It's coming along great and that minirig/skiff is really great too. Really like the cantina instrument as control panel. That little touch makes it "Star Wars" to me: props re-used for other things - like using the drink dispenser as IG-88 or the Graflex flashes as lightsabers... that "re-use" is what gives world such a cool vibe. I always love it when customs carry that forward, it makes them more Star Wars-y and it gets me giddy like a little girl.
this project is coming along great. I like the use of the Bionicle pieces as claws too.
You know, I got a little cool tip from the local model shop guy last week, about using Lego and vending machine toy parts, that may help you with your details as you go on this, especially if you use more Bionicle stuff?
He was saying an easy way to "fill the holes" on Lego stuff like mechanical arms or girders is to take a few tiny scrap pieces of styrene (like the little 1mm slivers you get trimming) and a piece of scotch tape. Tape one end of the hole, put a few pieces of the tiny bits of styrene in the hole. Don't totally fill it up with bits. Drop a few drops of model glue (he said ZAP-A-GAP brand works best, which is what I was buying) into the hole, filling it up. Let it set 24+hrs. Use a swizzle stick sander to smooth it out after it dries, and you now have a "solid" mechanical arm, which you can put plate over the filled hole or sand/paint to preference.
This tip was really about using Lego parts (we have lots of cheap bootleg lego in this town) and capsule toys (there are $1 and a good source of greeblies here) but I don't see wht you couldn't do the same to disguise the Bionicle or anything else you're doing really.
