Legacy Collection Scramble on Yavin Battle Pack
« on: May 03, 2009, 05:14:19 AM »
I picked this one up at a Super Target, yesterday for just over $23.
Part of the Legacy Collection and one of the ones that I have been waiting for, this Battle Pack includes:
R5-K6  Astromech belonging to Red Leader
Red Leader Garven Dreis x-wing pilot
Rebel Ground Crewman with transport

Packaging looks nice on this one and of special interest is the multi layered cardboard backdrop giving a 3-d effect to the image of an x-wing hanger in the background.

R5-K6 is a repaint of the Saga R5-D4 figure and while sporting a great paintjob, does not have a retractable but rather has a removable third leg.

The Garven Dreis figure is a fine example of how an x-wing pilot should be done and features super articulation with the upper body joint at the bottom of the chest rather than at the waist. Body sculpt looks nice and the seperately cast airbox and airhose make for a nice bit of on-body detail. "airbox is glued onto chest and not too sloppily, i might add" His removable helmet has a great paintjob and fits the head just right. His ball jointed head boasts a nice face sculpt that sits on a neck mount that could have used some flesh colored paint.
He comes with a small pistol.

The Rebel Ground Crew figure also has a nice body sculpt with great paint apps and is also super arty. His ball mounted head also features a nice face sculpt and almost looks like someone that I know. His removable helmet also fits just right and looks like a fine candidate for me to make a mold of. He includes a slightly bigger pistol that could seat a little deeper into his side slung holster. A hole in the bottom of the holster could have corrected this.

The Ground Transport is a nice addition to anyone's rebel hanger and features rolling wheels, an opening set of hatch doors  in the front that reveal a storage compartment, decent paint work on the controls and a platform for the driver that isn't marred by a footpeg. "you shouldn't need one since the figure can just hold onto the control handle"

All in all, I am impressed with the overall quality of this set. Bravo, Hasbro! Good job on this one. Hopefully the rest of the battle packs and vehicle releases that are on the horizon will exhibit this same attention to detail.
This one earns high marks from me.

It is a nice set, Chad, thanks for the "nice job"!
I'm sure that it is hard on you, sometimes. Think of all the green that you are saving, though.

Sure does make one pine away for one of each again, but I gotta stick to my ESB focus. Daggone though, looks sweet.

I double-checked TRU today while I was in town - no joy on a restock  :'(

I'll look at Target tomorrow, if everything flows right.  *Might* get to hit a couple of more major WalMarts, too.  But then comes the hard part...do I get it??  Damn ebay!!!

...heads out to start picking up beer cans on the highway...

Doc, I can keep my eyes peeled for you on this, if you like.
We can do a transaction here for things, also. You do have your shipyards feedback score to consider, and this would be another opportunity for you to build it up.

Thankee, chief!  Lemme see how my birthday goes.  Every now and then, folks surprise me and actually get me presents I don't know about.  I also ran across something last night that might ... influence things.

Y'know what is missing from this BP?  A pilot's ladder and/or a rolling walkway/gantry.  We got spoiled on the Jedi Training sets - MF and Dagobah - with the extra crates and such.  I know, the "scooter" should make up for it.  Maybe we could get a "Rebel Hanger" BP?  Another Tech with ladders and gantries and crates.  I know, I know - "Share whatcher smokin' cuz its gotta be some goooood stuff!"   ;D

Yeah Tamer those rebel techs would look right at home in an AT-AT or AT-ST just swap the helmets with Imperial ones!  ;)
