I haven't done a custom Star Wars figure in many years. I'm jumping back in this week with an idea I got from someone on Rebelscum, who was making a custom Clone Spec Ops group, fitted for a desert environment. I wanted to do something similar, but attach them to the woodland/jungle camo 41st Elite Corps. I love the Commander Gree figure, but I don't love the troops that have been released that were assigned to him.
This Commando will be part of a small combat unit in the 41st made of troopers with different specialties. I love the Commando helmet, but I never had a chance to mess with them because most of the figures that used it were harder to find or uncommon. I got a hold of a few in some junker lots from Asia. I killed the body, cut and spliced the arms to a normal Clone body, and dremeled the helmet to fit. I'm not quite done with him yet, I have another element I am working in, and the clear coat is drying. This is the first figure I have used the Testors Dull Coat on.

I'll hopefully update with a finished piece tomorrow, and eventually, maybe I can post a few customs from about 10+ years ago. I had a gallery on Dan Curto's site around then, and though I sold many of the figures off, i still have a few from that time that still hold up.
-
Wow!!! Looks great!!!
-
Nice, time to take this one to the front page.
-
Awesome, thanks! I am hoping to have some good pics of the finished figure later today or tomorrow.
-
very very cool trooper
-
This guy is AWESOME!
-
Finished pics. I was hoping to get outside with him, but not today. I didn't want to replicate the Gree paint scheme/pattern, so much as make a figure that would fit with him but stand apart.

This is so AWESOME!
-
one of the best RC customes i've seen, excellent job!
-
Looks good. I will have to get that back on the front page soon.
-
That is a great looking RC!
-
This guy looks great. I envy your camo painting skills. Whenever I paint camo it never looks convincing. Great stuff
-
Now that is sharp looking! Was that wrap at his neck from a han solo figure?

Thank you! I am sorry i didn't see this post sooner. Camo can be super fun but tricky, not just getting the colors and shapes right, but the scale and composition, too. I've laid out shirts and pants in front of me for reference before. But sometimes, I just make it up as I go along.

No, it was from the Pursuit of Cobra Dusty, with the fabric removed.

I haven't been posting much because I was bogged down working on some other projects. I am the project manager for the crew that puts together custom exclusives for a local toy show, NJCC, and it took up a lot of my time. I finally finished up the other day, so I cranked out a new figure. It is GI Joe this time, not Star Wars. I do a lot more GI Joe figures than Star wars anyway, but lately I only post them on facebook for friends to see.
This was a super simple "Retaliation"-ish Low-Light. I just dry brushed the Snake Eyes from the 3 pack with a couple different grays, repainted a DG Shipwreck head, and added goggles, a marauder sniper rifle, and a cast of the retaliation Clutch vest from RaginSpoon. The red kneepads are leftover from a previous casting project.

Wow, it looks tops to me. On the front page.
-
Now this is a Joe! Nice touches on the thermal with the drybrushing and the spots of red stand out perfectly. I love the blond beard too; nice choice there.

This is going to be a long update. I have been spending WAAAYYY too much time stalking Lucasclones and Luke Sprywalker on Facebook, and they have been a huge influence on my work for the past month, not just in theme and execution, but also in how prolific they both have been.
I'll start with what was, for me, a simple repaint...kind of. I mentioned before that I am project manager for the NJCC custom figure giveaways. Well, last show, we used a Retaliation Roadblock to make a Salvo custom. After the GI Joe convention set, Nocturnal Fire, spotlighted Night Force, I saw an opportunity to take the "Night Force" looking Roadblock from the Retaliation ninja Dojo 3 pack and adapt him in a similar manner with some damaged NJCC Salvo parts. This is Night Force (NJCC) Salvo.

This figure is the first of my "Copying Spry and Lucasclones" Ghost Ninjas. I wasn't sure what colors I wanted to use for this first Ghost ninja, so I tried an "ectoplasm" looking greenish ghostly apparition. So, this is my "Ghost Ninja swordsman Apparition", appearing to Storm Shadow.

This next figure was inspired by the teal colored web gear from the Snake Eyes in the recent GI Joe Retaliation 3 pack. Initially the web gear was designed for a Pursuit of Cobra Jungle Storm Shadow that was meant for 2010 release but was canceled, although somewhat easy to obtain from Asia on eBay as a "prototype". I took the teal web gear and tried to copy the original unreleased Storm Shadow with a black, gray and teal color scheme and use it as a Pursuit of Cobra Ninja Ku. Ninja Ku was originally a black repaint of the 1984 Storm Shadow released in South America in the 1980's, and he inspired a SS repaint in the 25th Joe line.

The next three pieces were created from parts made by a resin artist who goes by "the Mark Ultra". I've recently gotten into art toys, specifically resin art, and he is one I have bought from and traded with. i sent him a box of parts he wanted for projects, he sent me a bag of some of his resin figure parts, but in "kit" form, he had not assembled anything. The next three piece came from those parts.
I just call this "Alien overlord". The head and body were from TMU, the collar was scratch built.

This is a repaint with added parts of Mark Ultra's "Dave" astronaut figure that has been released in several colorways from both himself and as a collaboration with Killer Bootlegs. You can see, it is a combination of recast vintage Star wars and GI joe parts. I took an unpainted figure, added the mutated limbs and skull head, and repainted it in a similar scheme to the first Dave release.

This final collaboration was a cast of a kitbashed MUSCLE figure that was damaged, so I added the robot hand. Apparently the whole MUSCLE format is pretty big within this genre, I'm not very familiar with it but i saw a cool opportunity to paint up a fun figure.

