Guys,
For years I have been tossing around the attempt at building a comprehensive Christmas wishbook library from 1978-1985 covering the Star Wars offerings. This has pr oven a tough task thus far, I have had some fantastic help From SW forums member AndyR over the years but I need your help.
What I need are either hard copies of the old wish books put out by Sears, JC Penny, Montgomery Wards, and so forth. Just the pages showcasing SW or high quality scans of the full pages.
I will keep compiling what I have been building but it's only 25% complete. This will be a fun way to look back and to chronicle some of the offerings evolutions as some ads showed prototype offerings rather than production ready pieces.
I will eventually post a list of where we are, right now I am adding to a database and will keep you guys posted.

Here is an example sized to fit of what I am looking for, This is from the 1978 Montgomery Wards catalog

I will see what I can do. I would love to get my hands on some large, high rez images of the Monkey Wards or Sears ESB offerings. I got to circle my wants for my mom and that walker got circled every year, but I never got one. Boy this brings back happy memories as I did get some of the things I circled.
-
You can get your hands on those ;) Once i get this stared just copy the pic on a SD card and take it over to Office Max of a similar stor eand boom, instant memories.

You can bet I will be making one poster size!

I better get to the 80s then so you can see the Walker in it's glorious ad form

Dang I love that picture. I do believe that is the exact same page I looked longingly at for hours back in the day.
-
Here's another one for you guys then, I know this one will make a certain person drool
I really love these old ads for the same reason as you stated BR, I spent countless hours pouring over these

updated with listed images,
I need anything not listed ;)

I asked my mother if she had any since she's a huge packrat about weird things, and I thought for SURE this would be something she'd have kept. Unfortunately, she did not. I'm always on the lookout!
-
Thanks for checking, These are not the easiest to find since they were not meant to be kept. Hunting is fun, but it's getting frustrating
-
My grandparents are pack-rats too...
2 years ago we went to their house and looked at all the models my dad and I put together, Dioramas we had built with war models... even some old crap I built out of broke toys and junk that gave me more fun than lots of other stuff they bought.
They even still had some of the old catalogs from when I was little.... pages all marked up and circling what I wanted...
None of them were in too good shape, marked up and discolored pages and all.
If we get back there any time soon, I will try to remember to take some pics of anything noteworthy...
Or anything at all still there...
-
I would love to see some pics of those military dios, Dana. That was a former passion of mine.
-
Mine too... something to do with my Dad that we liked ....
The last model I did was 20+ years ago...
-
Still looking for more,
Found this one, I forgot about this add, till I spotted it the other day
-
hey Sarge i found this while i was surfing the web, thought of you when i saw it
-
TY,
That particular ad is from the 1981 Sears Christmas Catalog,
-
Some of these toys look better than what we have available today!
-
I am loving this project. I remember that Sears ad.
-
Really enjoying seeing new finds to this thread too.
-
Here's another to keep you guys interested

This is another page I remember fondly salivating over as a younger lad. I have both of those model kits on the bottom of that page.
-
I don't have them yet but I am after the hanger dio, I am picky I want a mint sealed box.
-
Wow, good luck on that. I'm sure you know that there were two releases of these kits and figure that you probably want the first one.
-
I too would probably been dazed at that page, Clint, and would've studied it all over. These are some pretty cool toys, for example the Slave 1 which I didn't know was a real ship.
-
Yep, I normally just go after the first releases of items
-
Man, I loved that ESB shot. I remember circling that very same walker in my wishbook!
-
You loved walkers way back then, Shawn? I see that has lasted very long! :o

I never did get a walker as a kid. I never did get over it, doubt I ever will. I wonder if they will bury me with em?
-
In your case, buddy, I believe that a walker-shaped casket would be in order.

LOL. That would rock. Still, don't like to get caught up in death talk, I plan on being around to get many a walker before I get to that!
-
I could see a walker casket design, with automated legs and the music of Darth Vader playing as it walked, lol.
-
i know all this talk is morbid but if you dont and to be buried you could always get cremated and the ashes put into a AT-AT or better still the BAT-AT
-
LOL, another good point. Ok Sarge, we have taken this off track far enough, back to the great wishbook pics. I can't wait to see more of em.
-
I didn't see this picture posted anywhere else so I thought I'd put it here. Not sure if a Kenner catalog picture is what you had in mind here, Recon, so feel free to move or delete as you see fit.
-
Guys, I've just caught up with you here...
Seeing those old catalogue images really, really makes me want to play Star Wars again....Those were magic days!
-
here's an odd one for the Play-Do set
-
Man, this stuff is so freaking cool. Talk about a trip down memory lane...
