For a Ton more pics, check out my blog: http://packratstudios.blogspot.com/2012/03/star-wars-galen-marek-force-unleashed.html (http://packratstudios.blogspot.com/2012/03/star-wars-galen-marek-force-unleashed.html)

The figure is comprised of:

Head: Gi Joe Grunt (good angry looking face...Im not really a fan of the Galen Marek heads hasbro has out)
Torso: Marvel Universe Cyclops
Waist Down: Prince of Persia figure
Upper Arms: Marvel Universe Cyclops
Lower Arms: Shirtless Kit Fisto
Hands: Quinlan Vos
Belt:Quinlan Vos - Cut down
Leg Pouch: fodder
Extra Portrait: Gi Joe Grunt, Gi Joe Resolute Zartan hood, and 2 Darth Vader Capes

The base is made from a metal ring, with attached electric bolts from an unleashed Sidious. Storm Troopers attach to the ring via magnets in the back. It works, extremely well.

Let me know what you think!

That Force energy ring is just insane!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the way the Stormtroopers fit throughout it.

Definitely one of the coolest customs I've ever seen and I've seen a lot.

I agree, heck anything with wire could turn into forced lightning like this. All you have to do is bend it which way you want!

What an exceptionally brilliant custom! I particularly like the cloak as it fits in perfectly and gives great texture to the ensemble.

Really stunning result!

Really outstanding dio!  I love how well the force lightning fits and what a nice set piece this is.  The cloak, in particular, hangs very well on the figure and makes this a standout set of Starkiller variations.  Nice work!

This is amazing! Such a great design and the magnets and wire ring are great ideas! The presentation on this one is off the charts! One of the greatest customs ever! Very well done man! Also my son, who is 8, is a huge Starkiller fan, he flipped out when I showed him this!

Post by: PackRatStudios on April 23, 2012, 07:38:15 AM
Figure has been modified to gain hip articulation and double jointed knees, giving him "super articulation".  Fully customized cape and skirt as well, help add to this figures Vintage Esq style.  Figure comes with light saber and Sith Energy bolt swappable hand.  The figure was given a full repaint for amazing detail

Since Hasbro is holding off on the rest of the Retaliation figures, I thought I would make some of my own versions of some of my favorite cobra baddies, in Retaliation/Movie Form!

This Croc Master comes with 2 (TWO!) Massive Crocs, and he features a Croc Handling Harness, so they dont rip his arms off!

Very well done Joe figs... gotta love that Croc-Master... I had come across a set of boxing gloves from a Hallmark Mohammed Ali Christmas ornament & sent them to another customizin' friend of mine who was doin' a BigBoa custom... if ya ever come by 1 of those, he says they are a VAST improvement over any other 1:18th scale boxing gloves (he said they were super easy to mod & the details on the leather & lacing is perfect)

I’ve been wanting to do an Ares ever since I picked up Mcfarlanes Palantides Conan figure.  Loved his helmet.  I figured that I would create a real world/movie concept version of Ares, the god of war, as he might appear in an avengers movie!

Two figures this week.  First off we have IRON CROSS.  Iron Cross is a baddie from the Invaders Comic Series…he’s a German Bad Guy!

I was going through Alex Ross’ art, specifically his run on the Invaders and saw Iron Cross, and just new I had to drop what other projects I was doing and make him!  I did him in a Movie Concept version of what he might look like in Captain America, powered with the Cube’s energy, and Agent of Hydra!

In 1915, after the start of World War One, Allied forces in North America were working on a special project, called Weapon X.  The British and the French had a facility located in Northern Canada, working on creating a sort of super soldier, who would be expandable, and a superior weapon in this time of World War, where the weapons technology of the western empire were at a heightened pace.

Their Methods were not of a respectable nature, and would have been fround upon by the medical and scientific minds at that time.  This facility and its work were of a top secret nature.  Working from Victor Frankenstein’s previous work, this lab was taking the dead, and reanimating them, bringing them back to life, but also giving them the added strength and abilities to turn them into the weapons they were created to be.

