Title: My 1/12 custom figures thread
Post by: Shili Jay on August 04, 2020, 02:05:30 PM
Rebels Phoenix Leader Hera Syndulla. Simple limb swap/ repaint custom using The Black Series Hera Syndulla and Jania Solo. Hera donated- head sculpt, hands, forearms, feet, and ankle holster. Jania donated- bust, torso, thighs, biceps, and vest. During construction, I kinda forgot to do away with the gun belt leg strap, so, I added a pouch. No alterations were done to head sculpt. Citadel and Vallejo paints were used.

Title: 1/12 Gotal merchant
Post by: Shili Jay on August 04, 2020, 03:52:52 PM
Ever since watching the first episode of Rebels, I've wanted to do my take on a Gotal merchant. Using Constable Zuvio as a base and a Obi Wan bust and cutting the combo sash/obi/belt free from the tunic, of the Obi wan, I had all my Black Series fodder parts needed. The Gotal head cast  and hand casts were purchased from Outer Rim Traders and articulated with elbow joints from a clearance Jyn Erso Black series figure. When painting I kinda envisioned Dr. Zaius from the original Planet of the Apes. Yes, even though my goal was to create a Gotal from Rebels, it was not to create him exactly as seen on screen. I tend to always go my own route in that regard. Now, has anyone got any Meilooruns? Also, not a professional photographer, just a plain jane iphone with some bandai model kit boxes bottoms for my photo box, please excuse the glare from. Hopefully one day, I can get my photography game upped a little! Until then just enjoying myself and glad I'm not the only toy nerd out there!

And yet once again this page completely totally seizes up and won't let me post pictures!!

Welp, in well over a month I have gotten 6 photos to load, sorry guys, I tried to get the painted photos to load. The page goes totally white and tells me every single time the photos have been submitted. But they are no where to be found. Floating around in internet limbo somewhere. I have emailed well over 10 times, 5 emails were directly returned and only one response gotten, that didn't give me anything to go on to know what I should do. So, I really have no idea what to do. If someone doesn't mind helping, it would be greatly appreciated.

Awesome Gotal! Great use of Zuvio. Yeah I have problems loading sometimes. I usually post my written, then go back and add the attachment pictures afterwards one at a time. It seems to work better, I guess it doesn't overload, rather than trying to upload all at once. Then sometimes I get a white screen, and I close out the window and it uploaded. That's just my experiences. I actually find this site to be less buggy than others, but Mabey I've gotten used to it.

Good job bud, it turned out great! 8) ..the picture is rotated because this is the custom vehicle section :P  ;D  ..re-post it here http://www.imperialshipyards.net/SMF/index.php?board=33.0  ;)

That’s exactly what I did. Worked fine other than rotating some of the pictures  as loading, then the page suddenly goes all white, and which it’s been doing that to me well over a month now, and I haven’t been able to post anything until today.

Ahhhh, ok, well I'm all thumbs cause I originally thought to click the action figures section, and upon realizing where it actually posted, I have reached out to apologize for said mistakes and to see about getting it in it's correct place. Didn't know that about the photos, thank you for the information.

Wow, this is one fine custom! I really like the color of her suit! Don't worry, if you click on the image it is rotated automatically. So I could view it upright - looks awesome!

I agree with JDeck - excellent recipe! Never thought Mr Zuvio could be this useful! Outer Rim Traders keep impressing me! Those 1/12 parts look great!
We also work with grey wax to sculpt crowns in our dental lab - it gives the best contrast! So your grey primer makes the details of your kit-bash pop in full depth! Cannot wait to see how you paint it up!

First off, once again, I am so sorry the smf forums format is giving your browser and device fits. I know how frustrating it can be. I am at a loss as to what advice to give as I know smf is not very "phone friendly"; I am just assuming you are using a phone here.

Your custom looks great and I am off to share it on the front pages. I see you have a custom vehicle too so I wanna go check that out.

Shipyarders, for those who mainly use their phones, can you give Jay some tricks to use to get his pictures posted?

Wow, just saw this Hera too. She just looks fantastic. I gotta admit, I like this look on her better than her main look on Rebels. Thank you for sharing her.

And I don't know why the smf forums inverts the pics like this (for the thumbnail), but it will show it in the right format and orientation when you click on it.

Off to share this on the front pages too.

Holy Bantha, your Gotal's head alone looks stunning enough to blow my mind! His eyes look so vivid! You got some serious painting skills buddy! Just wow!

Duros Rebel Pilot, Archive Luke body, head cast from Outer Rim Traders.

Rodian Rebel Pilot, Archive Luke body, Head cast from Outer Rim Traders. This was actually the first custom I ever attempted. So, that explains why the hands are not correct. I wanted to just get the feel of the whole thing at first before attempting to articulate, the whole"boil and pop" sanding for paint rub and the knee pins omg them knee pins at first!

Female Rodian background character, but with articulated hands. Head and hands cast in flexible resin by Outer Rim Traders. This was built using a Jyn Erso.

And Hope. Simple headswap from a Marvel Wasp figure. On to a more Rebel color painted Jaina Solo figure. I did matte spray Hope's face to tone down the glare.

JV-P12  hvac droid. 3d printed by Corey Fryia at Sandcrawler Customs. I removed the printed antenna and replaced with a brass rod, I also used a ball from a sewing needle and glued it on top. The front bar was not included, that is also brass rod that was bent and glued in place. Citadel and Vallejo paints were used. Streaking grime and rust streaks by AK interactive.

"Manny" as in Manny Bothan died to bring us this information! I believe this was my third full on custom, not counting heads purchased from someone else or model kits taped and rattle can painted. L.E. has been begging me for years to come to the custom side. I had too much self doubt, I'm not an artist and I just sat here on the fence lurking in awe at all the talent here and everywhere else, somehow he got through and I jumped off the fence and finally joined in, a couple years ago.
Manny is built on a Captain Poe Dameron body, I sanded the arms down to make it look more like he was wearing a shirt a vest instead of a jacket. And with that said Jyn who???( 😂just kidding Rogue One was FANTASTIC!)

Wow, so many great new customs. Off to the front pages to share a few more! I like your Manny and Havoc Droid.

Those pilots rock too. Just all around great work.

Yeah, this version of forums isn't very ipad friendly. I can't get it to work at all on my older generation ipad. I do talk to the developers from time to time when I have issues here so I will try to see if they can do something about functioning for ipads. They are really focused on phone users now though from what I can tell.

Hera turned out really well. I'm loving the development of the Gotal Jedi, great combination of parts. I look forward to the final painted version. Your work is really outstanding.
