Title: Celebration Europe II - Recap video!
Post by: Mr. Black on November 22, 2012, 05:24:39 AM
I can't believe the first Celebration Europe (CE) has been 5 years ago already. Time flies as fast like a Rebel fleet in hyperspace :D

But in 2013 Celebration Europe II will be held in Essen, Germany! I'm super excited for this and will definitely attend. It's only ninety miles from my home, so it's very likely I will be driving to and from, instead of booking a hotel room. I'm seriously considering attending all three days at that ;)

I'd like to know who of my fellow European SW fans is going as well. I know there are a lot of European Yarders and it'd be sweet to meet up and get all geeky and stuff!

More info at: http://www.starwarscelebration.eu/

MTFBWY!

:D

UPDATE 10/01/2013:
Tickets will be up for sale as of January 16: http://www.starwarscelebration.eu/en/Buy-Tickets/

VIP Tickets will be available in a limited number and will cost €500.

It'd be fun to set up and maintain a list of who's going. Just copy and paste the list in your reply and add your name and country :)

Going to CE-II:

I would love to go to Europe and this. It would be cool for Chad and I to podcast at this. I am sure Chad will go with me! ;D

That would be awesome, Shawn. Would make for a great follow up to your CVI reports!

To tell you the truth, early this year I was actually planning out a trip to Florida, just to get to CVI. But things got in the way, yadda yadda yadda.... Real shame as I was looking forward to that a lot.

I only found out about CE-II this week, though!

Ah man I would love to go to this but my holiday is sorted for next year already.

I went to the first CE and had an absolute blast, even my wife enjoyed it a bit!

Essen is about an hour away from my place...that's very tempting.

Yeah, although CE in London was awesome, I think Essen is much more of a central location. People from Germany, Belgium, Austria, parts of France could easily go by car.

I have to say, I would love to go! but I seriously doubt I could make this happen. Hey Lucas Film, send me and I will head up a diorama or custom action figure workshop!
Title: Re: Celebration Europe II - Hotel booked!
Post by: Mr. Black on March 20, 2013, 02:59:05 PM
Yay, finally booked my hotel room! If anyone's interested, I'm staying at the Park Hotel in Essen. It's very close to the convention center and it's a 17-room hotel.

Are any fellow Yarders staying there as well? Because although I did book the last available room there, I'm still a bit undecided whether I should cancel this one (which is free of charge) and book a room at the more luxurious Bredeney hotel. The Bredeney hotel is only a little bit more expensive.

Remco I sure wish I could get over there. Glad to hear someone is going. Take lots of pics!

We could even create a gallery of what you run into once you get back and get time to wind down.

I sure will, Tamer  ;D

Got a message from booking.com last week. The Park Hotel was overbooked, an oversight on their account. But they resolved the issue in a professional manner and I'm now staying at the Ruhr Hotel, also closeby the venue. It's a bit more expensive, but booking.com will compensate for that. Textbook example of how things should be resolved :)

Wow, that is pretty good Remco. Glad to hear you found out before you got there and that its already resolved.

Hey guys, haven't been around much lately. Most of it due to home improvement and garden work, as some of my FB friends will probably know.

Anyway, I almost forgot to book my ticket to CE2  ::) Remedied that a few days ago and it turns out I won't be going solo, after all. I got in touch with a guy from Chicago named Craig, who was also going by himself. We pm'ed a bit and now we'll be sharing a hotel room and attending the full three days together. Guess what? Craig is one of the two brothers that made the Hasrbo first prize winning Carbon Freeze Room back in 2009, which got displayed at C5! :D

Just received the latest newsletter and man, I'm very excited! Exclusive artwork has been confirmed, a 30th. Ann. screening of RotJ and an exclusive screening of AotC 3D as well! Despite the troubled rep of the PT, there are some awesome sequences in AotC. But seeing the Endor Speeder Bike chase on the big screen again... woohoo!

And I know some will definitely like this: Hasbro will bring their exclusive SDCC Black Series Boba Fett and Han in carbonite as well ;)

That is great news. Someone might be my only hope to get this. Wohoooo!

Post by: Mr. Black on June 11, 2013, 04:11:44 AM
There's more info on the Ink Fusion Star Wars Tattoo festival, which takes place at CE2. I have two SW inspired tattoo bands on my upper arms (my daughters' names in Aurebesh), but I've always been tinkering with the idea of expanding them.

