Wow, just a great back story to go with an excellent diorama. Look for it on the fp soon.
-
I can't wait to see this continue. I must admit that MOTU was one of my must see shows when I was a kid. I even missed the bus one day to watch it on the TV at school because they had cable.
On the front page!
-
LOVE IT! I hadn't taken the time to really look this over, but now that I own the base I can tell exactly how much work you must've put into this. VERY nicely done man.
Back story is great, look forward to seeing it continue!
I'm asked to login when I try to access your secret shot, is there a way to see it without needing a login? :D
-

Thanks! It took a TON of work to make everything come together like I wanted but it was so very worth it in the end :)
The next chapter will be added sometime towards the end of next month as I am still gathering parts. This will eventually be a trilogy with at least 8 figures and 4 beasts in addition to the diorama.

Just wait until you see the rest of this series, I promise you that my take on this mythos will be unlike anything EVER done with the franchise before! :)
-
Sounds good to me.
that is a great back shot of that diorama too.
-
HA! That's some GREAT use of random parts to make a cool tech detail.
Comm-tech chip, astromech legs, ROC backpacks! It really took me a minute to realize those were all individual pieces, I was going to ask what the whole piece was from. VERY cool.
-
Now that is what I call trash to treasure. Very nice.
On the front page.
-
These accessories are just AWESOME!!! What a paint job - these parts would be so great for a Tatooine diorama...got to work on something like this ; )
-
Wow, I just saw this post after finishing up trying **the exact same thing** with the launchers. AND I'm working on a tatooine dio. Yours look amazing. I gave up after an hour with the dremel but now I think I'm going to give it another shot tomorrow. Great work!!!!!!
-
AWESOME!! I *knew* those things were good for something - glad someone figured out WHAT!
So, in the first pic, did you add some sort of cap to them?
Also, if you end up with an extra launcher from a Hypervelocity Iron Man (or its repaint), I'd be interested in obtaining it.
-
WOW! superb custom diorama fodder!
-
Thanks guys!
There are alot more items coming in the next week :)
-
nutz Spectre absolutely friggin' nutz never would thot about doing something like that. I figured keeping mine just for greeblies for vehicle, these are awesome great job.
-
Thanks guys! Look for several more tonight or tomorrow! :)
-
WOW!!! Amazing use for those. I know what I'm doing this week.
-
Spectre if ever you are going to throw away parets like this please offer it up to the community as I would gladly pay shipping to get fodder. I use this stuff all the time. They also look good added to vehicles. I love what you turned them into then with your paint skills they are just awesome! Great call and I am glad they didn't make it into the trash!
oh yea, I relly love the moisture vap. great job cobbling everything together! I just live for random things like this made from junk.
-
Again this is great stuff.
WOW... I really love these.
-
Wow, painted up they look even better. Back on the fp with them.
-
That Watch Tower looks awesome. I can see one of the Yavin Moon Rebels in that Tower. Tiime to take this pic update to the front page.
-
Really really neat stuff! What did you use as the "cup" for the watchtower?
-
Really really neat stuff! What did you use as the "cup" for the watchtower?
Thanks! :)
It's a removable turret from the Cobra Ringneck vehicle from the early 2000's. I have another one to make another tower in the future :)
-
Awesome sentry post...
Love the coloring on it. Look very used, and that is a good thing, even though it sounds weird typing it...LOL
TIEpilot
-
Great work on all accounts! Each piece has a lot of character and works very well.
-
Absolutely amazing use of imagination! These are spectacular!
I also have a ton of those missile launchers from figs over the years and have thought about the same exact thing you've done here, but I never actually did anything with them.
I love the paint technique that you use to make these look like they actually came from the SW movies as set pieces...are you willing to share some insights into your paint process? I know I'd love to be able to even come close to replicating this paint technique!
-
i just can't get over how you keep out doing yourself. I kept my springs loaders in hopes of using them for greeblies for a vehicle or something or if all else failed give them to my son just to shoot around the house. But this is genius the pieces fit right in to SW universe perfectly. Great job.
-
Those are awesome set pieces, excellent use of those fugly big weapons nobody wants. Now everyone wants them of course!

