Jules, man... OH MY GOD! You know I'm in!!! #1 - I gotta illustrate my own fan-fic anyway. #2 - that really is one helluva prize!!
-
I can't resist the chance at a Y-Wing. I'm glad I got my writing (prologue) posted when I did. This really pushes me to post the rest.
-
hi guys i'm new here.. :) any suggestion for a cool fan fic i should read? i want to join the contest.

Wow! So many choices.............. what to do?
-
Crow,
Firstly welcome, it's great to see yoi taking part in our competition.
If you go to either the Web Comic or Fan Fiction forums you'll find a wealth of stories, all with wonderful characters to base your custom on.
I look forward to seeing your entry...Best of luck!
Jules
-
My word! I am very impressed with the interest in this competition. I recon we are going to see some fantastic customs...
-
Jules I forgot to ask is the comp for only a figure or can we put them on a dio?
And wraithnine I've alreay set up security measures mate I've stopped feeding my 18 month old son so he's going to be pretty hungry when you come a callin buddy. :)
Ron
-
i better start readin' then. ;D i do hope i could participate!
-
I have ... so many ... GREAT IDEAS!!! And those are just if I stick to my own stories! Let alone if I were to consider illustrating anyone else's fiction! Picking which one to do will be a killer!
-
Jules I forgot to ask is the comp for only a figure or can we put them on a dio?
Good question Ron,
I think that in your case it will put you at an unfair advantage, but I think that everyone is entitled to display their figure on some form of background. So the answer is yes, but the dio should enhance and not overpower the figure.
Jules
-
i better start readin' then. ;D i do hope i could participate!
Crow, you would gain a great deal of Kudos amongst our community by entering....
-
I'm in. I don't think the Zen I made is good enough. I'll have to create something else. DH
-
CloneSniper, I'm glad to see you are taking part. Whoever you create you must include your custom truck in the backgroud. I'm really looking forward to seeing who you come up with.
-
Is this going to be a secret-builder ballot or do we just post our entry in a contest thread?
-
Doc, I want this to be fun, and personally I'd be interested to see people's reactions and comments, so my recommendation is to let customisers post as normal.
-
I'm all for that! I just wanted to be sure before I said anything about my build. Since I'm involved in writing a novel-length fan-fic for the month of Nov, I'm gaining a lot of insight into a bunch of my characters...
-
Since I'm involved in writing a novel-length fan-fic for the month of Nov, I'm gaining a lot of insight into a bunch of my characters...
I hear you, there. It's great to see them evolve into living, breathing beings. Anyway, I have update pictures to post. I completed Major (former Lieutenant) Clank from my book. I also did a custom of the main character, General Erinos.
-
I think I'm the first to post their WIP pics, so let me lead the way by presenting Major Clank, of the 500th Reinforcement Ops Corps. Major Clank was first pushed onto the battlefield as a Lieutenant, battling his way through campaigns as the Defense of Reevus IV, and later fought at the Intergalactic War on Zabrash. It was here that he witnessed the murder of High Lord and Baron Sethon, who was a leader of one of the most powerful bounty hunters guilds since the Death Watch. After his service to the Empire was duely recognized, he was promoted to Major, and put in charge of Eagle Squadron (a merging of the 419th Black Ops, and his old legion, the 500th). The old 500th leaders, Jedi High General Erinos, Commander Flare, Captain Blimey, Acting-Commander Sparky, and Commander Jay of the 419th, were his main target and posted to be shot on sight. The only clones that hadn't betrayed the Empire, at least the ones he knew, were a rag-tag bunch, two clones known as Eiffe and Moss, one a Sergeant, the other a Colonel. After many unsuccessful campaigns of tracking down the runaway Jedi, Lord Vader issued his squad to be broken up, and shoved into the 501st. Without further delay, may I present Major Clank's WIP pics:
(Here's a link to my fan fiction novel, too. http://www.imperialshipyards.net/SMF/index.php?topic=4081.0 )
-
Lookin good USD! I love his back story as well, it's almost as if the story adds to the quality of the custom.
My only criticism (and it's nothing to do with the figure) is that you either need to hold your hand steady, or clean the lens of the camera as the image is very blurred. If it's because you are using a phone camera, beg, steal or borrow a digital camera as it will show all of the detail.
-
Yepper, kinda blurry.
-
My apologies. Yes, it was the camera phone. I ensure all my figures are as great as can be before posting them, lol.
-
Nice looking arf trooper man!
-
Competition Update
WOW! Forum Artist Art De Whill has very kindly donated his wonderful skills to the competition. He will be creating a Digital Painting featuring the winning figure, so remember to take some clear images of your work everyone!!!
If I may say, someone is going to have a very Happy New Year.
Good luck everyone...
-
That is stunning. Art, thank you!!