I'll definitely try and get some info from Shane Turgeon (author of the renowned book The Force in the Flesh) and Marc Draven and who knows, I might even end up getting some ink done in Essen!

Hey guys I just got a nice invite from Arnie and Marjorie over at SW Action News (just an awesome collecting podcast by the way) and they are trying to get a Collecting Track Showcase started. Here is the email:

Showcase your unique Star Wars collectibles at Celebration Europe 2!

Have an awesome vintage item?  Maybe a really cool limited edition item?  We want to see it!  Bring your Star Wars collectible to the Collecting Track room and show it off!  Items need to be small enough to fit into a standard counter height display case and they will be locked up while on display.  And while you’re at CE2, make sure to stop by and view these truly amazing items.

If you have something you'd like to share, please e-mail marjorie@swactionnews.com for details!

Remco, I would think they would love to have one of your SW Customs in there to display. I wasn't sure if Ray or Jules or Jay was going either, but there folks are very well respected and just good people to talk too. They love the hobby period.

Sounds good Remco. I also saw where I think it was jedinews that was trying to get some neat event with toysrus off the ground too. I think I put it on our Facebook Page.

This might be fun Remco!

Arnie sends us word about the following CE2 Event, "At Star Wars Celebration Europe 2 the most rare items won't be on the show floor, they'll only be available AFTER DARK. The CE2 Collecting Track is excited to announce Collecting After Dark, a Star Wars Collector's Swap Meet where fans from across the globe can come to trade their Star Wars goods. Bring your items to sell or trade or add some new stuff to your collection. From new to vintage, rare prototypes and more, you never know what you'll find After Dark! So join us Saturday, July 27, 11:00 PM at the Atlantic Congress Hotel, just half a mile from the convention center. The Swap Meet at Star Wars Celebration VI was the spot for collectors to obtain new gems, so don't miss out in Collecting After Dark at CE2!

Well, I sent Marjorie an email and she promptly replied. I get to dislay some of my customs at their showcase!  :D And of course I get to meet her which is just as cool, because SWAN is indeed a fun and cool podcast to listen to.

Title: Re: Celebration Europe II - Looking back
Post by: Mr. Black on July 30, 2013, 04:28:12 AM
Back from a great second European Celebration. Next time in Amsterdam, please  ;D

Just kidding, Essen was just a great location. Easy to get to, lots of parking space at the convention center, fast moving lines (if there were any) and a wide variety of visitors from all kinds of countries. I had to speak English, German, Dutch and even a petit peu Français ;)

So, recap time then.

On Friday me and Craig (from Chicago, builder of the C-V award winning Carbon Freeze Room diorama) went straight to the Hasbro booth and stood in line for a whopping 10 minutes to get our Black Series Boba/Han packs. Then we went on to Mintinbox.net and over the course of the day collected their exclusive bounty hunter art card set. These are really beautiful and I will post pics of each card sometime this week. Furthermore we bought way too much stuff on the side  ;D

In the evening we went to see RotJ in the Gruga park next to the convention center. What a great experience! The cheers when the big SW logo came into view, the reaction of the crowd when the Rancor died, the "it's a trap!" line, the booing when Hayden appeared as a Force ghost.... brilliant stuff!

On Saturday we mostly visited panels. Warwick Davis.... wow, what a great little show master. Please, have him host the Academy Awards next year! Anthony Daniels, Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni were all very entertaining to listen to. I managed to find Marjorie and Arnie from SWActionNews and had my seven custom figures displatyed for the remainder of the celebration. At the end of the day I interviewed Markus from StarConstrux and we then both watched the pretty awesome docu Lost Secrets of Empire. Very impressive stuff.

On Sunday I mostly sat in a chair and in the afternoon I recorded short videos and took quite a few pics. At the end of the day I went to the collector's panel to score three free StarTots. I also bought two art prints from Spencer L. Brinckerhoff III. He is working on a three part set of prints, based on Vader quotes. Very cool and I will recieve ANH and Empire in a few weeks. Jedi hasn't been finished yet, but I will definitely order that one too.

All in all, I had an awesome time and some really cool discussion with Craig about Celebrations (he's a six time veteran) and the differences between the US, Europe and the Netherlands in particular.

The number of Slave Leias was a bit disappointing, though  ;) Well, at least that guy in Slave Leia bikini I saw at CE1 in London in 2007 wasn't there.... Eeeowww...
