The Jiivahar
« on: December 24, 2009, 10:07:31 AM »
INFO: The Jiivahar were sapients indigenous to Carest 1.

RACE: Jivahar
HEIGHT: 1.5 to 1.8 Meters Tall
SKIN: Dark brown to light green
DISTINCTION: Prehensile toes, delicate build, curious disposition, adhesive sarvin production
LANGUAGE: Jivahar

HOMEWORLD:
The forest world of Carest 1 has long been a favorite location for tourists throughout the galaxy. On this tranquil planet the tree-dwelling Jiivahar evolved from hairless simian stock. Millions of the species inhabit the giant conifers of the northern continents that make Carest 1 such a popular vacation site.

BIOLOGY AND APPEARANCE:
Due to their slender frame and long limbs, at first glance the Jiivahar seemed lanky and ungraceful. This couldn't be further from the truth, as their biology was perfect for racing through the treetops of their homeworld. Their bodies were narrow and streamlined, including their heads, so they could move between branches at high speed. Extremely limber, they could move through the forests at their leisure. They also possessed extremely light bodies, with hollow bird-like bones. Even though their light bodies aided in their climbing, it made them very susceptible to physical damage such as broken bones.

They possessed long fingers and toes which could completely encircle tree branches. On top of this, the Jiivahar also secrete sarvin from pores on their hands and feet. This substance was extremely adherent, sticking to all but the smoothest surface. When the Jiivahar no longer needed the sarvin, they could simply wash it away using controlled perspiration in mere moments.

Their skin color ranged from dark brown to light green, depending on their geographical location. Their skin also appeared to be smooth, but was actually covered in small pock marks, which aided in their climbing.

The Jiivahar were omnivores, but their diet consisted primarily of vine-nuts and sweet "trarra" berries.

CULTURE AND HISTORY:
Tourism is by far the largest industry on Carest 1. Beings from all over the galaxy are drawn to this little planet because of its natural beauty, tranquility and the magnificent thykar trees - some standing well over 150 meters - that dominate the northern continents. Many enterprising Jiivahar earn a considerable living as guides for the frequent tourists.

Many tourist have brought advanced technology; a few Jiivahar have acquired these items. The curiosity of the Jiivahar has made them quite enthusiastic about acquiring these "wonders," but the items have been the source of recent stress within Jiivahar society. Unwilling to give away their most treasured items, some Jiivahar have found themselves victims of theft. Worse yet, some Jiivahar outcasts have managed to obtain advanced weaponry and have begun to terrorize some Jiivahar talins. Time has yet to tell how this will affect Jiivahar society.

Due to their peaceful nature, only two wars were ever fought in all of Jiivahar history, and both due to times of extreme scarcity.

Carest 1 was a favorite tourist location throughout the galaxy. Offworlders came to the same coniferous forests where the Jiivahar lived, to enjoy the majestic forests. Many Jiivahar made their livings working as tour guides in their native forests.

Many Jiivahar joined the Rebel Alliance, as they saw the Empire as the complete opposite of everything they stood for and believed in. They often became wilderness fighters or woodland pathfinders for the Alliance.
