Clone Wars, his Rancor Squad set an impressive track record rivalled only by the equally famous Delta Squad.
Kord was mustered out of Republic service after Geonosis, but was called back to cross-train selected Clone troops when casualties among Commando squads became too high.
After the end of the war, Kord returned to Mandalore. His later fate has not been recorded.
Mainly, Kord consists of torso, arms and upper legs of TVC Bespin Luke, lower legs from the EVO Imperial Storm Commando, head from a DTC GI Joe Barrel Roll, resin helmet and slip-on armor from Clonehead, shoulder armor from the pauldron of an EVO Clone Commander, belt, ammo pouches, holster, pistol and rocket pack from an EVO Jango Fett and the Deece from an EVO Republic Commando Fi Skirata and the forearm comm unit from an EVO ARC Trooper.
The paintjob is reduced to two main colours, Olive Drab and Earth Brown to enhance the strictly military/tactical mindset of the character with a slight inkwash and some Terracotta drybrushing to simulate the red dust of Geonosis.
-
:o Very Nice! ;) Glad to see this one made.
-
Great work on that Mando.
-
Nice! Cool work!
-
Kurgan that is one sweet figure! I really love the look and color choices. One of my favorite parts is the lower leg armor. So unique, you never see anyone use those lower legs. Great story line and can't wait to see this fan fiction project! Very well done my friend!
-
Did you use Testors Dullcote on your Mando?
-
Thats an awesome mando man!
-
Did you use Testors Dullcote on your Mando?
I use Marabu Mattlack, that's similar to Testor's Dullcoat, but industrial strength, not for modelling paints.
Thanks a lot for all the praise, guys! I really appreciate your opinions.
-
did you use a base coat on the jango armor before you painted it?i want to paint my apt. jango armor without ruining it like i did the first time i tried a few months back.that particular piece of plastic is hard to paint i find.do you ever use gesso to do a base coat on your fig's?what should i use?if anything.
-
looks excellent Volker another stupendous custom from a custom master.
-
I really like the straight forward clean look of this one, Volker! Nice dull colors without a bit of sheen.
To answer your question,no, I don't use a sealant on my figures as after they are done, I don't really handle em much other than to display. I do put a base coat on em though, usually a flat grey or white Wich the final color seems brighter over.
-

Hi!
I usually basecoat my custom figures with generic "rallye-type" spraypaint, either light grey or black. In the past, I've used primer from Games Workshop, but I found out that the generic spraypaint from the home depot works just as well.
On this one, I just primed the parts which were going to be painted, like the armor and the lower legs. The rest is straight TVC Bespin Luke.

You know, I re-watched your video on the custom Republic Commando and I noticed how well the paint seems to hold up to your handling of the figure. The paint seemed like it was baked into the plastic.

Okay, this project has taken me longer than anticipated, but you'll be able to see that the finished Sector Ranger looks definitely different in some aspects than the WIP I showed earlier.
To be honest, I think he now looks a lot more badass.
-
Nice work Volker!
What helmet is that?
Thanks
Ray
-
It's a GI Joe helmet. Don't ask me exactly from which figure, though. I got it from the parts box and tried to match it to the one shown on one of the few illustrations of a Sector Ranger.
-
Nice looking figure, Volker!
-
yeah,I'd say that looks a lot cleaner, the legs didn't look right the first time around, the head sculpt is nicer, and the added accessories finish the job well.like I say about my customs their always a WIP,till I'm completely happy.he does look very well put together.
-
Volker, I like it. On the front page.
-
Wow, thanks for the honor.
I didn't dare to hope...
-
Nice job on the Mando! I really like your paint job....very clean and precise, makes the figure pop. Also what head did you use for him it looks so natural?
-
Thanks!
I think a good headsculpt can add a lot to the figure.
On the Mando, I used a GI Joe DTC Barrel Roll head, on the Sector Ranger I used a BBI Elite Forces head.
-
Looks awesome Commander Kurgan !
-
Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present Sergeant Kane, Squad Leader in the 41st Long Range Reconnaissance Platoon.
You will recognize the parts used in this no-paint kitbash:
Helmet, head, torso, upper legs - TVC AT-RT Driver
Arms, lower legs - ROTS Commander Gree
Holster - Marvel Universe Black Widow
Pistol - Marauder Gun Runners
Carbine - custom made from the stock and breech of a DC-15 rifle and the barrel and optics of an ARC Trooper rifle
Hatchet - GI JOE POC Recondo

