Hello, welcome to ISY.

If these are your customs I need to move them into one of our busiest boards the custom figures thread. They look great.

Thanks everyone!!

Here's a look at what my next project is going to be!!

I was originally going to use the base as an EPII clone, but have since decided to build it onto a microman frame, and have to wait until it gets in to begin. Super stoked for this one though, I love the way the Jedi Battle Lord's armor looks.

You have got alot of work there. That sniper commander is pretty awesome!

Thanks! That was one of the first ones that I've ever done, a few years back!

While I'm waiting for the materials to get in to do the Jedi Battle Lord, I decided to make one of the Sith Warriors from The "Hope" and "Deceived" trailers for SWTOR.

I'm using the 'GI Joe Wallace "Ripcord" Weems' body, and sculpting the armor using screenshots of the trailers. THe only bad thing is, they never give a super clear view.

Very impressive. I believe you have outdone yourself. I am going to put in a request for larger pics. I don't want to miss any detail.
Have you considered hosting your pictures?

Thanks everyone!   ;D

And I've never really thought about hosting, I wouldn't even be sure where the best place to do it would be.

Here's some close up pictures of the Sith Warrior, I had forgotten to do the armor on the hands the first time around.

Thanks for all the feedback everybody!! Means a lot!

I was looking at the Malgus, and I decided I wanted the original forearms on him. After I switched them I realized the armor wasn't quite black, so I repainted the figure so it would match better, and also made a hood.

Was finally able to start my new project, the Jedi Battlelord!

Just a few initial sculpts, have to wait for it to dry and then I'll be able to clean them up and finish the rest of the body armor, then hopefully paint soon!

A smuggler based off of the 'Old Republic' game. Making figures from that series is probably my favorite, just so different from the Star Wars I grew up with!

Title: Jedi Battlelord Version 2
Post by: kelcken on February 03, 2013, 01:49:48 PM
Thanks everyone!!

I hope to do one after the smuggler from the trailer, and actually make it look like him, I just felt like doing a quick custom!

Here's a version 2 of the Battlelord. A new head, sanded down and smoothed out a lot of the armor, and gave him a new paint job. I really disliked the metallic green.

I believe this to be the final result on the battlelord, one more head swap.

Title: Hunt for Grievous Arc Troopers
Post by: kelcken on May 08, 2013, 12:42:20 PM
I bought one of the Original Clone Wars "Hunt for Grievous" packs because it looked pretty cool.

(http://i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/kelcken/TRUHunt4Grievous1_zps0f794578.jpg) (http://s1302.photobucket.com/user/kelcken/media/TRUHunt4Grievous1_zps0f794578.jpg.html)

Unfortunately, after I got it I realized the three blue ARC Troopers have terrible articulation; swivel neck, elbows and legs, and ball jointed shoulders. That's it.

(http://i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/kelcken/IMG_1714_zps1f801f30.jpg) (http://s1302.photobucket.com/user/kelcken/media/IMG_1714_zps1f801f30.jpg.html)

So I decided to use the to make new ARC Troopers using newer clone trooper bodies, with better articulation.

(http://i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/kelcken/IMG_1715_zps0aa042c5.jpg) (http://s1302.photobucket.com/user/kelcken/media/IMG_1715_zps0aa042c5.jpg.html)
(http://i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/kelcken/IMG_1717_zpsdc8ea343.jpg) (http://s1302.photobucket.com/user/kelcken/media/IMG_1717_zpsdc8ea343.jpg.html)

I want to recreate the battlepack entirely, and get one of the gunships that these ARC's used.

Also, a new update on the Jedi Battlelord; I've hade so many updates on it, but this is just a simple blackwash because I didn't like how the armor looked brand new and shiny.

(http://i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/kelcken/IMG_1718_zps71cfbb58.jpg) (http://s1302.photobucket.com/user/kelcken/media/IMG_1718_zps71cfbb58.jpg.html)

Thanks everyone!