One of the super soldiers who was created in this facility, was code named the Wolverine, due to his ferocity and aggression.  He was trained as an assassin and let loose into Germany.  His whereabouts are unknown.

I worked on this figure on an off for 5 months.  Starting at the end of January this year, and finishing at the beginning of July.  I did a bunch of other figures during that time too, helped not get too bogged down with one project.

Please take a moment and compare my modified/repainted Malgus to Hasbro's.  The figure was a great try, and with some added work, I turned him into something much, much better!  Hasbro did a great job bringing this character into toy form, it just needed to be tweaked a bit to bring out its potential.

Darth Malgus was made using the existing Malgus figure, but adding the Waist of a ROC Cobra Trooper for the Hip articulation.  The upper legs were totally resculpted.  Also, I added Hands from a SnakeEyes figure that has swivel articulation.  I added the armor from Darth Malgus Hands to the snake eyes hands.  Alternate heads were created from casts of a Marvel Universe IceMan.

Might I inquire the origin of the left arm?

Really cool custom, even coming from an absolutely awful movie.  The design of the realistic He-Man was pretty good and you've done an excellent job of mirroring it here.   Did the headsculpt come from the Rocky series from NECA?  Thought I saw some of those at a TRU or someplace recently...

I just want to take a moment and say Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. And, if you will allow me to share (via my faith and worldview) this is one of the most special times of the year, at least to me. I am truly thankful to God above for His grace, mercy and salvation. He has richly blessed my life. I have the blessing of an amazing wife, beautiful children, and a loving family.  I am also thankful that I live in this great nation. I hope you have a chance to take a moment today and look at your life and reflect on how fortunate you are. I also want to make a statement to the ISYs in general that even though we don't all know each other personally and face-to-face, I am thankful that in our hobby we have a common place to share our creations with one another. Happy Thanksgiving enjoy some turkey!!!

I used the Neca Crysis Nano-suit figure and added lots of bits and fodder. I used a modified TMNT Chrome Dome head and Wings as well. Figure has a sheath on his back for his swords and has magnets in his hands for attachable blades or claws. Topped it off with a concrete display base (from Matrix' Morpheus)

The Shredder is Shredding it. Man I love this figure. I have a three and three quarter inch nano suit fig. I may have to make a mini version to fight my Arashikage. There is no reason the foot and the Arashikage cannot interact. What do you think Johnathan? Also how did you make all the blades are they'd ulpted? Just great work all in all.

I've been watching Spiderman the Animated series lately, and realized that there are a lot of Spiderman Villians that have yet to be made in the 6 inch Spiderman classics line and or Marvel Legends line, so I decided to give tombstone a good ol Re-hash! I didn't go for the Military Pants and Jack Boots version of him, but more with an updated version in Dark Jeans and Motorcycle boots. I think he looks pretty bad A and tough as nails.

TMNT Metal Head

fter getting the new Metalhead figure I was quite disappointed with the shoulder articulation, just cut joints! BOoooo I took a Iron Man figure and swapped in his shoulder joints and hollowed out Metalhead's shoulder pad doohickys and attached them. Full repaint!

Figure comes with an array of Magnetic attachments as well:

His Hand
Flame Burst (from McQuarrie Concept Boba Fett)
Saw Blade
Gripper Claw
Blaster

Also, extra add on kit for your TMNT Donny including a headset and remote for Metalhead!

Ok cool. I already begun building my fig last night and am pretty stoked. You fed into my ninja series a new idea. I feel lucky I grabbed on of those crysis figs when they were 5 bucks. I ended up taking the blades off a junky old TMNT original shredder fig for mine. I hope to finish building him tonight to get some pics. I am already pretty excited for him.