-
that is awesome!
-
I thought I recognized that holster. This is just a great example of kit bashing and is on the front page.
Good to see an update Volker.
-
Wow, thanks for the honor.
It's good to be back.
-
Looks great; I like the black lower legs attached to this body. Nice, new look!
-
Was it Spudafett whon said that GI JOE was the best thing that ever happened to Star Wars customizing?
Guess he was right.
This Rebel Alliance Special Forces Brigade Officer, Codename: ROCK, consists of the torso, crotch and upper arms of a 25th Clutch, lower arms of a POC Recondo, head from a RET Roadblock (likeness of actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson), legs from a Resolute Flint, vest from a Marvel Captain America, helmet from a Rebel Endor Commando, gunbelt from a TVC Luke in Bespin uniform, demolitions kit from a ROC Firefly and the rifle from a 30th Law.
Again, it is a no-paint kitbash.
I wanted the Commando Officer to have the rugged look of a seasoned fighter and therefore went for the Bantha hide vest and the muscular lower arms with the gauntlet and the cloth wrap.

That is awesome.
-
I went through my parts box today and found a TAC Clone Commander as well as a TVC AOTC Clone Trooper.
Off came the pauldron and the belt/kama from the Commander and went onto the Trooper. I also added a spare rangefinder to the Trooper's Phase 1 helmet to create one of the Clone Commanders who received ARC Trooper training after the Battle of Geonosis.
I like the combination of the Phase 1 armor which starts to show individual touches by adding coloured markings, pauldrons and kamas.
Here's Clone Commander Arrow:
Another figure I like as a basic figure for customs is the Gelagrub Patrol Trooper.
On this one I took the softgoods kama and gunbelt off and replaced it with the belt/harness/shoulder armor of a Commander Neyo figure.
I gave him the rifle from a Marvel Universe Cable figure, but he looks sharp with a DC-15 rifle or carbine, too.
Here's Clone Corporal Aitch:

These are sick!
-
Thanks!
I am enjoying the no-paint kitbashes.
It's a style in itself and if you have kids, it's a great advantage: they are fully playable.
-
No paint kitbashes are fun and easy. I still play with mine as i am only a kid so i like them.
-
Nice work on the kitbashes!
-
Thanks.
With these kitbashes, I'm trying to attain the look and feel of a Hasbro stock figure.
We see so many repacks and repaints from them, but rarely a cool combination of existing parts.
-
sweeeet! Volker
-
Thanks, Jay!
-
Nice work! I really like that Endor/Rebel trooper. That is one figure on my list to upgrade and you did a great job.
-
This figure is my entry in the recent no-paint kitbash contest.
Since Starkiller figures are hard to come by in Germany (read: next to impossible) and if you manage to find one, it's prohibitively expensive, I decided to kitbash a Galen Marek figure.
I didn't want just some figure, but I wanted my Starkiller to come with a bunch of accessories.
He's probably not game accurate, but he's in an outfit conceiveable for the character.
The base figure is an Anakin figure. The lower arms and gloves came from an Imperial Storm Commando. I found that the heads on those Starkiller figures I have in my collection don't look much like Sam Witwer, so I chose a GI JOE ROC Duke head which I think looks more like Starkiller.
The blue lightsabers came from my parts box. The cape came with the Anakin figure (I think), the hood is from a TVC Darth Sidious. The softgoods cloak is from the TVC Darth Maul.
I added an "action harness" which came off a ROC Red Ninja and to which I added a kama or inner robetype garment made of a piece of nylon webbing.
The photos show that you can dress Starkiller in different ways so he has a lot of play value.

Look for this one to sport our front page when I do another contest update. You have hit upon one of the main reasons to kit-bash, not only making figures more accurate, but also cheaper to their not as good looking mass produced counterparts. Nice work Volker.
-
great job ;D
-
Top notch figure!
-
Thanks, people.
When I saw the new Star Wars TVC Obi-Wan headsculpt, I knew it was perfect for a self-custom. Now that I've grown a beard and my hair longer, the look is just about right. The basic figure is a Resolution Beachhead. I added a 30th holster and thigh mag platform and slapped a 30th knife sheath onto the DTC Barrel Roll tac vest. Actually, that's the tactical equipment I use. I set up a Marauder Gun Runners M4 the way my own M4 looks and voilá, another no-paint custom figure.

