Hello Again! Both Spooky and I began our Hoth dioramas simultaneously, so you may see some similarities, as we basically fed off each other along the way. I'm not quite finished, but will share a few pics for now, which give a sense of it:
(http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/DIORAMAS/WestwardView.jpg) (http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/DIORAMAS/WampaLighting.jpg) (http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/DIORAMAS/ThroughTheGlass.jpg) (http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/DIORAMAS/OverHanWestward.jpg) (http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/DIORAMAS/TransomRight.jpg) (http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/DIORAMAS/TransomCables2.jpg) (http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/DIORAMAS/Cave-In-1.jpg) (http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/DIORAMAS/SouthPassageWide.jpg) (http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/DIORAMAS/CMDCentrePreview.jpg) (http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/DIORAMAS/NewMats.jpg) (http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/DIORAMAS/TransomPreview.jpg) (http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/Custom%20Figures/K-3PDead.jpg) (http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/Custom%20Figures/TorynFarr2.jpg) (http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/DIORAMAS/SheildDoors.jpg) (http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/DIORAMAS/Dusk.jpg)(http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/DIORAMAS/ChewieSad.jpg)(http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/Lights5.jpg) (http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/WidescreenInvasion.jpg) (http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/VaderInvades2.jpg) (http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/Snowtroops2.jpg)
And I'm still finishing the surface Battle of Hoth, but here's what I have so far.....

With all the excitement over your Dagobah dio, I think this one was lost in the shuffle.
This is just as awesome! I think you covered every scene in the base here! Just awesome!
I especially love the Bacta Tank scene. The lights in 2-1B's eye sockets are over the top!
Thanks for posting!
-
Excellent set-up! I can see a lot of time and effort and hard work was put into creating all the fine details. It's inspiring for me to step up my game. :)
-
Wow, and I thought the Degobah one was over the top.
I am a Battle of Hoth Nut. Plain and simple this is just awesome.
-
Thank you so much for sharing this with us. It is now gracing our front page.
I am just awe inspired right now.
-
yup, this is the best Hoth dio I've seen, I got a lot of inspiration from this one.
-
My lord, that is a stunning creation to behold. My hats off to you, sir!
-
Thanks guys! I still have a few days of work left, then I'll post the "final" pictures. And I forgot to post the images of one of the three turntables that are incorporated into the dio. These were taken when the dio was only half done, so some elements around the turntable are not "final", but you get the idea.....
(http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/DIORAMAS/FalconTurntable.gif) (http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/DIORAMAS/SnowtrooperCavern.gif) (http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/DIORAMAS/VaderCavernSmall.gif)
-
Kriffin hell! they look awsome mate !
-
wow breath taking i thought i was looking at still shots from esb the detail is amazing i love the wampa scene !
-
Wow, love the animated gif style these are in too. You could re-enact the whole Battle of Hoth!
This looks wonderful.
-
damn you dio builds have some serious skills! I wish I had a) the skills to make something close to these and b) the room to have them. The wife only allows my collection in my man cave and I really don't have too much more room! My hat is off to you and Spooky.... truely awsome stuff!
-
Awesome job!!! :o at dr sn1
-
WOW very very impressive work indeed and the details are just amazing.
Ron
-
Droidworld, this is breathtaking! the amount of detail is just a pleasure to behold and has to be one of the highlights of the forum.
It is very hard to point out particular details as the whole thing is so meticulous in its construction. The consoles in the control room must have taken ages, I love the gantry as well. What I wouldn't give to have the skill and patience to put this together!
I'd love to include it in our forthcoming Dioramas Showcase, so could you PM me with permission to include your images. If you have any more images you'd like to add I'd love to include them.
Jules
-
AMAZING work!!! I am speechless, so many favorit shots and scenes, the details, lights... outstanding!!
-
Thank you guys! Well I've started taking some photos of the finished diorama, and now THAT's going to be more work than expected! I don't have a wide angle lens on my cheap camera, so I have to stitch photos together. A friend is coming over with a much better camera, but here we go......
Here is a panoramic view of the lower section, showing almost the entire hanger....
And here is the turntable, this time with some late to the meeting rebels:
Now here are some similar pics to an update I did a while ago, but with most of the elements complete this time.....

