Wow Ron, that's a nother nice diorama! And it's even 1:12 scale? The palm trees look great! Makes me desperately want to start my 1:18 scale Scarif diorama now! You found a very nice, cheap, but effective way to build these palm trees! I like everything about it! Thanks for quickly sharing the updates!

- Philipp

Thanks heaps Philipp and my pleasure mate. For your 1:18 scale Scarif dio instead of cardboard tube I used real sticks and wrapped the string around it and did the palm leaves the same way as this one. The only thing you you'll need to do is drill holes at the top so you can insert the thin wire.

Looking good Ron. Let me go share this update before my time leaves me.

Thanks heaps Shawn.

Hi All,

More work done to the SW diorama for the comp.

I had to take of 15cm as I ran out of room on the top shelves to put it on so it will be going on one of the lower levels.

I completed the palm trees and applied the sand using plaster of Paris and fine sand. Plaster 60%/Sand 40% and applied to the base and once dry I painted it with Vallejo's Iraqui sand and then gave it a wash with GW AGRAX Earthshade.

Next up will be dry brushing over the wash with Vallejo's Iraqui sand and then making the bushes and plants around the palms.

Awesome progress Ron! As far as I remember it never happened before that you had to cut a part of your diorama. I would love to see your diorama shelves. Would you share pictures of them?
It’s great to see the incredibly fast progress of your projects!

Hi All,

On the last legs of the SW dio for the comp.

Troopers - are from Bandai and have been painted and weathered using Vallejo Paints.

Base - I have added grass to the base using static grass mixed with some water and PVA glue.
Next up will be the plants.

Hi All,

SW dio base is completed and I just have to wait for the ok the show my out door pics.

The main part of the plants are Woodland Scenics Olive Green Foliage, I also used plastic fish tank plants and gave them a light wash.  I also used grass tufts and small bush clumps which I picked up from my local gaming store.

Hi All,

The dio is now completed for the comp which is happening of at https://www.facebook.com/groups/StarWarsACustom1.12Galaxy/?ref=nf_target&fref=nf. The comp runs until the 10-12-2018 then the judges will pick the top three. If you want to see some great Star Wars custom and diorama's head over and check out the awesome work.

Recipe

Shoretroopers - are from Bandai and are built straight out of the box, I have left them articulated so the can repositioned around the diorama. Once built the figures were painted and weathered using Vallejo Paints and Pastel chalks.

Base - is high density foam and the landing pad section was done by scribing lines into the foam and then painting it. The sand is done by mixing 70% spakfilla and 30% sand with some water and applying it to the base. Once the mix was dry it was then painted and weathered using Vallejo Paints and Pastel chalks.

The cargo containers were made using 1;35 scale containers that I had left over from another project. The fuel containers were made using PVC plumbers connections and deodorant lids and the hoses are old extension cord cable. Once built these were painted and weathered using Vallejo Paints and Pastel chalks.

The palm trees were made using card board tube and then I wrapped string around them and then I glued tissue paper to them with watered down PVA glue. The palm leaves were down by spraying A4 paper with green paint and then I cut lengths out and then cut the leaves out using scissors.
The palm trunk and palm leaves were painted with Vallejo paints and then given washes of watered down paint to get the colours I wanted.

The large bushes are from Woodland Scenics and are their Olive Green Foliage set. The plants are plastic plants I picked up from the local pet shop and they were given a wash of medium green to tone the colours down. The grass tufts and small clumps of bushes I picked up from my local gaming shop.