Fantastic figure!

Nice job!
-
Self Custom, I just have to get this on the front page.
-
Impressive. Most impressive!
-
Excellent custom of yourself!
-
Are you really that good looking. ( Joke) LOL.
-
Nope. Just that grumpy.
-
I've always liked the costume Harrison Ford wore in Ep V which is now mostly associated with the Bespin adventure.
It looks cool, yet somewhat generic.
Ebay has finally granted me a TVC Han in Bespin gear figure, but I must confess that I had wanted this figure for the simplest of all customs - the famous headswap.
Throw a different head on the Han figure and voilá, you have a generic cantina patron, evil gunslinger, your personal hero for your next photonovel or fanfiction.
You'll notice that I've given "Duke Solo" a DL-44 Blaster pistol from the Marauder Gun Runners range of products. The weapon does not fit into the holster, but looks great when drawn. If you want a holstered gun, just use the Blaster pistol which came with the figure.
By the way: Except for the swivel waist and no ab articulation, this TVC Han is ball-jointed everywhere, just the way we like it.
Love the figure, it was well worth the wait.

I guess, this one is for Tamer...
Somehow I felt that the TVC Hoth Luke is not all he could be, so he became a Hoth Rebel trooper.
The Luke head came off, the spare head from the new GI Joe Retaliation Trooper with the cool Mohawk haircut came on, I cut down a Hoth Rebel cap from the spares box, cut down the beefy scarf with goggles which came with Luke, gave him hands which are more to scale and the cap and Blaster rifle from another Hoth trooper.
There he is:

Looks good to me. On the front page. And yes, I definitely like Hoth Updates. ;D

Partly undress Toryn Farr and give her Dagobah Luke's gunbelt.

Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris as Imperial Knights! Awesome kitbashing work!
-
Wow, got on here to put Grizz up on the front page and see more. I like that Shadow ARC and your Imperial Knights too.
-
Yeah, got steamrolled by some creativity...thanks a lot for the honor of getting frontpaged.
-
Loving the belt idea on Grizz. And the Imperial Knights.
-
Had to get that Shadow ARC on the front page too.
-
Thanks, Tamer. It's always cool to see one's work appreciated.
-
Really great upgrades here.
Is the Shadow ARC trooper a total repaint?
Is that your detailing on things like the belt buckles?
-
The Shadow ARC is a full no-paint kitbash. He has the head of a Saga Commander Cody (which, as far as I am concerned, is the nicest Clone headsculpt Hasbro has ever done), the pauldron comes from a Sandtrooper, the belt/kama comes from a Hunt for Grievous Battlepack Captain Fordo figure and the blaster carbine is a standard ARC blaster with the stock removed and the sling re-attached.
No painting whatsoever.
-
Well now I bet that is one recipe that will be copied a lot!
-
I have no idea how many kitbashers have the exclusive Shadow ARC figures and the Hunt for Grievous Captain Fordo, but the figure is easy to make. If you don't want to sacrifice any original figures, you can always paint them up, of course.
-
Everybody loves the exclusive Mandalorians, but somehow I've never liked their headsculpts.
When sorting through my figures, I did some simple headswaps. The male headsculpt is from a GI Joe Dusty figure, the female headsculpt is from a Star Wars Padme pilot. Both heads needed to be dremelled out to fit the figures.

After having used the belt and shoulder pauldron from the original figure for a project, I threw a spare belt/pauldron rig from a Captain Fordo on him and decided that I like the new look. The DC-17 carbine fits the clip holster nicely, too.

That new Clone looks good on our front page. More comments on those Mandos there too.
-
One of the reasons I like the ARC Trooper Captain figure so well are the accessories he comes with. They are great to equip other figures, too.
If you look at the tons of accessories the GI Joes come with, it is hard to believe that Hasbro can't do the same with Star Wars.
The little weapons caches were a step in the right direction, though. Too bad they abandoned them. Imagine they had packed one of these in with the ARC Captain. Still, the extra helmet and the pauldron are cool accessories.
While I'm ranting: there's no reason for a Star Wars figure not to be ball-joined everywhere either.
Hasbro, do you hear me?
-
Nice Madalorians. Like em'.
-
A buddy traded me this Black Series Biker Scout at our local action figure roundtable yesterday evening, so I finally could finish my Scout Sniper of the Imperial Special Forces Brigade.
Again, it is mainly a no-paint kitbash with the pistol holster transferred from the Scouts right ankle to the right hip and an added backpack from an EVO (?) Trooper.
I'm still debating if I should add a shoulder pauldron or not. I might, but I wanted to retain the "light" appearance befitting a Scout Sniper without too much bulk of a "heavy".

