Re: Lostcauze501st's Vehicles Modified Jedi Starfighter WIP

Haven't been working on my freighter as much lately. Picked up a few starships in a lot on ebay last week, one of them was Anakin's modified Jedi Starfighter. I like the blue and white paint scheme but wanted to change it up a bit. I completely gutted it and removed several of its sections for painting. Here are a couple of WIP pics of what i've come up with so far for the top section and canopy.. I need to clean up the lines a bit more to make them look more clean. Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks for the replies everyone, and the fp Tamer. It's been a fun project. Still workin on making a fin for behind the canopy, it's my first time experimenting with styrene and i'm really loving all the possibilities styrene provides.

I've been working on my modified starfighter, added some weathering and decals. Still a WIP but I like how its coming along.

The astromech dome is actually an R3 unit from the Star Tours BAD, went there for my birthday a couple weeks back. I cut out the R2 unit the ship originally came with and hollowed it out to fit in the BAD head mount. Now I can use any BAD astromech dome with the ship.

Looks great: the weathering on this sucker is PERFECT!

The blistering of the paint on the engines stands out to me most.  Looks this ship has seen a lot of action!

Light side, dark side...meh.  Just give me a lightsaber and a blaster and I'll take care of it!

Re: Lostcauze501st's Vehicles V-Wing
« Reply #44 on: April 25, 2013, 05:02:14 PM »
The V Wing has always been one of my favorite ships from the prequels and I finally got a chance to purchase one at a local garage sale. I have seen several customizers across the web use LED lights in there vehicle customs and I have always wanted to give it a try. The idea of using LED's has always been intimidating because I have absolutely zero knowledge or know how when it comes to any form of electrical wiring or configuring. I was browsing the forums on another site and came across this store, http://www.modeltrainsoftware.com/ , that sells inexpensive LED light set-ups and equipment. I read a couple of tutorials on the site and decided to give it a shot. I got my package in today and after a couple of hours of tinkering came up with this.

Sorry if the picture quality isn't the best. I ordered three clear white, and two red LED's and installed them throughout the ship. The lights are connected to a switch, that I also purchased from Model Train Software, and the switch is connected to a 9 volt battery that is hidden inside the ship. I had to hollow out a large enough space for the battery to fit comfortably inside the frame. Overall it was definitely a fun experience and not as difficult as I originally thought. I added some decals and panel lined the V Wing, the wings that are over the cockpit are actually temporary tattoos that I sealed after placement.