Spiderman vs Venom Set

Spiderman & Venom together again!!! Spiderman, who comes with two heads, two lengths of bendable webbing, a Camera, And Magnetic feet!  Spiderman comes with a sculpted Todd Mcfarlane Head and a modern Paola Rivera esc head!

VENOM has been given super articulation, combining all the good parts from the different venom figures from the Spiderman Classics line.  He also comes with two heads as well!  One, which is indeffinetly 90's! and another that is a custom sculpt I did for fun.  The 90's head (open mouth) comes with a magnetic Tongue and can be posed coming out either side of his mouth!

The Third part of this set is the custom Alley Diorama for Spiderman and Venom to battle it out in!  This Alley features a Metal Fence for Spiderman to stick to, a Functional Street light which is also metal for Spiderman to stick to as well!!  Props to Jin Saotome!  I based my dio off of his he did last year…adding my own touches here and there.

Oh man!  As a a huge fan of your friendly neighborhood webslinger, this is THE best dio I've seen including Spider-Man.

Great idea using the office organizer screen as fencing and the light pole  from a golf club; can't even tell if one didn't know in advance.

Absolutely loving this!

Usagi Yojimbo

Usagi Yojimbo needed an update, especially to go with these new nick turtles! He was built from a Nickelodeon Foot Clan Soldier. I cut the legs and arms off and added new ball jointed knees and elbows! Fully Sculpted Tunic and Arm and Leg Straps! Head, Hands and Feet come from a 2004 TMNT Usagi.

Full figure was given a total repaint and he comes outfitted with two blades and a Bladded Staff (just like the vintage Usagi Yojimbo Figure!) And Display Base! Check the bay link to see more pics!

Krang’s Android 2.0

Krang’s Android Body for the new TMNT line was a bit small…not quite his walker, and not quite his android body, but it was still fun.  I wanted to make something a little bit bigger…more like the Android Body I had when I was a kid!

This Android Body was built from a NFL Cleatus Robot with Avatar Mech Arms, and Zoids parts for the Shoulder armor.  Feet came off some robot, modified them to fit onto the Cleatus’ existing feet.  Head is built from a Sigma Six Duke Helmet and a Bionicle ‘things’ face, the head has a red LED in it, switch on the back of the neck.    Chest compartment is finished on the inside (cant see from pics) but, there is a seat for Krang, diamond plate walls, and a computer monitor /control station on the back wall.  The Hatch opens and closes (came from some various toy.??? Haven’t a clue what)

Guns attach via Magnets to Shoulders.  (Guns come from a General Grevious Bike)

SLASH

Started off as a Ralph. His shell front has been given more scratches, cuts and dings, his shell back has been re sculpted, for that more snapping turtle look. For the head, the mouth was dremeled out and teeth sculpted in, bandanna moved to the side of his head and resculpted eye (used a sunk in airsoft BB for his large eye) Spikes added to his elbow and knee pads, blades on his fists and sculpt wraps, added finger nails (claws) as well. Feet are completely resculpted, from 3 toes to 2 clawed toes! Then for some final details, to make him even more different from the other turtles...I added bumps all over his skin, head and shell

On to the accessories:

Battle Ax, Gnarly Sword, MACE!, Grenade (because the original slash has a grenade on his belt!), and snap on Knuckle Spikes!
Also, I threw in a display base for good measure!

Enjoy!

Animated SUPER Shredder

This figure was just sort of a fun idea I had, and he also goes well with the new Nick turtles!

I took a "The Batman" Bane figure, popped off his head and removed all of his hoses. Filled in the Hose holes and armored him up! His Shoulder Armor is built from Bionicle parts, as are his Shredder Fist Blades! His armor on his shins come from my Zoids Fodder. Fist/wrist straps are sculpt and his head is scratch built from: Some random figures face, Sculpt helmet, and Bionicle Blade segments.

Came out really cool/fun I think, and looks factory next to the TMNTs!

Wow, what a great update. All of them are just flawless in execution and detail. Your Usagi has me wondering how awesome a Jaxxon would be by you.