I'll be posting finished pics over the next few days, so keep your eyes peeled!
-
Breathtaking work indeed and the turntable is an amazing idea well done indeed.
Ron
-
Thanks Hemble! Here is one more pic of the entirety, before I go to bed.....
-
Yep that last pic is brillant, totally love the double layer you have achieved well done indeed.
Ron
-
again: breathtaking work!! I am totally blown away. MY fave shots are the two with the tilted angles, they are great.
-
Amazing work my friend! These latest photos are mind blowing!
-
Wow... this is nothing short of breathtaking. Beautifully and expertly detailed, and jeez so many rooms, the whole thing must be huge. ;D
-
that is utterly superb!
-
I am at a loss to describe this. Breathtaking!
It is also on our front page.
-
Thanks Tamer for the front page honours!!! I've done some GIFs to show the various transitions and set-ups of this Hoth Dio. Again, there is more to come....

-
Wow. Like the gifs.
If you ever do anymore and want to make me one that has a max width of 425 that is the maximum size I can use for the fp news.
-
Oh my those gif's are freakin' sweet! This is so amazing then you see the glow where the doors are open and it just puts it on another level. So many great details you just can't list them all. My hat is off to you for sticking to such an involved project.
-
Thanks so much Tamer and Luke Sprywalker! I added some still images between the gifs. The flashing images all together was a bit irritating. Hope this helps. More images and gifs to come!
-
Awsome job!! I wish I had those skills and if I did my wife would kill me for taking up more space!
I would love to know how you made the gantry over the X-Wing. I would love to have 3 or 4 of those myself!
-

Thanks finn! There is a WIP/how to over at Rebelscum. Here is the link to page 3 where it begins:
http://threads.rebelscum.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=4465006&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=365&fpart=3&vc=1 (http://threads.rebelscum.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=4465006&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=365&fpart=3&vc=1)
Now for some low art/comedy. When trying to decide what to put in a spot in the back of the pull out section, to hide the batteries for the lights and fiber optics, I solicited fellow dio/customizers at Rebelscum for ideas, and we came up with the idea of Princess Leia's flooded chamber's.
Without further adieu, here it is. The scene where our favourite droids discover the thermal heater is blasting, and melting everything, including a hole in the floor! "OH MY GOODNESS!!!"

-
Ha ha, awesome. I never really caught C-3pO's line about her clothes in that scene until recently. Made me laugh.
-
LOL. I always wondered what that might have looked like!
Back on the front page.
I would also like to thank DW for the flashy eyes on my avatar. He knows how to make some nice animated gifs!
-
Hell yeah this is brillant lov ethe details in her room like the photo's the melted snow hole and the wet cloths. Ialso like the heater the painted coils actually look like the would burn you if you touch them.
On a side note do you have a tutorial on the turntables I really like the idea and would like to try it on a dio.
Ron
-

Ron
Ron, I'm not sure what to say about a tutorial for turntables, other than it is trial and error, and you have to build around them, constantly checking that nothing impedes their ability to turn. You want them anchored with a non-slip mat while building, and if you want to, can glue it in place once you have everything around it done. Just make sure the structure around it is solid, and won't settle, and impede movement, especially if you glue it in place. The turntables I use are about eight to ten inches in diameter and make of plastic. They are also $1 from the dollar store, so cheap to play and experiment with! Hope this helps!
-
Looking slick DW! You thought of everything.
-
Helps heaps mate thank you I'll be giving this a go in a future dio and again excepetional work..
Ron
-
Hey DW, nice!!
-
Hey Spooky, thanks! Just had a friend take some HUGE pics. I'm sizing them down, and doing a little Photoshop this time round. (Her camera could get some wide and panorama pics, my cheap camera could not. As well as some nice close shots)
Here are some:

Can't wait to get the new Bespin Han....he will look sooooooo much better in here. We did some South Passage pics, with Han and Leia, but I hate the Han I used, so will re-do those pics in the future.)
-
freaking awesome!! love that outdoor scene... gigantic!!
-
Always great to see what pics you take with your hoth dio, and everytime I'm in awe at all the details.
Ron
-
Me too Stefan and Ron!
Needless to say this is back on our front page. You need to take this beauty to C Six!
-
Wow this diorama blows me away!!
-
Just incredible!!!!!!!!!!!! Love the trench section but it all rocks.
-
Man that looks just like the movie. Unbelievable. :o [at1]
-
Thanks guys! I hope everyone realizes/read that the background is photoshopped in for the outdoor Hoth images. Eventually I will paint a "similar" backdrop, but it won't be photorealistic like the photoshops.
Here is a before and after.....sorry to destroy the illusion!
Have a few more images and gifs I'm working on, but here are a couple more for now....