-
Thanks, Tamer.
Another ARC Trooper is currently in the works.
-
Sweet! Makes me want to unlock those in Commander...
-
It looks good on our front page.
-
Thanks a lot for the honor of being frontpaged again.
-
The combination of Scout trooper and EVO trooper parts is great. I really like the way this custom fits together. Good eye, brilliant work.

ARC Alpha-42 "Striker"
Based on the Legacy Series ARC Trooper figure, this bad boy was given the kama of a blue Sharpshooter Trooper onto which I attached a dremelled down holster off a ROC Paris Pursuit Storm Shadow. The headsculpt is off a Saga Commander Cody (which I think is the nicest Clone headsculpt so far). The ARC Rifle has been shortened to carbine length. With an assortment of weapons, maybe a rapelling cable and a Captain Rex pauldron added, this could be made into an accessory-packed, fully playable figure in notime.

Enjoy!

-
I saw these on FB today and liked them. You are certainly the parts master. I wish Hasbro would contact you for your recipes as your combinations are always stellar based on appearance and mobility; something that seems rarer and rarer in reference to Hasbro Products lately.
-
Oh, I suppose, my views on what an action figure should be today and how it has to be done would not be very popular with Hasbro.
However, we know that they are well able to market very cool figures, just think about the Old Republic Trooper and the ARC Trooper Commander.
I guess that I have been majorly influenced by the modern GI Joes with their superior articulation and tons of accessories. Of course, it is next to impossible to turn a swivel hipped Star Wars figure into a ball-hinged hipped figure, but at least it can be outfitted to have more play value and be like an action figure we would have loved to have when we were boys.
Yes, a well-stocked spare parts box seems necessary, but thanks to some casters and people selling second-hand figures on Ebay and Facebook, parts can bew acquired.
-
Munin Skirata
Most of you will know this character as the adoptive father of Kal Skirata from Karen Traviss’ Republic Commando novels.
He appears only in a flashback, but leaves the impression of a cool dude and tough customer, yet caring father.
I used parts from an Imperial Scanning Crew Technician and a Boba Fett plus parts from the parts bin for this no-paint kitbash. The basic grey on the Crewman and Boba are very similar, so they can be used without a problem.
Since I’m surrounded by great customers, I do not have to explain the boil’n pop method of splicing figure parts together.
You will notice that I have used the feet of the Crewman in order to make the legs look less Boba Fettish.
I think in this case the headsculpt really makes the figure. Many GI Joe collectors don’t like this particular headsculpt, but I love it and, as far as I am concerned, fits the character of Munin Skirata very well.
The result is another fully playable no-paint kitbash.
Knowing that quite a few of you have kids who love Star Wars, too, I think that no-paint kitbashes are a great way of gifting them with unique, yet relatively easy to make, figures which stand up to rough handling.
Real action figures in the sense of the word.

ARC Alpha-44 "Hunter"
Hunter is basically a TVC Clone Lieutenant which I upgraded with a pauldron and a kama to ARC Trooper. A rangefinder was added to the helmet and a working holster to the kama. Again, I shortened the ARC Rifle to carbine length and re-attached the sling. The head was donated by a comic pack Commander Faie.

You have this down to a science. The thing that makes me wonder is you are doing this by piecing all the great pieces together and you would think that Hasbro would have one person or two whose job it was to do things like this for a living. I mean how many folks would buy that creation you just posted on. BTW, that looks great on our front page.
-
Thanks for the honor of being frontpaged again, Tamer.
I really wonder why Hasbro's design people can't give us figures which are, in fact, kitbashes, but don't look like kitbashes. Well, maybe you've got to be a fan to do this?
All it takes is a well-stocked parts bin and a bit of Imagination.
-
I couldn't agree more. They really need more folks like us, along with the designers and I think they could really get us what we want for a better prices. Lets face it, there is existing tooling already there to make most of the parts we need. They could kitbash a new line and most of us would rave about it.
-
Exactly.
Imagine they would release a Fan Favorite Wave in the Black Series, it would sell like hotcakes. I'm confident I could design them a full Wave of figures from existing parts which would fly off the pegs pretty much everywhere.
-
A friend of mine painted up these heads for me. He goes by the callsign Ironpanda on the net, maybe I can get him to register at the Shipyards, because his modelling and paintjobs are simply awesome.

