The Zelosians
« on: December 28, 2009, 12:37:28 PM »
INFO: Zelosians were sentient plants native to Zelos II.

RACE: Zelosian
HEIGHT: 1.7 Meters Tall
SKIN: Green
DISTINCTION: Green skin, emerald green eyes, blind in the dark, chlorophyll instead of blood
LANGUAGE: Zelosian

HOMEWORLD:
Zelos II was a planet in the Zelos system subjugated by the Galactic Empire, which exported raw ores for the Imperial war machine. It was also the home world of the Zelosians. The Bare Forest, otherwise known as the Forest of the Walking Dead, was located in the mountains at the far north of the northern continent. The planet was orbited by four moons.

In 5 ABY a green Alliance Intelligence commando team attempted to destroy a hidden Imperial garrison on that planet, but was ambushed and destroyed, leaving Jai Raventhorn, a former member of the Alliance Infiltrators as the unit's sole survivor. At that same time Platt Okeefe, Tru'eb Cholakk, and Dirk Harkness were attempting to secure a cache of Imperial weapons, but Dirk was captured in the attempt. Platt and Tru'eb, while trying to track down their partner, happened upon the garrison; the two infiltrated the prison and liberated Dirk and Jai. In the ensuing firefight the Imperial major in command was killed, prompting the executive officer to order a surrender.

BIOLOGY AND APPEARANCE:
Zelosians were Near-Humans outwardly identical to Humans, but all had green skin, emerald green eyes and liquid chlorophyll instead of blood. To Zelosians, sugar had the effect that alcohol had on Humans. Zelosians were absolutely blind in the dark, which meant that they stayed indoors after sunset and held many superstitions about the night (although their suspicions about zombies proved to be somewhat true, actually caused by corpses reanimated by parasitic worms). Although well-known galaxy-wide as skilled horticulturalists, few realized the Zelosians were not Humans.

CULTURE AND HISTORY:
Zelos II was subjugated by the Galactic Empire for ore mining, but the Zelosians were kept ignorant that the mining work they did supported the Imperial war machine. After the Battle of Endor, the Zelosians believed the Imperial military had abandoned Zelos II, not knowing of a hidden base in the Valley of Umbra; the New Republic sent in forces to take out the base, but walked into an ambush. In the wake of the seeming Imperial abandonment of the planet, Zelosian Galleros Nul declared martial law, making himself Mandated Commander of the People of Zelos. When the Imperial presence on Zelos II was exposed by Jai Raventhorn, Nul disavowed the Empire entirely and petitioned entrance for his world to the New Republic.