Competition Update
so remember to take some clear images of your work everyone!!!
In that case, I went over my figure with the second coat today, and to make sure it really shines, I went to Flickr in order to take care of the "blurriness". I hope you guys enjoy Major Clank, Part 2!
Here's a link to my fan fiction novel, as well: http://www.imperialshipyards.net/SMF/index.php?topic=4081.0

sweet. :)

That's a great looking couple of entries so far, guys!
Good job on cleaning up the pics, Dan.
-
Great job, HFK! I love the weathering job given to him.
-
thanks man
-
hannsfartknocker, excellent creation, I love the open face helmet. I'm sure that Beige4 will be delighted in seeing his character come to life.
USD, a very fine figure I love the colour scheme. Well done for reducing the blur though I'd still recommend posting a higher res image just so we can see the detail more clearly. Could you also include a link us to the post on the fan fic forum as I'd love to read all about him.
Jules
-
Sure, here it is: http://www.imperialshipyards.net/SMF/index.php?topic=4081.0
Note: (I'm still in the process of putting up other chapters, for the editing process takes quite awhile. Expect a few more up by the end of the day, lol.)
I'd still recommend posting a higher res image just so we can see the detail more clearly.
I'm working on that. It's tough only having a camera phone, and not a professional camera, lol.
-
Don't worry USD, but see if you know anyone who'll lend you a digital camera, the better the image the better your chance of winning.
-
yay ! i knew that open face thing would work . what head did you use ? damn now everybody know's who im voting for ! ;D
-
woow cool pics!
-
the head is the comic pack wedge antilles
-
OK, here is my entry. It is Dilbun Vont from " Memoirs of a War Profiteer" created by Darth Depressis. DD if you see this I hope you like it. Here is Vont looking for someone, perhaps the person who pilots this ship. He finally decides to try and extract some data from the R5 unit on the ship. Here is the original link http://www.imperialshipyards.net/SMF/index.php?topic=3226.0
-
nice mine doesn't hold a candle to it
-
wow, great looking figure/outfit, CS78, and cool presentation.
-
nice ! cs78 that looks good !
-
Very cool looking! I love that ship!
-
Hell Yea! Depressis should be well chuffed. DD's work has definitely grown on me. should you take the time to read his fiction you will be rewarded, that is if you like dark violence, smeared with lashings of dark violence and Star Wars profanity, like I said, enjoyable stuff!
Snipey, you've done a great job, Dilbun looks mean as hell!
-
Thanks Jules! I'm glad you like it. And I'm glad you created this competition. I didn't read that many of the photo-novels until I started doing my research for this competition. It turned out to be the most fun homework I ever did. I would like to try my hand at it, but I don't know if I have the time. Anyways, I'm glad I have the opportunity to enjoy everyone else's great stories. I don't know if I can wait till New Years to see how this competition turns out. I also can't wait to see all the rest of the entries. I'd like to wish all my fellow Shipyarders a HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!
-
Dang i just saw this im SO starting now
-
Jules, this is open to subjects in the fan-fic and webcomic forums both, right?
Also, is there a cut-off day by when the fan-fic had to have been posted to be eligible for use as inspiration?
-
Doc, I'm not too keen on placing lots of restrictions, as I've said earlier it's supposed to be fun. Saying that I'd find it a bit cheeky if someone posted a couple of short chapters on the Fan-Fic forum then posted a custom here on the same day. I'd prefer it if people created a custom from an existing piece of work that is all.
Cheers,
Jules
-
;D I know what you mean.
I doubt I'll start on my entry until Dec 1, as I'm trying to focus on finishing up this novel (deadline Nov30) first, then cleaning my way into the workbench where I can sit down and work. But I'm planning - oh, yes I am planning my entry.
-
Great looking figure but I would really like to see some pics to showcse that ship. It has been a while since I saw it I believe at the Yak?
-