Yeah, I finally found time to finish another Alpha ARC Trooper and work on two other Troopers today.
Here's Alpha-76 "Buzz":
(http://www.fotos-hochladen.net/uploads/alpha76001y4iae7tmcv.jpg) (http://www.fotos-hochladen.net)
(http://img5.fotos-hochladen.net/uploads/alpha760039bdnwtkh15.jpg) (http://www.fotos-hochladen.net)
(http://www.fotos-hochladen.net/uploads/alpha76002sdmzbhae76.jpg) (http://www.fotos-hochladen.net)
Buzz is made up from the Body and helmet of the Shadow ARC Trooper, the head from the Saga Kamino Duel Jango Fett and the kama and pauldron of the Shadow Trooper Commander. A mag pouch from the parts box was superglued to the pauldron. Once the clear varnish has completely dried, he will also sport a Clonehead-made resin DC-17 RC Blaster.

Alpha-38 "Hawkbat"

I also made a short youtube video on my ARC Troopers. Enjoy!

-
Sorry I am just getting to these. Wow, I do like your work.
Off to the front page.
-
Munin Skirata
(http://www.fotos-hochladen.net/uploads/munin004edx9zwuf2s.jpg) (http://www.fotos-hochladen.net)
Which Joe head did you use?
-
I like that Jango Fett. It sort looks like an old serial space movie version. It looks cool.
-
The Joe head I used is off a Red Star/Altitude figure.
Most people don't like it, but I love it. A touch older, experienced, battle-tested, grumpy.
-
Okay, after I wasn't really happy with my previous interpretation of Munin Skirata and having re-read his description in Karen Traviss' book, I had to relaunch him.
The figure is based on the Jodo Kast figure with the Wookie braids and the belt/pouches taken off, a Jango Fett gunbelt added and my all-time favorite Joe headsculpt.
Much better, much cooler, much more Mando. Kandosii!
(http://img5.fotos-hochladen.net/uploads/img5531de7aux54mi.jpg) (http://www.fotos-hochladen.net)
-
Nice, very nice. Looks good on our front and facebook page.
-
i like it very much, especially the expression on the face! I can`t wait to see my Bo-Katan on saturday
-
Thanks for the honor of getting frontpaged with this figure, Tamer.
@Iron Panda: your Bo Katan is ready to move into your home.
-
...and here she is.
I wouldn't be surprised if she wouldn't get an Iron Panda paintjob in the near future.
(http://img5.fotos-hochladen.net/uploads/bokatanh6l1uqf92o.jpg) (http://www.fotos-hochladen.net)
-
Absolutely great work,Buddy!!!
i´m already working on a Base...Thanks so much!!!
-
Holy poop!! That's slick!
-
Iron Panda asked me to cobble together a Bo Katan figure for him.
Of course, I couldn't resist.
First I wanted to use a GI Joe ROC Desert Attack Scarlett body and a Black Widow Scarlett Johannsen headsculpt, but Andy chose this headsculpt from my heads bag and I figured that this body would combine the bulk of beskar'gam with female grace.
The figure consists of a armored Luke Skywalker body, shoulder pauldron from a Galactic Marine, head from a GI Joe Valor vs. Venom Scarlett, resin cast hollow helmet from Clonehead (scratchbuilt range finder) and a blaster pistol from my armory.
-
ARC Captain Alpha-09 "Crane"
(http://img5.fotos-hochladen.net/uploads/crane001qva5tn1fge.jpg) (http://www.fotos-hochladen.net)
(http://img5.fotos-hochladen.net/uploads/crane0024mz70li9kw.jpg) (http://www.fotos-hochladen.net)
(http://img5.fotos-hochladen.net/uploads/crane0039mref48go7.jpg) (http://www.fotos-hochladen.net)
Crane is mainly made up from a TVC ARC Commander body and helmet, the kama and pistols are from an ARC Captain Fordo and the rotating blaster is a shortened Marauder Gun Runners minigun.
-
Wow, great updates on both. Off to share.
-
Looking forward to your Bo Katan. Crane looking good too.
-
Wow, frontpaged again.
Unbelieveable.
Do I read a hint of my Secret Santa present on said frontpage there, Tamer?
@Koth: you can see the unpainted Bo Katan further up. It's the commission figure Ironpanda ordered.
-
Perhaps you did! Merry Christmas buddy!
-
Hoover Dam!
Can't wait for the evening of the 24th.
Here's something to help carry me over til then: Clone Commander Archer
(http://img5.fotos-hochladen.net/uploads/archersdfvu8wx4r.jpg) (http://www.fotos-hochladen.net)
Archer consists of a Black Series Clone Sergeant, his helmet equipped with a rangefinder. The kama and pauldron are from a ROTS green Clone Commander. I used a GI Joe balaclava-covered head on Archer as I imagine that you could attach a hood to the bodysuit if you thought you'd need it.
-
Looks good on the front page.
And not too many more days to wait!
-
Since I had this member of the Rebel Alliance Special Forces' Wilderness Fighters done already, I throw him in for good measure.
The figure is basically a GI JOE Retaliation Ultimate Duke with a Joe Trooper head (love that headsculpt with the Mohawk cut), some webbing from the parts bin and, of course, the softgoods camouflage jacket and Commando helmet from the TVC Rebel Endor Commando.
The jacket started out as a trenchcoat which I shortened and tightened by sewing so it fits a lot more form-fitting over the athletic body and the webbing.