I actually thought Bane Shredder before reading your description. That Krang Android is such a wide range of lines for parts, but works some seamlessly together. Man, the paint work is just phenomenal and among the best I have seen too. You have to be pretty pleased.

You are gonna make someone TMNT Year. Trust me these will be on the front page. We have got to get back on CAFN just to talk about this update. I doubt Chad would let me get a word in edgewise.

It wasn't easy...but it wasn't extremely hard.  Hollowing out arms and legs and ankles to fit in existing joints.  I used Vader knee joints for the knees, and since they are black...NO PAINT RUB!  Indian Jones Shia LeBOUF arms (Black Leather Jacket Version) for the elbows...again...Black so no paint rub.  For the Ankles I used GI Joe/ Star wars ankle joints.

This is really a thing of beauty. I can't believe you are going to sell it. I'd be hard pressed to let go if it.

Thanks Guys!  This is one, I dont want to sell...but alas, Cash is King...(especially with the birth of my son and the wife moving from her job to a stay at home mom position)  ;)  I have a slight reserve on it...so if it doesn't reach it, I keep it.  And will figure out a sweet display for it in my shop.

I am sorry, but this is just too cool not to front page again. I wonder if he ended up selling this? Wow what a great work of art.

I am thinking perhaps next year I want to do a podcast on the best custom figures of the year, not that I don't think all the work here is great, but this is definitely one that would make the list.

RED HOOD – a - rama

First up, Classic Red Hood:
I got commissioned to redo the Red Hood figure I did in 2011.  Here is the figure I did in 2011:

And Here is the Commission figure I just finished for the customer:

Classic Red Hood
(http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DvAOAz87NhM/UUHqSleGtlI/AAAAAAAAExA/2f0FgGAN9ZM/s1600/225409_557155137652181_200707153_n.jpg)

Base figure is a DC Universe Mr Terrific.  Head is sculpt by me (this time I cast it!), Pant legs Sculpt, Gloves come from a Jonah Hex Quinten figure, boot tread added to the feet as well.

Next, Movie Concept Red Hood:

While doing this figure/ and waiting for epoxy to dry and paint to dry I worked on another Red Hood, but a Movie Concept Red Hood this time.  For this figure I started with a DC Universe Superboy, Added a Batman Dark Knight torso, Belt from a DC Direct Long Halloween Batman with Plasticard Belt Buckle, Gloves from DC U. Jonah Hex, Boots from the Batman Dark Knight figure, straps added for glove and boot details, the straps kind of have a Kevlar texture.  Holsters are from my fodder bin, and they are attached the the thighs of the figure.  I sculpted the belts going up the the waist, so that the holsters don’t hinder any of the figures articulation.

His Head is obviously from Iron Man.  I shaved it down, cut the front off and re-sculpting, and then I scribed in the Red Hoods iconic mask lines.  I wanted to keep the eyes and the ear sections of the iron man head inplace, because I think they add to the “Movie” concept genre’ I was aiming for!

The Sleeve cuffs come from a Mcfarlane Terminator figure, sculpt to blend them in.   The SuperBoy figure has these elastic cuffs and I hated em, so that needed to be fixed!

Now on to the extras:

Red Hood comes with a plethora of accessories including a Bike with mounted Chain fed miniguns!  Huzz!

(2) holsterable pistols
(2) sub-machine guns
(2) night stick /tazer combos

The Bike is a 1:12 scale dicast piece, had decals and the words Ninja on the back.  I took those off with some nail polish and gave it a black wash over spray to dirty it up a little bit (it was so clean looking)  Mini guns are mounted via screws into the side panel/fender of the bike.  The mini guns come from Iron Man 2 WarMachine.

This Dio features two display options, Han Solo’s Carbonite on display or The Carbonite block thawing.  The Thawing Block is mounted to the back wall, and the other can sit right on top of it!