I've decided to start working on a new part of the EU, and make a part of the Grand Army of the Republic that is mostly unknown: Rostu's Renegades.

If you've followed any of the novel's Nick Rostu is from Huraan Kal, the same planet as Mace Windu. Mace went to his home planet in search of Jedi Council Member Depa Billaba. After his mission there was complete, Nick left the planet and ended up joining the Republic Army, as Mace had given him rank in the army, which was ratified by the Senate.

Anywho, this line (that I will update from time to time) will be of his unit, compromised of both clone troopers and other species.

First off, we have Nick Rostu!

Next is Captain D'Sheer!
(http://i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/kelcken/IMG_1859_zps7241dcce.jpg) (http://s1302.photobucket.com/user/kelcken/media/IMG_1859_zps7241dcce.jpg.html)

This one is mostly just a repaint of a GI Joe Retaliation figure, but I like the way it turned out.

What do you guys think of the weathering on my clones? I think it looks good, but I would love some feedback. I really just dislike when clones or any sort of front lines trooper has little to no wear on their armor. It seems unlikely that they would have pristine armor.

Anyways, here are my Hunt for Greivous clones so far, let me know what you think!

Fordo and a Heavy Gunner (I disliked the gun that it had from the pack, so I switched)
(http://i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/kelcken/IMG_1959_zps32ca3d89.jpg) (http://s1302.photobucket.com/user/kelcken/media/IMG_1959_zps32ca3d89.jpg.html)

Well, If you want that shirtless look, I'd say try a Resolute Storm Shadow.  Here is a link. http://www.yojoe.com/action/10/stormshadow38.shtml

As for the head, You may need to sculpt that.

Yeah, those emitter guards are pretty sweet. Are you wanting the saber to light up, or just wanting to sculpt the hilt to look like the pic, or both?

Title: Re: Kelcken's customs
Post by: kelcken on June 16, 2013, 08:55:11 AM
Both would be great, Although I'm more focused on having it visually accurate!

I think Having it light up would be pretty sweet, especially since he has a tethered lightsaber.
Title: Re: Kelcken's customs
Post by: The Willoughbian on June 16, 2013, 10:57:14 AM
To get it to light up, start here. http://www.superbrightleds.com/cat/through-hole/filter/Color,White,136,4627:LED_Package,3mm,18,166
Get the really bright ones and make sure you get 3mm (T-1) size.
These all are 3volt LEDs, which means that they will run on two AA or AAA batteries. You can also use two 1.5volt watch batteries. Don't run to much power to your LEDs, or you will burn them up.

Then read this tutorial. http://www.fighting118th.com/forum/showthread.php?t=52
It will give you a good introduction to LEDs if you need it.

This should get you started. It will be up to you, if you want to completely sculpt a new hilt, or modify one from your fodder bin. The first step, however, is getting the right LEDs.

Hey all! It's been a while. Summer's been crazy, I've been all over the country! Home for school now though, so back to customizing!

After a particularly devastating firefight, Major Nick Rostu has opted for hired help: A deadly trio of mercenaries, outfitted in advanced armor and stealth equipment.

Thanks for the FP!

Going to try and do at least three new customs a week, to help me improve! Second of the week is Jedi Knight Skazine Trexo! Pretty much just a repaint of a Prince Xizor!

Very nice group of customs you have posted recently! I too love Doc from Rogue Squadron, great figure. It is great that you want to create more figures to increase your skill set. I have one thought to offer, don't set a goal of 3 figures a week. Wanting to achieve this could make you rush your art, that will in turn decrease the quality and enjoyment of your time. In fact going at a slower pace and applying your paint in multiple thin layers will increase the quality as well. There are several techniques you can learn or if you have questions feel free to ask. Every one here is willing to help others. By the way, what brand/type of paints do you use?

that's a good point on not setting a goal. I use various brands of acrylic paints, generally either Anita's or apple barrel colors

Recently read the KotOR comics, and I absolutely loved them, especially the characters. So I've decided to make some of them!