-
I like it.
-
I like it.
Me too, looks good on the front page.
-
Thanks for the honor, Tamer.
Today, after years, I have picked up the brush again and there's no way around it, my eyes have not gotten better and my hand is pretty shaky.
I've not felt more insecure painting since Christ was a mess cook.
Still here's my interpretation of the Punisher, Mandalorian-style.

Commander_Kurgan - I really like the way the GI Joe Endor trooper turned out. Fabulous job on the Punisher Mando. You may not be so confident in your painting, but your results could fool the rest of us. Keep up the fantastic work.
-
I think you are being a bit too hard on yourself with the Punisher Mando. I think he rocks. Looks good on the front page too.
-
Excellent figures and especially the Rebel Alliance Special Forces trooper.
Ron
-
Thanks, people.
I have to realize that my eyesight isn't as sharp as it used to be 20 years ago and that painting is a matter of practice.
So I'll do a little more painting then, I guess.
Thanks for the honor of getting frontpaged again, Tamer.
-
Love the punisher mando, Volker!
-
Painting on that mando looks excellent to me.

Here's today's work:
ARC Alpha-059 "Dredd" and Massiff "Stag".
Dredd is a Comic Pack ARC figure with the head and the hands from a TVC AOTC Clonetrooper. The helmet is a Clonehead-made hollow resin ARF Trooper helmet which I painted and weathered. The holster and Blaster pistol are from the parts box. I cut part of the original pauldron off so the articulation of his right arm is much better now.
Stag is a stock figure which I picked up on Ebay.
I guess, it was captured during the battle of Geonosis and was trained by Dredd.

He looks good on the front page.

Thanks for the honor, Tamer.
-
Dredd´s my fave! I can´t wait to see it on saturday,Volker!!! absolutely great Work!!!
-
Somehow I can't let go of the no-paint kitbashes.
I received two Clones today which should have been Battlefront multipack Sharpshooters, but they turned out to be Commander Keller minus the white poncho. Well, I should have insisted on getting pics of the figures before sending out the payment...
Anyway, I gave Keller a kama off a TCW Rex I had in the parts bin and added the belt buckle and ammo boxes off a spare Clone ammo belt.
Keller's softgoods kama will be found on another ARC Trooper in a few days, so hang in there, people.

Looks good to me. You made lemonade out of lemons I think. Off to share.
-
i like it,looks cool as always!