The dio was built from a plywood base and a plywood backer wall.   I built it up with Pink Foam, and coated it in Plaster.  To give the plaster some protection, I covered it in white glue (thanks Tankster!).  Once the White Glue hardened I spray painted it bright yellow, then went about adding shading using an airbrush, I did various washes and clear coats throughout as well.  Lastly I hit it wish some drybrushing.

The Dio features 2 LEDS in the base that light up through the grates on the floor below Han, and there is 1 LED behind the mounted Clear Red “Thawing” Carbonite block.  See a vid of that LED in action here:

Kyle Katarn – the Vintage Collection:

I wanted to update Kyle a little bit more, so he looks like he came right out of the Vintage Collection.  I gave him more articulation in his legs (using a bespin Luke) and articulated ankles (random Boots)

The light effects on this are over the top too. Wow, so glad this is ROTJ or I would be doomed.

MASSIVE update from PackRatStudios!  If you follow me on FaceBook you have been hearing and seeing me tease this “Massive” Sith Line I have been working on, and I have finally finished!  WHEW! I think this is the largest line/ebay push I have ever done.  My Sith Line consists of 19 custom action figures put into 15 auctions!  This line took Months of planning , building and painting!

Since there are so many figures, I’ve limited myself to sharing 3 images per figure or figure set.  For more pics check out my auctions or my Facebook.  Also, if you have any questions about recipe’s let me know, I don’t have time to post all recipe’s just yet, and as always let me know what you think!

Vader’s Fist:
After the explosion of the 2nd Death Star, what was left of the Imperial Forces created a Mech Squadron called, "VADERS FIST", suposably piloted by Darth Vader via remote (but commands through Holo Tech)... This was to stike fear into the rebel alliance!  The imperial forces didn't know the Rebels knew Vader had indeed died... that fateful day.

wow, great update. That's a lot to take in. Love all of them, did you gender bend Darth Wyyrlock? lol The LED lighting effect is beyond cool as are the parts, sculpting, and paint apps you used. Where'd the helmet from the sith warlock come from? I'll probably be throwing some bids down on some of these.

I haven't a clue where the sith warlock's mask came from...Im thinking mayyybe a Mcfarlane monsters set???? but I am not sure, in my fodder for a long time, and probably got it in an ebay lot, so I havent a clue!  Thanks!!

Not really, just kind of found that mask, and thought, this would look killer on a sith!  lol.  Sith Juggernaught does use the top half of a crysis figure, bottom half gi joe.  Head is custom built from all kinds of crap!

Thanks!

Head is from Savage Opress and MU Cable.  I chopped Cable's head off at the brow, ten I did the same for savage, I had to also split Savage's Crown in half to fit on Cables head.  After that, a lot of sculpting to blend the pieces.

Thanks everybody for all the comments.  Vader's Fist just came out of fodder!  I had my Holo vader's head after doing my "Vader's Last Stand figure" and decided to do a mech with a HoLO vader head...the squad just came together after that.

I almost guessed Cable but the little eye thing he has I couldn't remember if it was sculpted or painted so I went with punisher. It works well man!

I love the array of characters here, but the Bane and Nihilus definitely stand out to me.  The Nihilus looks particularly impressive, more so because of the plastic cloak instead of soft goods.  I like how you were able to get this to come out.

Marvel Select's new Venom figure is by far the best venom we have seen in a long time, especially because he came with so many extras! I decided to take the Madness add on and create a Venom the Madness figure that really lives up to the comics, and the toybiz figure of the 90s.

I used a Marvel Select Ultimate Venom (the large one) as the base. I then cut off the ball joint necks off the new venom's madness accessory, attached them to the Ultimate venom's shoulder's and back. I used armature wire and hot glue to get them into the height and position I wanted them, I then sculpted them, blending the texture into the body. The Main head (I used one of the alternates from the new MS venom) needed a ball joint *the Ultimate venom's head was just a cut joint. I cut a neck/ball joint off of a LOTR Urik-Hai figure glued it on, and re-sculpted.

