My burning question for you is:
What medium do you sculpt in? Wax? Clay?
welcome to the yards
do you make up your own characters or are they from comics or books?
will we see kerra holt from knight errant?
are you self taught, or did you take a degree in model making / engineering?
My favourite aspect of your work has to be the head painting, the detailing is so lifelike. Is there any advice / tutorials you can impart upon us .
I came across your work a while back elsewhere online and was blown away... to be honest I looked at my tub of aves apoxie sculpt and knocked it in the garbage...
Most of your work seems to be "one-of-a-kind" pieces. You're literally building the figure from scratch, and the only way to duplicate it would be to build another in the same process... Have you ever attempted making casts of your work?
I was looking more closely at the joint locations on your figs and it got me thinking: do you ever get the urge to make a joint change after you've started sculpting and does the Aves Fixit allow you to boil/pop or easily make changes?
I've read some of your posts on your blog and you've addressed scrapping figs from time to time after they did not work out the way you wanted. Are these a total scrap or is the Aves workable/durable enough to withstand more sanding/resculpting (or even boil-n-pop)?
These are breathtaking. Knowing how small these figures are you are working almost at nano scale on the eyes and eye makeup, yet the detailing looks as if it's life size, applied by a make up artist.
I would love to see your tool kit, or a face painting tutorial.
You are inspiring us all!
You are a true artist!! :o
As a suggestion; I would like to see you sculpt a diorama, we don't have many DIO makers on these forums and yours would astound everyone!

Seeing your latest update makes me want to get back to finishing some of the sculpted pieces that have been waiting for me to tend to. I can't thank you enough for inspiring me to take up sculpting. Since I started I have grown to enjoy customizing a lot more than I did when I was just doing repaints and kitbashes. You brought a whole side of myself that I never knew existed and I can't thank you enough. Sculpting has made the customizing process a much more creative process and has allowed me to enjoy customizing beyond just feeling like an involved father, but getting to feel what it is like to have some creative expression back in my life. Your work is truly inspiring.
In my next sculpting project I am going to attempt to implement your whittling technique on a figure and then build up from a skeleton so I can get the proportions I want the piece to have.
Thanks again for your inspiring work!
Great work as always Dayton!
What took you so long to get over here?
Sith Fire, seriously, are these painted faces free of Photoshop alteration??? not that it matters, but the detailing on the eyes is perfect, I even see some iris colouration...
Wow, most impressive.
I would love to see this with some of your great Sith on there!

On the front page. I would love to see this with some of your great Sith on there!
Wow. Just wow. I love your work. Have you done any vehicles or droids?
I also had a crazy hairbrained idea about getting you and our other master caster Clonehead together to just see what you two could share about casting. I think it would be like an EF Hutton commercial. Anyone old enough to remember EF Hutton?
We continue to week of Sith Fire 30....
Those Tonnika Sisters just look gorgeous to me. Wonder if we will ever get Lucasfilm to give Hasbro the green light to make these? Awesome work Dayton.
Oh, I did see a FB update somewhere that Dayton is just about fnished his awesome Vader too.

Tamer - thanks for adding my work to the front page! The I.S.Y is the only site I've found that gives attention to all creative work, whether it be beginners or advanced.
Utterly mind-blowing.
Yeah, I agree Chad. With Dayton's great Malgus I am afraid I am gonna be so dissapointed with the new Hasbro release. I can't wait to see what Sith Fire 30 shows us next.i've seen the picture of that figure, and am not impressed as of yet,of course dayton's stuff always blows Hasbro's out of the water.
ya know... I was watching the special features on the star wars blu ray and I was watching all the concept artwork and talk about the original sculptures of each figure....
and all I could think about were your customs and why your not working for a special effects studio!
Beautiful work as always. If only a toy manufacturer would release your figures. I'd want them all. Totally love your Furlag. I love the detail you capture in the eyes of your figures. Whenever I look at your work I walk away feeling like I still have so much to learn. Especially with my sculpting and painting. It's really cool to see what can be accomplished. I also need to update your video on the blog now that you have so many new finished pieces. I'm definitely going to start working on that soon.
Did anyone read Dayton's latest Facebook Post? Evidently some tools on there are actually accosting him because he doesn't sell any of his work or is willing to make what they want. And are sending him hateful stuff.
I just have to shake my head about the human race sometimes. Can't we sometimes just step back and admire the work and the art?