Dr. Demagol, Mandalorian Scientist

Nice work, the Republic Soldier has to be my favorite of the lot. Everything from the armor to the weapons are spot on. for the helmet, try putting on more light coats of paint and see if that helps, if not you could always weather it or give it battle damage.

Thanks guys!!

So here's another new Mandalorian. (I've been a little obsessed with them lately.  ::) )

Obsidian- Special Forces
(http://i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/kelcken/ee3edeba459a3ab3b9ce7f84a2c55aa6_zps229b7b84.jpg)

Recon gear
(http://i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/kelcken/a2eb3c8de8eaf3c220fb9b65b3f3c8f2_zpsaac5680a.jpg)

Heavy Assault gear
(http://i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/kelcken/b4fab8f15731d4183e99d7de51d2d6d9_zpsb7682e7b.jpg)

I'm trying to find a way to get the straps on the back of The assault armor to be held in place, but haven't found one yet.

Also, I had picked up some of the rare earth magnets. I used them in the gauntlet, the back of the armor and sword sheath, and on the leg pouches.

A new custom Jarael from the KotOR comic series. I kind of want to do a custom head sculpt, but I need to get some new sculpting stuff to do that!

She uses Exar Kun's lightsaber in the last few comic, but I don't exactly want to spend $100+ on a figure just to have its lightsaber. So I made a custom one using some extra Episode 3 Anakin lightsabers (I have 6 or 7 extra :p).I like the way it turned out!

Can anyone recommend a good base to start from, or do you think I should just do a lot of sculpt work?

Hey, I was just looking through your thread here. Good job! I see you were thinking of making an Odan-Urr figure. I can save you some time if you are interested I actually already sculpted Odan-Urr's species head. I have some cast plastic copies of it in stock now. If you are interested in one PM me.

I completely redid the Jedi Battlelord. The first one was sloppy and quite frankly disappointing! Here's an image for reference.

Tore off all of the armor and started from the ground up. More accurate sculpt (with my own flair, of course.) and fresh paint.
Sculpted all of the armor and belt pieces this time around, and it took forever to get things close to symmetrical.

Thanks guys! I really enjoyed those last few.

This next one is probably one of my better done ones, even though I've only worked on it for a few hours. I had been wanting to make this for a while, just never had any inspiration until I saw some figures that would be perfect!

May I present, Gran Jedi Master Maks Leem from "Yoda: Dark Rendezvous." She was on a mission escorting master Yoda to Vjun before she was killed by Asajj Ventress.

Thanks guys!

And the recipe:
Mawhonics head and feet (good call, Sjefke)
AOTC Aayla Secura torso
TCW Mace Windu legs and robe (the edition with the Jango Fett helmet, it has better articulation)
Movie Heroes Queen Amidala outer robe and arms (the arms were originally only swivel, so I grabbed some ball joint ones out of my extras and shaped them together)

Sorry, I don't! But basically I cut each section of arm in complimentary angles to each other, and then glued them together and hid the seem with some clay/paint.

Nice Bo Kataan.  What scale is she and what base figure did you use?  From the shape of the legs, I would have said MU X-23 sculpt, but there are screws below her butt  :-X( down, you dirty minded animals ! ).  The wrists are also ball jointed and the elbows look double hinged, wile the knees look like simple ball joits.  I cant place it.

.

I-am-Boba-Fett nailed it, it is a microman Catwoman body, 1:18 scale. The wrists are actually just swivel, but the hands have a hinge in them. It comes with about 10 interchangeable hands. Knees are also double hinged, with a swivel up by the hip. You can usually find microman action figures at around $20 on eBay, they are my favorite to use because they have great articulation.

Both figure are made using Takara Microman bases, which have outstanding articulation.

I sculpted or made all of the armor and clothing.