The figure features 8 arms. I used the Add ons from the new venom as well as some older venom arms I had in my fodder box. I attached the ball joints to the shoulders (does not hinder articulation, since shoulders are so large) these arms come from the new venom, as do the smaller arms that plug into the forearms. On his back he has to ball jointed arms that attach via peg and magnet.

Painted semi-gloss black, and drybrushed dark blue/grey

Madripoor Wolverine and Concept Silver Samurai
(http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/1/3/7/5/9/4/2/webimg/675816420_o.jpg)

Im sure most, if not all of us have seen the trailer shots of the Silver Samurai from this Summers The Wolverine. So far, I am not impressed, it seems like it might be a large mech suit or some sort of robot? Don’t know for sureyet, but I wanted to create a Silver Samurai figure that combines some new tech with that old world samurai we are used to.  Also, the fact that it seems as though we are only getting 4 inch, 5 points of articulation Wolverine figures this summer from Hasbro, kicked my pants into action to make this figure!  And I think Wolverine has some of the coolest foes!

My Silver Samurai figure stands a whopping 7.5 inches tall, to the tips of his horns! Fully articulated, the Pectoral/Chest joints work perfect for sword handling! The sword features an effect add on, to give this silver samurai his energy burst!

Figure was built with a Crysis Nano Suit figure as the base, with lots of fodder, including some Spawn Samurai Wars bits. Head was built from a heavily modified Chrome Dome (I KNOW, its perfect for Silver Samurai!) lower face is from Savage Dragon. The Sword and effect from fodder bin, haven't a clue who or where they are from.

Now to Wolverine, Wolverine is in his Black Jumpsuit, aka: Madripoor Wolverine! With real STEEL Claws to boot!

This Wolverine was built from a Wolverine figure's torso and down to the knees, arms from a logan figure, fists from a DCU figure, and lower legs are heavily modified (sculpt to beef up, and cut down for height) ML Namor legs.  Wolverine Stands at about 5.5 inches tall.  Claws are Sail Sewing Needles (Jin Saotome’s idea)

Hmmm, great work on these figures.  Really impressive.  The only problem I see is that the Terminator appears to have thrown this match. I wonder what sort of game those Terminators could be up to?  Oh, I know, how about they are stalling while another Terminator goes back in time to kill this Predator's mother...or something.  Whatever the situation, hopefully it involves armored mechs, acid and fire...

Wow, now this is one cool set up. Kind of what we have all just come to expect as normal from Pack Rat Studios.

Time to get this and your ebay link on the front page.

Casey Jones
(http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/1/3/7/5/9/4/2/webimg/709873181_o.jpg?nc=749)
I wanted to do a grittier version of Casey Jones, a more Comic Book/Realistic feel to the character.  Casey features a custom head sculpt and shirt sculpt.  He was built with the frame off of a Neca Army of Two figure.  I utilized the army of two figures Arms, Neck and Torso.  Arms had to be resculpted fully at the shoulders to fill in the armor peg holes.  Chest is 100% sculpt. Waist, upper legs, and shoes come from a Savage Dragon.  The upper legs had to be chopped and resculpted.  Knees and Lower Legs come from a Wolverine figure.

Casey’s head was crafted using the Army of Two helmet as a base, and resculpted over.  Rubbery Hair was added from another figure (don’t remember who), and straps sculpted on top.  Casey comes with 4 weapons.  Two hockey sticks, 1 golf club and a hand carved, wooden baseball bat!   The hockey sticks and or golf club can go into his scabbard on his back (courtesy of Leo).

That is amazing!  The details are spot-on: the mask looks perfect, with just the right amount of hair waving out from under it.  I love his weapon accessories...is the baseball bat made from real wood?  Certainly looks like it (and if it isn't, that makes it maybe even more impressive).

Good show!
