I found myself tingly with excitement this evening!  Rumor was, details regarding CV would be revealed tonight, and I was going to be sure to broadcast it loud and clear the moment it was!  As usual, Steve Sansweet was escorted into the room by the 501st Garrison.  The Garrison had some  new additions to their ranks, including a Cold Weather Commander Rex!  I wasn't able to snap off a pic of him just yet, but I'll be sure to do my best to get one tomorrow!

Steve began by revealing details of an event that WILL be coming to Chicagoland and the Midwest in the near future... Star Wars in Concert!  It begins it's US tour on 10/1 in Southern California, and according to Mr. Sansweet, there WILl be several Chicago and Midwestern dates for this event!  We got to view a screening of it, and it's a symphony combined with movie footage!  Produced by George Perloff and narrated by Anthony Daniels himself, this looks to be a fantastic time!  Check out StarWarsInConcert.com for more details!

Coming soon to all gaming platforms is The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes!  The animators behind the movie and television show are the same animators who have worked on the game!  More than that, the same voice actors who voice the show also voice the game!  Look for this on October 16 of this year!

For those of you who LOVED The Force Unleashed, you will want to pick up The Ultimate Sith Edition of the same game!  Featuring the 2 new levels that were available for download earlier this year, and now a 3rd downloadable level, it ALSO features an exclusive level never before available for this game...on HOTH!  Yes, you heard it correct, Hoth!  And this time, The Apprentice is after none other than Luke Skywalker!  Game footage even showed the Apprentice killing Wampas!  I think I may have to pick this game up again...

The Clone Wars Season 1 will be available in it's entirety in November of 2009 on DVD and Blu-Ray.

Tom Kane, the voice actor for Yoda in The Clone Wars, was also on hand to chat with the audience.  Mr. Kane's been doing voice work for Lucasfilm and Lucasarts for about 12 years now, in fact!  He was actually slated to do a voiceover for an Imperial officer and was horsing around speaking like Yoda for a game years ago when the director overheard it and asked him to do it again!  Mr. Kane obliged, and the next he knew he was cast to be the voice of Yoda since Frank Oz was unavailable.  Not only that, but that voice that narrates the beginning of each episode of The Clone Wars? Yup, you guessed it: Tom Kane!  A master of voices, he's a very talented individual!

I'll be hitting again tomorrow, pursuing interviews and trying to get more pics, so stay tuned for all of that and my final wrap up of Chicago Comic Con!

Other than the TIE Fighter Pilot mini bust, there wasn't much else from GG I found I wanted or had the money for.  I did see some of the SDCC stuff, including the Stormtrooper Commander and Luke with X-Wing ladder ($25 was the cheapest), but nothing that was reasonable enough to pick up.

Day 4 started off early.  I arrived at 9am, and the vendors were still opening up their booths.  Today was going to be a great day as I was due to interview Billy Dee Williams, Dave Barclay, and Maria de Aragon!  I took a stroll through the vendors area as well as the autograph area, looking for anything new or exciting.  Unfortunately, I did not.  It was time for my interview with Billy Dee, and all I can say is, he is definitely cool as the other side of the pillow!  He gladly answered the questions posed by the ISY family, and posed for a picture with yours truly!  This was definitely the highlight of my Star Wars experience! After that, I sat in for the Star Wars Round Table with Peter Mayhew, Jerome Blake, Jeremy Bulloch, Maria de Aragon, Anthony Forrest, and Dave Barclay.  These characters had a great time, cracking jokes, poking fun at each other, and answering questions from fans.  It was very entertaining to sit in.  After that, I joined Dave Barclay in his autograph booth to ask a few questions.  I truly had no idea Mr. Barclay had worked on so many projects, including Yoda in ESB when Frank Oz was unable to continue work due to other projects, work on Labrynth, Little Shop of Horrors, and Who Framed Roger Rabbit, among others.  He was a lot of fun to talk to, and I could have done so for hours!  Maria de Aragon was next up, and very entertaining to speak to!