Thanks again for all the kind words.
-
great job -- especially the transom... I saw your thread on RS a little while back with the WIP and wow it looks like it took you a lot of work!!
this is hands-down one of the best hoth's i've seen.
thanks !!!
-
Mate I for one don't care if there is PS work involved your work is exceptional with or without any PS work.
Ron
-
Mate I for one don't care if there is PS work involved your work is exceptional with or without any PS work.
Ron
I second that, absolutly :)
-
I agree. I like the PS images too. It is like the image HB94 just did of his custom ship in an action pose or Triple SSS with his Bwing. I think it just adds to the whole effect.
-
The fact that your ps elements mesh together so well with the dio elements is a testament to how good your dio looks.
your trench area with the ps elements in the background is just damn convincing and could easily be confused with a frame from the movie.
-

third!

Sweet!

Thanks guys, but as you can see, Spooky is the master of creative PS! I'm more of a cut and paster... ;) ;)
A couple of animated gifs on their way...
-
Here is the Echo Base Command turntable in action:
-
this is so exeptional!!!! you can do a whole photo novell with it!!!
-
Thanks Art DeWhill! Would be a fun project.....perhaps NEXT winter! (Unless some other dio overtakes me!?!)
Here are a couple of other shots of Leia and Rieekan:

-
fantastic shot!!
I just love all things Hoth and Echo Base, Leia's Outfit, Snowtrooper, Walkers... :D
-
Agh! This thing just keeps going! Absolutely incredible, just when I think this set can't get anymore expansive, intricate and utterly impressive. I feel like I should be jealous of your skill... but instead I just find myself just wishing I could play with this thing. ;D ;D ;D
Hopefully Hasbro will take notice of this and release something this big based on your example.
-
I literally could look at this all day long. This is another one of those items I would love to see in person. Back on the front page.
-
I am astounded by the detail in the control panels!
-
This thing just keeps getting better and better!
Great Work DW!
-
THAT IS SOOOOOOOOOOO EPIC :o
-
Thanks guys! I promise I will let up soon, but I still have a bit more with this dio to share....
-
I am finaly getting caught up here as my schedule has been unforgiving, I am in awe of these latest images. PS work is welcomed and I just love these latest 3 or so updates I am seeing at once today. I will be watching ESB again this evening as I have been so inspired by this body of work. I feel like I am in Hoth right now, let me go turn up the AC. OK back, You have captured so many great scenes with this and each one is just like being on set. My helmet is off to you my friend. I could go on all day from start to finish about the extra lenghts you went to that have paid off in the end to be the greatest Hoth diorama we have seen on the web from a customizer. I want it!
-
in the end to be the greatest Hoth diorama we have seen on the web from a customizer. I want it!
???
;)
-
Wow! Thanks Luke Sprywalker; high praise indeed! You never know how these things are going to turn out, and am glad such a talented group like here at ISY, like it.
And no worries Spooky, our Hoth dios are cousins after all!
here's one more pic of a custom "G-3PO" figure I did for the dio.
-
Been reviewing some of the dio's and this one is definitely one of the best.
I love the close in pics. Usually, dio's look great in wide shots, but not so good in closeups. However, yours bears up under the close ups as well.
-
Thanks Jon Dough!
I've gone back to taking a few more pics with my crap camera. I splurged and got the new Bespin Han at a local Comic Scalp Shop, and had to get a couple of South Passage, "true feelings" shots with him.......

one of my favorite scenes in Empire :D great!!

Thanks, me too, Art deWhill!
Here are some more images from my friend's great camera and a little photoshop...

"Impressive.......Most impressive!"
"you have learned much young droidworld-walker" :)
-
Whoa damn, topside Hoth now! And nice job on the practically shot-by-shot recreation of Empire Strikes Back there. ;D
-
Droidworld, this is an epic creation, there is way too much detail for me to know where to begin in my praise.
All I can say is that I have thoroughly enjoyed looking at all of your wonderful images, every one seems to show off a different location within the base! Hoth is possible the hardest location to create, and you have done a superb job recreating the snow and ice.
My favourite image is this one:
(http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/DIORAMAS/IMG_2413.jpg) it just looks so realistic and there is so much action in the shot, plus a great depth of field.
Amazing!
-
I really like the shot with the walker in the background. On the front page.
