Mattel's "Jurassic World" Reel Feel Mosasaurus Review:

Now we will be taking a look at the second largest item in Mattel's "Jurassic World" line, the "Reel Feel" Mosasaurus.

The Mosasaurs was a break out star in the first "Jurassic World" movie and looks to have some decent screen time in the sequel based on the trailer. Hasbro had released a severely undersized and underwhelming Mosasaurus in their "Jurassic World" line 2 years ago so it is great that Mattel has finally done this beast justice (for the most part)!

The Mosasaurus comes in a sturdy cardboard box with several open panels where the consumer can feel the "realistic" skin. The Mosasaurus comes packed without any of its flippers or the last 1/3 of its body attached. These pieces are found inside the box in a separate cardboard compartment underneath the main body of the creature.
The Reel Feel Mosasaurs is MASSIVE once removed from it's box and assembled, coming in at just over 28" long.

The main body of the Mosasaur is made from a heavy, yet soft and flexible vinyl while the lower jaw, flippers and tail are made from plastic and the rear 1/3 of the body containing the tail are made from a heavy, rigid vinyl. The Mosasaur features 5 points of articulation- a hinged jaw and 4 ball hinged flippers. All of the points of articulation function well and have some pretty decent ranges of motion. The paint overall is clean and neat.

The soft vinyl body is the only real downside to this toy. It is so soft that I can squeeze it practically flat in the middle with very little effort. I really wish that the body had been made from the same vinyl as the tail section simply because the creature can use the added heft and firmness. While sitting on a shelf, the softness is not an issue, but as soon as it is picked up it just feels cheap. I am contemplating filling the interior of the body (accessible from the ports where all 4 flippers and tail are attached) with some kind of expanding foam to add some more weight and rigidness to the creature but need to make sure that doing so will not damage the toy.

This creature, soft body aside, is a great deal for something so large for the $29.99 retail price.