As for my overall opinion of the Chicago Comic Con?  Wizard needs to do some serious CPR on this event.  The addition of so many celebrities, both new and old, was fun to see, but the rest of the content was seriously lacking.  No Marvel or DC?  Seriously?  Once again, Gentle Giant, Hasbro, and Sideshow were MIA.  Mattel and View Askew were not in attendance either.  The lack of these greats was definitely felt and commented upon by all in attendance.
The economic downturn could definitely be felt in the vendor's alley.  I'm not sure if it was economic, or if the vendors had lost all sense of worth, but there were very few true deals to be had this year.  Even if I had taken $500 with me, I would have returned with money left over.  There were very few items I was searching for, and what I did find was way too overpriced.  The amount of Gentle Giant and Sideshow items was much less than in the past as well.  Not exactly sure why, but there were items I had expected to find that I did not see at all, and was very surprised by it.  The presentations on Saturday and Sunday were fun to attend, and that gave me more to do than just wander the same aisles over and over again.  Overall, I'd have to give the show a C-.  I sincerely hope that they do a better job of reeling in the big companies if they're going to continue to call this the Chicago Comic Con.

Nice job Pat. Wish there would have been a few bigger players there, but you sure did hit the bigger players that were there. I look forward to reading those interviews.

So I attended a Star Wars Round Table yesterday with Peter Mayhew, Jerome Blake, Jeremy Bulloch, Dave Barclay, Maria de Aragon, and Anthony Forrest.  It was highly entertaining and funny, and here are some of the tidbits I garnered from it....

Yoda was filmed 30 years ago on 8/9!
Maria de Aragon was supposed to do pick up shots of Anthony Daniels, as she was due to be the stand in for some of his scenes, was waiting on Mark Hammil to finish some scenes and was offered Greedo while she was waiting!  Many don't know, Greedo was played by her AND Paul Blake!  The shots filmed of JUST Greed were the scenes filmed with Maria, while the ones shot with Harrison Ford were Paul Blake!  Maria never shot a scene with Ford!

Dave Barclay, puppeteer in charge of Yoda in ESB and Jabba and Yoda in ROTJ, was asked how he felt about puppets vs. CGI.  Many of them all said that they were both tools in the box, but there was no substitute for a puppet that can interact with a human better than a green screen.  Mr. Barclay was not impressed with the CGI in the remakes of Episode IV (where Jabba met with Han Solo in the hangarbay), and prefers both puppets and CGI in unison.

Jerome Blake, who played several characters in the Prequels, questions how and when to use CGI animations.  He also let us in on a little factoid I was unaware of...the waterfall next to the Queen's Palace in TPM was salt!  He also feels that it was a major mistake to use CG instead of actual characters in these movies.  To him, CG is almost to perfect, no human element that can't be duplicated.

When asked why they felt Star Wars was so successful, Mr. Forrest stated that the whole movie felt like a collaboration of all, like an independent film, and everyone wanted to to the best to make this film successful.

Jeremy Bulloch stated that costumes back during the OT were very heavy and cumbersome, not nearly as nice as they're made today.  Anthony Forrest chimed in saying his leg armor was held together by duck tape and the legs were very rigid and didn't move well, no real articulation!

Peter Mayhew let us in on the voice of Chewbacca: San Diego Brown Bear + Dog= Chewbacca!

All of the guests agreed that they all feel like a family among their own.  Whenever they get together, they have a great time as if they're all related!

When asked about Harrison Ford, Peter Mayhew had this to say:  Harrison, you had to get to know well.  They continue to have a very nice relationship.  VERY professional, very dedicated to his craft.  Carrie Fisher was a motormouth, and Mark Hammil has grown up nicely, maturing well, and is as nice now as he was then!

A question was posed on the differences between the 3 directors in the Star Wars universe, and here's what they said...
Lucas was very technical, what he said went, no questions asked.
Kirschner was a showy director: he showed you what he wanted, then he let you go and let you make the part your own!
Marquand was an actor himself, so he wanted everyone out of costume ASAP, do shots quickly so as not to take too much toll on the actors.

It was a lot of fun to sit in on this panel!  If you get the chance, I recommend you do so as well!
