Title: Sideshow 1:6 ESB Probe Droid (Hoth Probot)
Post by: jkno on December 01, 2013, 04:55:07 AM
Didn't realize there is no topic about this iconic ESB Probe Droid that will be released by Sideshow and is up for pre-order for a few days already. It costs $250 and comes with light and sounds.

I agree this is a pretty cool offering. I will probably bite if they offer a sale or something. Waiting on that great Hoth Han, Luke, and Taun Taun too.

I pre-ordered this, because is way too cool not to have it, really iconic, but canceled the 1:6 ESB Vader

An interesting thread at RPF where I asked about the accuracy of the Sideshow Probe Droid - seems it will be modeled after the 1:1 prop, and also a talented RPF member worked on it with Sideshow: http://www.therpf.com/f79/sideshows-1-6-probe-droid-accuracy-help-190579/

A few more pics of this bad boy:

This is one item that I am really excited about. I simply cannot wait to get this in. So how many folks have this on pre-order?

I am debating on the pre-order. I jsut think that with these items they cost a lot more than I am willing to spend plus I have no where to display something so massive!

I will be honest, I think this one has me the most excited out of all the Hoth Items they have coming up this year. I am gonna have to be super picky when it comes to what I want though, these things just cost too much.

I think this excites me more than the eFX 1:1 helmets that should come this year. The Probot is a piece I wanted for a long time, the Attakus 1:5 statue was too fragile and also not too accurate, and the 2 RPF studio scale kits were a bit too expensive, and you also needed someone talented to assemble the kits professionally. So this 1:6 figure, made by Sideshow with the help of a RPF professional, is a great option.

Depending on when I go on to the next pipeline project, THIS ONE ITEM could get me into 1:6 collecting...

The quality of Sideshow is unparalleled, but with the cost you have to be pretty picky. This is the one must have item I think if OT Fans have to pick they will pick this one.

Glad at least here imageshack didn't delete my pics... Anyway, since I don't like the bobblehead famished Snowtrooper Premium format, part of the money I had saved for it will go towards the Probe Droid.

I wondered what you thought about that Premium Format Snowtrooper. Most folks seemed to like it.

As someone on Sideshow Freaks said a couple years ago: "if Sideshow would release a rock with a pebble as exclusive, there will be at least 50 people to buy it instantly, and then declare how much they love it". Unfortunately for me the 1:4 Snowtrooper PF doesn't look right as it is. The pants are too tight, the head/helmet too large and neck too long - these things combined make it look like a famished bobble head. The fixed rotated head is also a big minus. A regular articulated 1:6 figure could be modified (make the pants puffier, shorten/modify the neck, and rotate the head front or in a more normal position), but not this fixed statue.

I'm a big Imperial fan, but I don't buy everything just because it is Sideshow. Sideshow is well known for their "artistic interpretation" and lack of accuracy on too many of their items. I can live with the errors on the 1:6 Snowtrooper, because it still looks better overall than this statue and its price was much less. I can live with the errors on the 1:4 Stormie PF because my main focus are Stormies, but not on the Snowtrooper. I have a $10 bobble head in my collection (a funny Stormie), I don't need another with 35 times its price.

I got my notice that this was getting ready to charge and ship too. I am looking forward to it.

They say it is great, but a bit on the fragile side, so you have to be careful when assembling it

Indeed it is a great option. Lightsword is the Rebelscum member who got one for me too. But you can buy from ebay : http://www.ebay.com/itm/301064676503?_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT They are not expensive anyway.

An advice for whomever missed it the first time: BUY IT!! NOW!!! Do not miss it again. It is one of the best if not the best SSC figure, it has the design quality of the best Hot Toys figures. It is like a smaller model/studio scale of the screen used Probe Droid, and with Jason Eaton contributing you can understand its quality