Since work is taking its toll on my spare time, it has been a while since my last custom projects, but here is my most recent addition to the ever growing range of Clone Wars era figures:
Commander Speer, 1st Shock Battalion

Dear Hasbro,
I've always believed that accessories can easily make a cool figure an awesome figure.
You've got all the parts. I've got all the ideas...
There's money to be made from your customers.
May I present ARC-Trooper Alpha-90 "Gloom"

-
Now thats what I call a message. Off to share.
-
Thanks, Tamer. It's a shame, Hasbro doesn't do more cool kitbashes. It would be so easy to put together a strike team pack of four or six troopers.
Hey, did you see the other two figures one message above Gloom?
-
By speaking of kitbashes: here's the first figure in a series of early Alliance era resistance fighters.
You'll recognize the TVC Bespin Luke as basic figure, GI Joe POC Duke's head (one of the nicest male stock sculpts, I think), GI Joe Resolute Siberia Duke's gloved hands, feet from a TAC Rahm Kota, bandolier and rifle from two TVC aliens.

-
I really like the way this figure turned out. Its a great way to build out the "rag-tag" groups that fought the Empire. The Duke head works really well on the Luke body. Great eye!
-
Nice one, Volker!
I love that head also.
And those gloved hands, perfect.
I wasn't buying them when the resolute line was out.
What do you think of the yelling duke head from the 50th chase for the mass device pack?
-
Thanks, people.
Clint, many people don't seem to like the yelling Duke, but I say: why not?
It's something different and in combination with an action-posed figure, maybe enhanced by an inkwash over the face for a little more depth, or on a figure as part of a small diorama, it might look really cool.
-
My comments are on the front pages.
-
Finally!
I foud some time to continue on my project.
Since my focus is now fully on Rogue One, here are some more Rebel troops.

Hey it is great to see some action in here. Looking good on the front page.
-
Hey!
Thanks for the honor.
-
Lookin' sharp and rebellious!
-
Good job with the parts combination, these look great!
-
Can only agree, great use of parts and great figures as a result! :D
-
Continuing with the Rogue One theme, here's another early Rebellion era Alliance fighter.

Thanks for the honor, Tamer!
-
Thanks for the honor, Tamer!
You are quite welcome, you know we like your work here at ISY! And lots of movement in all your figures too.
-
You know, I want custom figures which are fully playable.
As much as I love the painted figures, you can pretty much just pose them and put them in the showcase, because all those model paints, even if you clear-coat them afterwards, will rub off sooner or later.
I want to be able to take my figures out of their bags (yes, I don't display them in a cabinet or something), pose them, have them wear their accessories, hold their guns etc. and then I put them back into their bags and store them in plastic bins.
Yes, there are times when I help a figure along with some paint or some super glue, but that's that.
At this point in time in my customizing, I try to use as little paint as possible.
-
I really like the way this figure turned out - he looks great. I also can't help but agree with your perspective on action figures - open them, pose, them, put them away and take them out another day (or as my son would say - "play with them.")
-
Love your Customs Kurgan, very good work!
-
Thanks, people.
There's another Rebel trooper based on the appearance of Captain Cassian Andor coming up on Saturday.
-
Today's kitbash:
Sector Ranger (like shown in the old Westend Games Sourcebooks)
(http://img5.fotos-hochladen.net/uploads/img0990v1fksqbt0h.jpg) (http://www.fotos-hochladen.net)
(http://img5.fotos-hochladen.net/uploads/img0991yuvw6e7tfj.jpg) (http://www.fotos-hochladen.net)
And another early Rebellion era Rebel soldier, probably an officer.
(http://img5.fotos-hochladen.net/uploads/img0993c6grkb5q7f.jpg) (http://www.fotos-hochladen.net)
(http://img5.fotos-hochladen.net/uploads/img09948qfrkv6lda.jpg) (http://www.fotos-hochladen.net)
-
They both look good to me. Off to share.
-
Thanks for the honor, Shawn.
Here's today's creation: another Rebel trooper.
A while ago I was fortunate enough to pick up a couple of Cracken figures and this time I mated his torso with Bespin Han's lower body and legs. The head, again, is from the GI Joe range. The helmet is from a POTF Obi Wan figure and fits better than the picture shows.