Sprywalker are you talking about my ship? I am only a member of the Imperial Shipyards. The only other place I show my stuff is on youtube. Here is a link to watch the video of that ship.
-
CS-0078, what base vehicle did you start with on that ship?
-
CS-0078, what base vehicle did you start with on that ship?
I think it is the True Heroes line from ToysRus. It's a blue police van that comes with a police car too. It actually came with a huge laser cannon looking thing on top, but I took it off and put the radar dish in its place.
-
Neat work turning it into a ship!
I'll be getting going on my entry this coming week, once I finish off the novel and relocate my workbench.
-
Hey Guys
I have been busy marching out of my old unit and haven't started my custom yet, the problem I have is that I remember reaidng one of the fanfics that had VOS in it and can't remember which one it is. I just need to find it so I can get my clothing right for the custom I'm doing so if you guys know who it was that would be great.
Ron
-
Ron, you'll probably find its Pat's novel, Light Shines Brightest when Darkness Falls....
-
It amazing how quick Christmas comes. Don't forget to get your entry in Shipyarders.
I know that Y-Wing is one sweet prize!
-
Am working on mine!
-
You know, I'd love to enter something based on my own characters..but how do you pull the figures joints apart without damage to the rest of the figure?
-
Hi All
hangarbay94 - Cheers Jues I'll atke a look.
ScreamingSamuraiStudio - Just use the old boil and pop method that will do the trick.
Ron
-
Wow,
Thanks, Ron
The boil and pop method worked like a charm. So much so, I think I'm almost done. I'll be doing the one figure with a background added to enhance. But when completed do we just post them here on this thread?
-
yep s3 post em here so we can dribble !
-
Glad to see some interest in this contest as the thread has been a bit quiet. I have been working on my entry over the weekend and just have some finishing touches to put on several parts. I should have everything assembled in the next few days and be able to photograph my entry. Ron and tripple S I an glad to see both of you in on this!
-
Well, here is my first jump into customizing figures to suit my evil needs.
Thanks to Hemble for the quick tip on how to get these figures apart. I still haven't quite figured out the waist joint, but I've got it going with the knees and elbows.
Anyway, right into it, I've chosen my own creation, though I don't know if I'm actually eligible since I haven't updated this for about six years or so. But this is Kel Van Dorran, the reluctant Jedi from my story. He's a character who's wanted nothing more than just an ordinary life. A relatively decent jedi with a connection to all creatures, but a die-hard pacifist. He never answered the call to arms for the Clone Wars, and instead remained in the outer territories keeping order among the many civil disputes.
The story picks up minutes after Palpatine's broadcast to announce the formation of the New Galactic Empire and Kel now has the chance to leave the order behind and pick up with his life...that is only if the galaxy has nothing to say about it.
There really aren't any clones in the web-comic..i just needed some stand ins.
The overview:
Kel Van Dorran is made up of three figures. The Arena Showdown Obi-wan (head), Revenge of the Sith Obi-Wan (Torso) And Padawan Obi-Wan (legs)
The figure was merely re-painted to match the figure using a couple of browns and greens. I still have one more pass to do on the figure and it will be just a wash to bring all of the colors together and to mute the shine from the coat of Future I applied to protect the paint from chipping.
I had a little trouble loading up the final pic, but I'll do that later when I get home from work.
-
swweeettt!! ;D
-
looking veeerry nice !!
-
YAY! a great custom Mr. Samurai and a great story to boot! The competition is hotting up!
-
Thanks guys,
I didn't even realize I was the first entry. I think I'm gonna stick the fork in this guy and call him done. I'm not in the same league as the rest of you guys with the figures, but let's see how this does.
I added the cloak and stayed away from the soft goods look. But this is as good as it's going to get I think with this one.

