Imperial Tower Update 9/15/12 - Psyclone's Customs
« on: August 13, 2009, 07:52:42 PM »
This update on the tower goes out to Tamer.  It's not done but I'm getting closer.  I had to get these images up because I know he's been patiently waiting to see the progress on the guns.

Mos Eisley Cantina

This is yet another work in progress that is coming along.  I decided to go with the vintage layout, mostly, for nostalgic reasons with this one.

Update 9/15/12 : Image links are broken due to a server change.  I'll get some up when I have time.

Imperial Tower/Base

This is  made mostly of wood and styrene with lots of found parts.  This has been a WIP for a while and I will update as I work on it.

Scroll to the end for the latest update (9/4/09)

Here are a few shots, although pretty blurry,  of the lower interior.  There is still a lot of work to be done.  The lights will be redone so that they look less like what they are and more like they fit in to the Imperial look. The red/black consoles and chairs were not done by me.  They were done for me a year or two ago by Owen Driscoll of OwensCustoms.com.

Psyclone,

Really great to see this one. This creation goes way beyond awesome. In my books this ranks equal first with Darth Kikinou's Super Star Destroyer as the best non-actual movie Star Wars creation. The fact that it's created for Star Wars figures actually put's it a fraction ahead of everything. Forget Owen's Customs this baby is simply diamond standard.

You have created an absolute marvel in every way. The detail is beautiful to look at. If it were a movie it would be in HD, making everything else VHS.

Love the work in progress images, you have set an new  standard my friend!

I'd love to see other things you have worked on, Star Wars or not, I bet you've made some mad stuff!

Thanks for putting all of my work to shame,

Jules

Wow, Psyclone, that is really cool! how tall is that thing?
I see now where the background for that atst driver group shot came from.
You are quite the builder and I can't wait to see more.

I hate you.   ;D  That's ... amazing.  Did you post a WIP thread for this at RS?  I can't remember if you did or not - but you sure should have!

Just awesome. I take it that platform that extends out is just the perfect level for that at-at troop compartment? Daggone, I can just see the guns sticking out of the top of this tower! Awesome work pysclone. I need to go look at that rebel team.

Death Star Turbolaser WIP - Psyclone's Customs
« Reply #13 on: September 03, 2009, 03:41:26 PM »
I finally got some images of another project that I've been working on.  This turbolaser is modeled after the actual prop used in the film, unlike the turbolaser that I created for the top of the Imperial Tower where I just threw it together.  Though it may not be perfect or 100% screen accurate I tried to follow the model used in the movie as closely as I could.  Unfortunately, the reference photos that I used didn't have every detail so what I couldn't see I improvised.  The size of the model is very close to the original size used in closeup shots from the film but I’ will re size and exaggerate some areas, especially the service platform and hand rails, to fit more in scale with the Hasbro 1:18 action figures. The inside of the lower section will also have an environment where figures can be placed. The model is built using hardboard, styrene sheets, styrene pieces, parts from model kits and other found stuff.  There are things I would change as I look back but I'm pretty happy with it so far.

I decided to go with 1/4 “ hardboard for the base. I made some cuts and used Elmer's Carpenter's Wood Glue to put them together.

Height = 20”          Base Diameter = 11 3/4”         Center Diameter = 10 1/2 “          Top Diameter = 9 1/4”

Starting with the lower section and moving my way up, the wood base was then covered with various thicknesses of sheet styrene.  The ladder rungs, basket and handrail was made from a metal clothing hanger.

If anyone wants to see really large and detailed photos you can go to the Death Star Turbolaser page on my site and click on the images.  There is also a section where I posted some reference photos that I used to work from.

Anyway, here it is so far...