What a great bunch of kitbashs...the results look really convincing and not as if the parts came from different sources. Tolle Arbeit, beide Daumen hoch! :)
-
Looks good to me. All kinds of arty. Off to share.
-
Thanks a lot for the compliments.
-
I am really liking these kitbash's . Keep them coming
-
You are on a roll Commander. The Cracken figure really lends itself well to customs, especially using Joe parts. Great bunch. Cant wait till we get the 3.75" Black Series Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor figures...I see lots of customizing potential in them.
-
Same here.
Can't wait to lay my hands on a couple of these new figures.
-
Really digging the parts combo on that Cracken figure!
-
Great parts combos on the Rebel figures - that Cracken body does provide some good variety for the Rebel ranks. I really like how the Sector Ranger turned out - could totally see building a squad of them:)
-
Untill I can obtain the upcoming Jyn Erso from the Black Series, this custom Jyn will act as a stand-in.
She is a fully playable kitbash made from a combination of parts from the parts bin.
(http://img5.fotos-hochladen.net/uploads/jyna9mozpb205.jpg) (http://www.fotos-hochladen.net)
-
Cool rogue one figures! Keep em coming!
-
Looks good to me Volker. It is definitely better than the 5 POA version out right now. Off to share.
-
These Rogue One figures look great!
Distribution here in Germany has become a little better over the last years, but availability of TBS is just horrible, isn't it? I am curious if and when Rogue One products will be available here...with the quality of your customs you might not even need to buy any figures! ;)
Keep up the great work!
-
Thanks, people.
Actually, I am really looking forward to the Rogue One wave of the 3.75" Black Series. If they look just a good in hand as the photos we've seen so far, they must be really great.
I agree, though, distribution in Germany is horrible.
We get all the 5POA crap, but they could have found another distributor in those countries where there's no WalMart or ASDA.
-
Kurgan, that's a great take on Jyn. The parts combo certainly is a reasonable facsimile.
-
That Jyn custom is nice stand-in for the TBS figure. But it's also good enough IMO that once you get the official version, she should stay on as a new character. What's the source for her head (different toy line)?
-
I have no idea which figure the head is from originally, but you're right, stand-in Jyn can stay as some other smuggler or whatever character.
-

Alliance nerd - the head is from the Marvel Universe/Infinite series Wasp figure.
-
Thanks for the lead, Starchaser!
-
Hi all!
I know, I have not been really active over here during the last year.
My scale seems to have shifted from 3.75" to 1:1.
May I present my Rogue One Rebel SpecForce Commando:
-
Here's a variant of the SpecForce Commando created for a fan film project:
-
And my first attempt at Mandalorian Beskar'gam made from real metal:
-
VERY COOL STUFF! Cannot wait to see more.
-
Wow, great costumes both. I can't pick a favorite. Course I love the armored stuff. Great color scheme on that Mando too. Off to share.
-
It's so great you're back on here Kurgan! I really like your costumes, too! They look great on you!
The Rogue One Rebel SpecForce Commando costume looks excellent! I think Star Wars costumes in camouflage are pretty tricky, the Rebel Commandos in particular - it's not easy to make them look like a costume of the SW universe instead of a regular soldier costume.
You made your costume look very authentic with all these accessories - especially the helmet, vest, belt, the backpack and boots! Very cool!
The Mandalorian armour in red-black looks fantastic as well! I love it - the helmet is spot on!
By the way: When I opened the frontpage this morning I was like: "Wow, this is the MOST realistic action figure I've ever seen - must be HotToys! :o Then I read you switched to 1:1 scale and became an action figure yourself ;)
Best regards from Dresden!
- Philipp
-
They both look awesome.
Ron
-
Thanks for the praise, y'all.
If there's one think I have learned while building these costumes, it's that you can paint a lot in a comic, you can design anything on a computer and you can do a lot on an action figure, doing it 1:1 is a whole different ball game.
Also: when shooting a movie you can yell "CUT" all the time, re-glue something or put on a spare costume, but when you are walking around in your fan-made costume the whole day, there's no film crew blowing fresh air into your helmet or a friendly crew girl hot-glueing something together or re-paint it while you're taking a break.
You take your costume out to a convention or chsrity event - it better stays together untill the day is over.
-
I got a Shadow Stormtrooper armour that I still need to restore and improve...I think you gained much experience with your costumes and found the right words to perfectly sum it up!
By the way: The movie/fan shooting you mentioned - can we watch it somewhere like on YouTube?
- Philipp
-
These are fantastic, costume! These look right
Out the movies and games, excellent!
-
Both costumes are amazing.
I like the mix of accessories on the Rebel Commando custome.