-
Awesome figure..and good to see another entry.
But I'm a little new here and can't find the web-comic..is this guy from another piece of fiction, like a novel or something? Just curious to see the back story on this guy.
-
From the group web novel, Galactic Conflict...
If an artificial intelligence could scoff at ignorance, now would be that moment. Xorbis watched as the sentinels escorted the alien woman, perplexed by his latest master’s failure to comprehend the severity of his actions.
Necro opened his mouth to speak. But, before the sounds of his words escaped his mouth, Xorbis’ external sensors began to detect, on an atomic level, a sudden increase in ion activity. The atmosphere was becoming electrified with plasma. Before the words left Necro’s mouth, Xorbis determined the increase of plasmatic energies to be lethal on a catastrophic level. Before the words left Necro’s mouth, Xorbis teleported away, safe from the destructive power of the female alien prisoner.
Upon materializing safely far from the destructive power of the explosion, Xorbis instantly sensed the long slumbering Guardian awakening, Xorbis then teleported to the chamber of the Guardian.
Deep within the planet, kilometers down, an immense cavern sheltered the Guardian. Created before recorded time, by a race of beings whose name has been forgotten, but whose deeds are the whispered fables of deities. The Guardian was an omnipotent, artificial construct. Controlling all aspects of life down to the sub-atomic level on a now nameless planet. The citizenry did not want. They did not suffer. No crops ever withered, no rivers ever flooded. The Guardian saw to all their needs. The Guardian protected all. And, all sang of the greatness of the Guardian. And, now after eons, the Guardian was beginning to wake. Xorbis was prepared.
Xorbis approached the Guardian and attached itself to the up-link service socket port. For the first time in countless centuries, Xorbis was able to interact with the Guardian.
“X…Or…bis…”? the Guardian spoke.
“Yes, Guardian”? replied Xorbis
“Xorbis…, what… has.. hap..happened”?
“You have been sleeping, Guardian”.
“Sl… sleeping… why…”?
“You became infected when the planet was struck during a meteor shower. Your systems began to decay. You were put in stasis under the notion that you would be re-activated once the diseased systems were purged”.
“There… is n… no… sin…sing…ing. Where are… the children…”?
“The planet has been abandoned, the Zelifakatorians left after the war”.
“W… wa… war, wha…t …is war”?
“The Zelifakatorians engaged in a series of armed conflicts that lasted approximately 1,100 solar cycles, Guardian”.
“Ar…med…conflict”?
“Correct, Guardian”.
“With…who…Xorbis”?
“The Zelifakatorians fought amongst themselves. Guardian”.
“The…them…selves…wh…y”?
“In less then 11 generations after you became dormant, the Zelifakatorian society degenerated to such a state that the culture fragmented and fought each other for the control of the planetary resources”.
“But… why…”?
“It was hoped that your dormant state would be temporary. However, the weather on Zelif soon became unpredictable. There were floods and famine. Without your guidance, Guardian, the Zelifakatorian society was ill-equipped to manage over such an extended time. The Zelifakatorians society soon broke apart into thousands of factions. Each of these factions, in turn, blamed the other factions for all the difficulties that had befallen them. Attempts to re-unify the planet were unsuccessful. Elements from within each of the factions viewed compromise as weakness and betrayal”.
“A biological agent was created by a sect from the south. Its release caused a plague that killed billions, regardless of faction loyalty. Escape became the sole priority of the surviving Zelifakatorians. Tens of millions did manage to escape the planet. However, billions more were left behind. Those left behind fought themselves into extinction. Currently there are no Zelifakatorians residing on the planet of Zelif, Guardian”.
“I… ca…nnot hear any sin…singing…,Xorbis… where are …the children, Xorbis”?
“As I have stated, Guardian, there are now no Zelifakatorians residing on the planet of Zelif. Those that did escape did so over a hundred thousand millennia ago. The Zelifakatorians would be scattered throughout the universe by now, Guardian”.
“Why…did you… wake…me now, Xorbis”?
“I did not awaken you, Guardian. When the Zelifakatorian plague was released, I rerouted power systems and materials from your healing process and used those materials to create a series of Sentinels designed to protect this facility from the chaos that had befallen the Zelifakatorians. This rerouting of resources resulted in the extending of your hibernation significantly. However, the creation of the Sentinels guaranteed your survival and eventual return. And, those were my mandates. I have been waiting for a power source large enough to facilitate your awakening. Above us is an alien of unknown origin who has released an unknown power source into the atmosphere. I surmise this sudden release of a very unique plasma energies has finally awakened you”. “Furthermore, I calculate that a larger intake of this particular plasma energy would bring your entire systems back online. But, we must act immediately. I calculate that if the alien should continue to release the plasma at this current rate much longer, it will destroy itself”.
And with that, the Guardian, with the aid of Xorbis, manipulates kilometers of atoms in a matter of minutes to harvest the explosive plasma energies that are currently being released.
This is my vision of ... "The Guardian"
All of the images below were created by various settings on my camera and different lights. I don't have photoshop or have any idea how to use it. haha
the awakening...