On Odan-Urr, the head and both feet are completely sculpted.

I used a Darth Bane head on Exar Kun, and sculpted the hair on. This was my first attempt at sculpting hair, and I think it turned out well.

Let me know what you think!!

Thanks for the compliments!

The saber is from two episode 3 Anakin sabers. I trimmed the hilts down and glued them together, then sculpted a little on top of them so that they would fit in the microman hands(they are a little oversized.)

Tamer, you should definitely look into them. They're great!

And thanks DarthSinister, means a lot! That was my first attempt at sculpting a head, glad that you like it.  :)

Here's a Jacen Solo I made a while back, I just forgot to post him.

The head is one of the comic pack Luke heads, with a little bit of extra hair sculpted on. I plan on either buying a Jacen solo and using that head, or trying to sculpt a better one.
The body was a Winter Soldier, and the cape is from the Concept Art Ki-Adi-Mundi.

This is what I imagined the GAG (Galactic Alliance  Guard) uniform looking like when I read the Legacy of the Force series. Jacen was the head of the Guard, and eventually started wearing the uniform instead of traditional Jedi robes. Hope you like him!

Thanks for all of the kind words! It means a lot.

Unfortunately, I've been out of town for around a month, and was not able to do anything. Since I've gotten back, however, I do have a small update!

Exar Kun's saber hilts were too small to stay in the microman hands, so I sculpted around the originals! They use magnets to connect together, to the blades, and the to the belt. I did not use any reference images, just sculpted what I thought would look good. Let me know what you think!

It's good to be back.

Anyways, here's a new Darth Malgus I made. He's going to a part of a SWTOR line I'm working on.

I sculpted everything except for the shoulders, chestpiece, belt, and knees. The head was purchased from I-am-Boba-Fett.

Sculpted on a microman body, I cannot recommend them enough for other customizers. The articulation is phenomenal, and the frame is small enough that you can almost sculpt from a blank slate.

Let me know what you think!

Malgus looks great! What is this microman body you're endorsing? I may be in the minority, but I haven't heard of this before.

It's made by Takara, but I don't believe they are manufactured anymore. You can find them on eBay for around $15-$30. Kind of expensive, but well worth the price.

They usually come with 10 interchangeable hands, and the articulation is incredible. You can get some crazy good poses with a little bit of patience and some balancing!

And thanks for the compliments, I appreciate it!

Thanks for the shout out for where you got the Darth Malgus no mask resin cast head. Your figure looks cool. Nice use of a Microman body in it.

Happy New Year everyone!

It has been over four years since I've been here! That's wild.

My apologies for the extended absence. I moved states, and all of my stuff was packed up in boxes. I hadn't thought of it in years, up until I found it a few weeks ago!

Now that that's out of the way, here%u2019s Kao Cen Darach!

He's one of my favorite character designs, and it was a ton of fun working on him. Let me know what you think!

This was the last thing left as a teaser, and it's good to finally have him finished.

I haven't done anything like this in almost 4 years, so I definitely have a lot of ground to recover, but all things considered I'm thrilled with how he turned out!

He%u2019s built onto a Takara Microman frame, using a Don Cheadle War Machine head, and a random robe I had in my parts bag.

I hand sculpted all of the body armor onto the frame, horns onto the head, made magnetic hand guards that can be swapped to any of the 6 hands for each side, and sculpted a saber hilt around a paper clip.

Saber hilt is attached magnetically to both the belt and the blade.

I painted it using Testor%u2019s enamel paints(going to need some touch ups, I'd never done enamels before), and all of the sculpting was done with Aves Fixit Sculpt epoxy. After painting, I realized how much more sanding work and clean up I could have done on the armor, which I'll be more mindful of in the future!

Here are some work in progress pictures for reference!

I'm glad to be back, and have lots more in store!

And thank you, Sjefke! I want to do a couple more of them at some point, in a few different colors, so hopefully they get better over time!