Thanks!
That's the sad part of making cool stuff, now if I want to make any more of them, no one will want to part with their launchers LOL
I still have about 2 dozen assorted ARAH and misc. launchers in the bag that I haven't figured out what I am doing with so I still have some for future use :)
-
These things are just awesome! You've totally inspired me to dig thru my junk box and try to cobble something together! They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery...so hopefully you'll see it that way if similar items show up here also. But not as nicely painted, tho. Your weathering style is really good.
-
Excellent use of parts for the generators and great paint apps. I absolutely love the watchtower!
-
I have always enjoyed your work, DK, and I'm starting to think its because of the methodology you use. Taking crap that you would normally toss, applying your style and perception of what it could be, assembling it to make stuff you actually want and your painstakingly detailed recoloring, it reminds me of the original star wars. This was back before george used a mac to create a verse and instead it was just a group of talented, passionate artists taking what they had and creating stuff right out of dreams or imagination.
You never disappoint, sir, and I am a big fan.
I might have some of those launchers for you, I sent a huge(huge) zip lock of them off in the last pass a box on ST6, :(
-
Hey now, this looks to be interesting. Is that a Stargate? On the front page.
-
Very cool, that can be used for a number of different universes. I love your generators on page 2 also.
-
Looks great man! This will look awesome with your other dioramas!
-
excellent work!
-
Very cool! Can I put it in my fish tank?
-
Wow, that is gorgeous. Look for it on the fp soon.
-
Holy fish sticks Batman! That is awesome Dan! You have really poured some love into this display. The Chap Mai Pirate works perfectly for a statue and everything you have sculpted and painted makes this look phenominal. Cool thing is I have that Narnia broken table thing too.
-
That is AWESOMEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Really gorgeous work here. On the fp.
-
Wow. This is awesome. Excellent paint deco.
-
great paint job
-
Uh, wow. I like it. Back on the front page.
-
Awesome!
-
Holy [expletive deleted]! This new dio is AWESOME. Do you have any painting tutorials?
-
My son just recently became interested in Indy and we've been watching all the movies lately. When I saw this, even though an original work, it brought back memories of the wonder I had as a kid watching these awesome adventures of Dr. Jones!
Phenomenal sculpt, build, and color palette choices. You've got a fan here, that's for sure!
-
Thanks guys!
I do not have any painting tutorials prepared, but I have been asked a few times today about how the paintwork on this was done so I might have to whip something up (probably a video).
-
EPIC! :D
-
where did the heads come from on the pole/post ?

-
Amazing!
-
Excellent work !!!
-
Just an awesome set piece here Dan. My comments are on the front page.
I think I like reading your stories almost as much as seeing your custom work. You really ought to create a diary type novel for this Adventure Team. I would love to read more stories! Kind of like a Raiders of the Lost Ark in Space dealing with all of our favorite genres.
-
Nice piece and write up, Dan! I really love that
Latest throne, though. The integration of the shields just make it shine for me.
With so many pieces, how long did that project take to assemble?
-
Wow, love that altar, and the throne too - dang!

-
Wow Dan the new throne is execellent but that altar is brillant .
Ron
-
WOW! That throne is Bad Ass! The alter is really well done as well.
-
Impressive!
Do you mind telling us what materials did you used for this?
-
Spectre,
Bizarre and excellent is my reaction. This looks more like a sculpture than a diorama. Not the usual subject matter for this forum and a breath of fresh air. Great images too.
-
That is crazy cool stuff, Dan!

Amazing statues! I like how you repurposed the pirates and other Chap Mei figures. Your technique for painting and weathering these figures is outstanding.
-
Due to the issue with Photobucket and 3rd Party Hosting, I am moving all of my customs to the new Facebook page I created for them (link in first post).
-
I have finally added the last custom figure that needed to be photographed to "The Spectreverse", a Facebook page ( https://www.facebook.com/Spectreverse/ ) devoted to my custom Universe's galleries!
There are still 11 custom vehicles that need to be photographed but I need to make a larger area to photograph them in, which I will do this weekend.
There are still several write-ups that need to be rewritten as they were lost to forum server changes over the years, but they will be redone in time. The stories are still in my head, I just need to type them all out again.
Please stop by, check out over 20 years worth of creations and please give the page a "Like" if you can.