I'm calling this my official entry. I have a few more details I wanted to effect, but given the state of my hand after today's session, I'm calling him good. I *might* be able to add my tweaks by the deadlne - if so, I'll update this post with a new pic or series of pics.
All Fixer's arms work in at least one joint - most of them work in two joints.
base fig - FX-7 (one of the best figs Hasbro ever released)
4 arms - stock FX7 arms with burgandy joints to match body shell
3 arms - FX-7 arms with manipulator hooks cut off and replaced with tips from FX-6 arms (another one of the best figs ever made)
large grasper - FX-6 arm with claw from a Clone Commander
"laser welder" arm - FX-6 arm w/ a few bits trimmed off
-
nice one Doc. Matter of fact, this one would be good to do a fp reminder for the competiton. Just one more week till Xmas!
-
@Luke: this is an outstanding dio/set, just amazing - I absolutly love it.
@Doc: wow, you have built such a classic looking scifi robot, its really wonderful.
-
Hi All
Guys sorry to say I'm going to have to drop out of this comp I just don't have enough time with xmas and preparing to do more dio's for another indy dio comp over at the indycast early in the new year. So good luck guys and can't wait to see all the amazing works.
Ron
-
LE, that was soooo cool!
Like the looks of fixer, doc.
-
Cool Guardian L.E.! Wow, how long did it take you to make that!
-
Nice work, Luke..I mean....REALLY NICE WORK on that dio set. And no photoshop means you actually have some real skills with that camera too. The competition just kicked into something serious now
Awesome droid from you as well, Doc. Nice lines and a clean paint job on yours. I knew I was going to be bounced around and slam dunked in this contest, so I knew you guys were going to rock in this competition.
-

Ok, I sure don't know where to start with all of this. Every entry thus far has been absolutely spectacular, without a doubt. I love seeing all of these fan fictions come to tangible life, and it's funny how so far, most of them have lived up to my ideas.
Luke, I am completely floored. I swear that is precisely what I pictured as The Guardian. You did wonderfully on the use of so many parts, and the camera use was extraordinary! Bravo, my good man. Bravo!

Thanks guys, I am glad some of the writers have chimed in and approve. I was hoping it didn't get too crazy, I had few more things in place but removed them as it would become too much of a diorama. When I made the center part it didn't look quite right because it needed to be contained, it looked odd standing alone. So the back piece is styrofoam packing piece greeblied up a bit. There again I wanted to do more but didn't want to be looked at as too much of a diorama. I just used parts that seemed to make sense for an ancient super computer and try to keep it down to pieces that would accomplish the things written about the "figure." This again is all trash to treasure using free styrofoam, happy meal toys, a few pieces from thrift store for 15 cents ea. and random bits from the fodder bins. There are 2 pieces used from SW toys. One is from a vehicle the other from a playset. Can you find them?
Shawn, I brainstormed this for about 2 hrs in the middle of a pile of fodder that could be held in 3 big walker boxes. Then spent about 2 hrs a day for the last 7 days figuring out detail parts, gluing stuff together, painting, setting up, changing things, drybrushing all the silver, final touches. Then I spent about 4 hrs cleaning up, setting up for pics, and photographing. It was a lot of fun and a very different subject for me.

Ok,I've been looking at those pics again and I just found a piece I recognize that gives me a sense of how BIG this thing is!!
(I spotted the Dr. Lewis claw used as the "small" droid's legs...)
-
holy sh.. L.E that is friggen amazing !!!!!
-
Doc, you are right on the Dr. Lewis claw.
-
Nice to see my idea looks as good in execution as it did in concept! ;D Brendan and I were discussing the use of that claw for that exact purpose a few weeks ago.
-
Awesome figure..and good to see another entry.
But I'm a little new here and can't find the web-comic..is this guy from another piece of fiction, like a novel or something? Just curious to see the back story on this guy.
Yeah. Commander Chance was given a new look and all. He can be found in the web comic forum under the name
ORION COMPANY CHRONICLES. Hope that helps. I'm still working on part 5 so he'll be in there soon.

Also do we email the pics to the same address as always or how do I get the pics to you mods?
-
Squire, I'll make an announcement about images in a couple of days....
Cheers,
Jules

Wish I had put in an entry. All the customs look great. Nice work to all. I would not want to be the one picking a winner. It would be much to difficult to choose.