OK, the next figure was an attempt to adapt a Chap Mei sniper figure to a modern GI Joe figure format. It isn't perfect, but close enough for me without dumbing down the paint job and sculpting the webgear from scratch.

Back to the Ghost Ninjas, originated by the Concept case reveal at Joe con 2012 and popularized by Sprywalker and Lucasclones (who I was totally inspired by). This is my Ghost Ninja Assassin.

This is my most recent Ghost Ninja, I'm just calling it "Forest Swordsman". I assembled him from some reject parts, so he is really kind of a mess of joint rubs, but I like how he came out so I might remake him with better parts later.

This last guy is a Ghost samurai WIP. I took the Wolverine Silver Samurai and dremeled him to death, then added all the parts to a DG Storm Shadow. I am still deciding on a color scheme but I am leaning towards red.

Wow, what a great update. I can see that you have been busy.
Back to the front page.

Great Update Kevin. There are seriously too many wesome peices here to comment on! Great work all around!
-
Too Cool Man!
-
Lots of cool customs 0/
-
Kevin this is a mind blowing update! I love every piece here, such nice work! The ghost ninjas are some of my favorites and I may have to buy that Silver Samurai as I must try to make one of those for my collection. Such a great looking figure in just white!
-
Man there are a ton of great customs in this update. Had to get it back on the front page.
-
Thanks guys! Luke, I might be doing a second set of armor and seeing who wants to cast it. It would respond to paint a lot better cast in a harder material. I have a couple more Ghosts planned, I keep getting more ideas watching Chad do his. Right now, i am working on some more of the weird stuff, I got more parts from another resin artist named Killer Bootlegs that I am playing with.
-
Great Ghost Samurai, i would love to see him in a dark grey or Black!
you did a great job.
-
My work the last few months has taken a different turn, as I have been working more on cast parts and figures from some resin artists that I have been trading with and buying from. The first big push came from some parts I got from artist 2BitHack, who has bashed together a series of Star wars figures with some 1/25th scale Homies and other parts. He first sent me 2, one a Chewie figure, and the other a Boba Fett. Both were damaged or incomplete, so I had no problem completely redoing them.
I understand that this isn't really the standard Star Wars style figure custom, so i am totally cool if a lot of people don't quite appreciate what I am going for, but I had a lot of great response on facebook, so I thought I would collect a bunch of them here.
I started with the Fett, which was a Fett helmet on a Homie figure that was holding an ice cream cone. Something about this figure really spoke to me and inspired all the work I have done on these figures.

The second figure, whcih started out as a Chewie, got hacked up and I added an ERG head for fun. The camo pants or shirt has become a standard with all the pieces I have been making, mainly because I love painting camo, but also because it makes them pretty unique from other similar work.

This one wasn't Star wars related, but it is from the same "series". i had a cast head and hand from another artist for the Creature from the black lagoon, so I bashed those onto one of the figures, but with only one arm, I had to improvise the other one. I used an old BAT arm cast.

This one was difficult, because the cast was in bad condition and needed a LOT of work. I almost abandoned it halfway through, but I didn't want the parts wasted. It is based on a T-Shirt image I had seen that combined Darth Vader with Che Guevara, so i base coated it in red, and dry brushed black over it to simulate the look of the original image.

I added a cape for some pics, but didn't keep it.

I was really happy with how this one came out, not just the execution, but the completely nonsensical nature of it (even more so than the others) and it still works. On FB someone called him "Admiral Ackbro" and there were lots of "it's a trap" jokes. I wanted to write "TRAP" on his hat but it was just too tiny for me to pull off.

I have some other stuff done as well, but these 5 are it, currently, for this "series". i have 2 more figures to play with and I think I have some more on the way soon to keep the idea going.

Great looking customs mate and I like the little Homie SW figures well done.

It is an interesting mix if you ask me. I am off to share. More comments on the front page.

Loved seeing these on fb and am so glad you decided to share them here. I think it would be cool to photograph these guys like they are waiting in line for SW Celebration or a convention of any sort waiting for the doors to open. Well played sir!

Thanks guys, and thanks for the FPing!!! I just want to make it clear, the concept was all from 2BitHack, I just adapted some of his figures to my own parts and ideas. If you want to see some of his stuff, his storenvy is http://2bithack.storenvy.com/ , and these figures were part of this series, http://2bithack.storenvy.com/products/905514-mi-empire-loca-street-soldiers . He also did this which is awesome

And his Boba Fett styled figure, the first one i painted, will be at Designercon this month, i believe. He showed some pics of a dozen or so fully painted a couple weeks ago on Facebook.
Thanks again!!1

Nice work on these. That certainly is a different direction to take.
You are right about the camo being fun to paint and yours turned out nicely.

Those are all cool.

The artist that originated the idea just put up all of his leftovers from D-Con over the weekend, so you can see his versions that I have used casts of to make mine.

Killer Bootlegs released three versions of his Ewoking Dead figure so far-the bagged version, and two different carded versions that were available at NYCC and at D-Con. He was cool enough to hook me up with one of his armless off-cast Ewoks, then gave me some of the fabric he used for the cowls. This is what I did with it.

The only good ewok is a zombie ewok!
-
Now there's an Ewok that could defeat the Empire!
Great, gruesome work on him...and I like the mashup of the SW characters with the weird hip-hop styled bodies...great paint work and blending the two styles. Very amusing, unique, and well-executed.
-
Love it! Very well done.
-
Just so wrong ;)
-
Wow, that might be the most gruesome zombie custom I have seen; Star Wars or otherwise. Off to share.
-
Very impressive work. I love the quirkiness of the Homies and the Ewok is great.
-
Awesome work on the zombie ewok mate the details really bring it all together.
