Title: 2009 evolutions sets
Post by: Clonehead on June 25, 2009, 07:12:26 PM
As reported by scum, these are to be walmart exclusives. I would hope that the Republic Commando fig will have a removable helmet.

The lineup includes:
Clone Commandos:
# Alpha (ARC Trooper)
# Fi Skirata (Republic Commando)
# Storm Commando (Imperial Special Forces)

Imperial Pilot Legacy II:
# Clone Pilot (Republic Gunship)
# Clone Pilot (V-Wing Starfighter)
# Imperial Pilot (TIE Fighter)

Rebel Pilot Legacy III:
# John Branon (Red Squadron)
# Shira Brie (Rogue Squadron)
# Jake Farrell (A-Wing Pilot)

Some very cool looking sets too bad they're Walmart Exclusives! :-\
I plan to get the Rebel Pilots and Commando but the Imperial set really misses the mark with me.  Since Fi is coming in Evo format and it's been discontinued, I wonder how they'll bring the rest of the Squad to us?

I've been waiting for these pilot sets!!  I can't wait.  My son is excited about the clone commandos too.

I'm excited about these also. I believe that we have to wait till Sept for them, though.

I may have to resort to mugging small children.  I need commandos - I'd like at least four boxes, maybe eight.  Brendan says he wants "as many as I can get my hands on...and...afford..."  I'll need at least two Geonosis/Gunpod sets.  I like that geligrub set, just because I like riding beasts - prolly only get one, tho.

Yep, I too can foresee a late summer and fall spending spree picking up this cool new stuff. Oh what a wonderfully expensive collecting habit I have.

I can't find an auction, DRS. How about a link? I can clean it up after you post it.

Sounds like customs in the works to me...

Yep, that means that any tc custom with a removable helmet would be a hot item. I may have to finally get around to hollowing one of those helmets out.

the commando appears to be the same mould as all the old ones. i've gotten my hands on that arc trooper, same mould as comic pack blue arc trooper, but new head and helmet. the head is a older looking one, and the helmet's rangefinder can swivel, though that makes it drop out easily too

It does look like the original RC mold but this one is supposed to be super arty.
How you been doing, Jenks?

I plan on only getting one of these  I really only want aged Alpha and Fi, the scout I have no need for too EU. I would like to see them repaint all of Delta and Omega Squad using this new mold however it would be nice if they updated with shoulder joints soon! This would also be nice if they released a basic white Commando.

My guess is that they will release repaints of that RC in a legends format sometime in the future, Fett. I still cant believe that they didnt make his helmet removable.

It's really not that important we all know what's underneath and how to hollow out a helmet right. ;)

the comic pack RC is white with dirty feet, the  back pack from the RC video game which i like better, and an all black version of Scorch's grenade rifle.
a  little expensive now but i have seen them go reasonably both MOC and loose on ebay.  i have 4 loose and 4 MOC. didnt really like the SBD that came with it, but the comic story was worth it .

indeed it does.
i have been pondering making my own SA commando by cutting off the legs at the joints and then drilling and reassembling them using the joints from a standard EPII or EPIII clone which i have in abundance, but am at a loss when it comes to making the feet and ankles work. when looking at the feet side by side, they just dont look the same and that isnt really a big problem, but i wouldnt be totally happy with killing the commando to make a crappy frankenstein clone. and leaving the feet out of the swap  is kind of missing the whole point IMO.
to do it or not???

Y'know... I'm sitting here with one of my Omega Squad fig's in hand, looking for him to this pic and back.

I'm convinced this EVO RC is an effing repaint.

I'm heading to the Hasbro Q&A thread.....

You know you can just swap out the legs from the hip down with all new ones from a Clone with just some minor on the hip joints, but they are a tad narrower then the Commando legs.

You know, that sure does look like the same body sculpt to me, also. Did we not get a glimps of a skinnier looking prototype RC body earlier in the year? I will be upset if this is just another repaint.

The RC leg armor is cut differently - it covers more of the leg and has different contours.  Having said that, I *might* go on and do it to the comic-pack RC I have, just to have something semi-functional until I can buy a boatload of the EVO RC's.
Title: Re: 2009 evolutions sets
Post by: dana.raye.smith on July 18, 2009, 06:25:20 PM
As i stated before, i have no real shortage of clone commandos. Multiple of each Delta and Omega member, close to a dozen Scorch figs including loose and carded, as well as about 9 comic pack RCs.
The legs on the commandos are beefier and more heavily armored as Doc said.
All the pics i have been able to find of the new EVO RC are posed in ways i can not pose any of the RCs i have... which leads me to believe or hope that the new ones are better articulated below the waist.
I would like to keep the appearance of my modified self SA'ed RC as close to stock looking as possible.. even though inside I kind of feel like I am committing a sacreligious act by customizing it in this way.
Like jumping out of a perfectly good airplane into combat.. you gotta make me first.

You know back when they came out with Omega squad I decided I wasn't going to buy any more Commando's until they updated the sculpt, my only hope now is they'll redo both Delta and Omega Squad in this new sculpt. IMO the legs on this new Commando look too narrow compared to the upper torso otherwise I think it would have turned out great.
