**** 1/72 TURBOLASER TOWER diorama - Youtube Video 01/06/18 on page 9 ****
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi,
here are some pics of my latest project (commisioned): SWING TO FREEDOM - The Diorama. The dimensions are about 15" x 15" x 22" (WxDxH).
The construction took about 4 weeks. Not 100% movie accurate, but I like it - hope you too ;) A Youtube Video is coming in the next days.

Wow, I agree with Clint. This looks fantastic. That has to be one happy customer. Look for this on our front page soon.
-
Holy smokes that is not only amazing, it's beautiful! That is the best chasm diorama I have ever seen!
Jason
-
That's amazing! It wouldn't take much for Hasbro to make something like this either. I'm blown away.
-
Thanks a lot my friends :) :)
Here - as promised - the Youtube HD-Video of this diorama : [/b][/size]

Awesome. On the front page.

Holy crap on a cracker!
Maxx, you, like Sith Fire take this hobby to a whole new level that cannot be bettered. Every detail is professionally finished with every detail so perfectly crafted. A total joy to see.

Today I want to introduce you to a my current (Pacific Rim) diorama Project: GIPSY DANGER
(http://i.imgur.com/rT7JJrp.jpg)
I hope this is ok, because the 18” GISPY DANGER from NECA is not a “proper” action figure like the 3.75” ones from Hasbro.
The diorama is still work in progress. The dimensions will be about 35"x14"x15" (WxDxH). I ordered the figure at Toys'R'us , but am still waiting for the delivery ...

This is only a test-part (not for the final diorama):

Very impressive work. I love the Death Star scene!
-
Thanks :)
Here are some pictures of the "ANTI KAIJU WALL" element. It's a larger rebuilt of a "Kotobukiya MECHANICAL CHAIN BASE" element.
I've built one "master" to cast the other 7 elements in the next days. Therefore the last picture with all 8 elements is (still) a "photoshop" ;)

Wow, this is one epic looking project already. Off to share.
-
This is some great work on display.
-
This is going to be amazing then again all your work is amazing.
Ron
-
Nice work so far. Can't wait to see more.
-
Oh yea, really awesome scratch builds! Can't wait to see those cast wall panels!
-
Thanks my friends :)
Here some pictures of the (re-)casting-process. The weight of the mold is about 2 kg and the weight of one wall segment is about 0.7kg.
This time I used "Plastalin Super" instead of Resin. Plastalin Super is a special kind of gypsum. It is very stable and nearly unbreakable and
costs only 1/5 of Resin.
More pictures here: http://maxx-replicas.jimdo.com/wip-projekte/pacific-rim/ (http://maxx-replicas.jimdo.com/wip-projekte/pacific-rim/)
Left: Master / Right: Recast
(http://i.imgur.com/rs79s4r.jpg)
I'll do all 8 segments in the next days...
-
Wow, looks like a great product I have never heard of before used to great effect here. Off to share.
-
Great looking mold and cast wall section! Do you use a pressure pot?
-
One of the great advantages of Plastalin-Super is that it can be shed 99.9% bubble free! The mix is: 4 parts powder to 1 part water.
The consistency is then similar to milk, so much smoother than liquid Resin. Therefore, there are no bubbles in casting. Because of that,
there is no need to use a pressure pot (but I also have no pressure pot).
But it is not so good for complete models or for example "head's". Since Resin is still the best. Plastalin-Super is more a relief casting material.
-
Ah, OK, thanks for that info. Very interesting stuff, I had never heard of it. The consistency of milk, man, that is perfect! Once again, great job!

.
OMG!!! Amazing! Not only is the craftsmanship top notch but the way you shot the images has that cold, imperial, death star-like atmosphere you would expect roaming the corridors of the battle station. This is some quality work Maxx! I'm also impressed with your recent work in progress for Pacific Rim! That Plastalin Super - I think I've heard about this material once on the RPF - perhaps it was you? Not sure but am very curious to try it. I have some wall reliefs of my own to replicate and can use to cut in cost :)
-
@sith_fire30 : thanks a lot my friend :) but it was not my post in the RPF forum. ;)
Here's the (German) seller where I've bought the "Plastalin-Super": http://www.ebay.de/itm/Reliefgiessmasse-Plastalin-Super-5kg-brilliantweis-/390285910941?pt=Gie%C3%9Fformen_Materialien&hash=item5adeda639d (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5575055288&toolid=10001&campid=5337373868&customid=&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.de%2Fitm%2FReliefgiessmasse-Plastalin-Super-5kg-brilliantweis-%2F390285910941%3Fpt%3DGie%25C3%259Fformen_Materialien%26hash%3Ditem5adeda639d)

Many thanks for your feedbacks an comments.
@Tamer: PR was also one of my favorite movies in 2013.....and this year it could be GODZILLA... ;)
As a huge Star Wars fan and of that what they have done 1976 in the ILM modelshop, I'm working on a "never made before" Star Wars 1/18 diorama:
THE '76 ILM MODEL SHOP Diorama
The first thing what I've done, was a 1/18 model of the Dykstraflex motion control camera:

Your latest diorama is something really special. A real homage to a moment in time where true magic was made. If any of the original crew saw this I bet it would bring a tear to their eyes.

Did you just get an upgrade on your smartphone that freed this one up for your dio?
-
Thanks my friends 0/
Did you just get an upgrade on your smartphone that freed this one up for your dio?
No, it's not my smartphone :D (but this would be a cheap method to built a "briefing-screen" :) ).
I've used a special kind of hardware (similar to small advertising video players) which allows to play
and/or stop the video pressing only one button.
-
I think I speak for us all when I ask for more info on that video screen!
-
The hardware for the briefing screen based on a new "display plaque" concept which I've developed in 2012.
The idea was to construct a state of the art display plaque for toy figures and/or models, which allows you to
show of your own videos, that "fits" to the character or the model. The most important thing was, to make it
user friendly with only one button (on/off).
Here some specs:
- Supports AVI-Files (DIVX format - no sound)
- Resolution 480x200 pixel
- USB-Connetor for uploading own videos and battery charging
- Inbuilt li-ion battery (rechargeable)
- Dimensions: 12,5 x 7 x 1,7 cm ( 4cm with stand)
- 150 MB Ram (up to 30 min. Video lengh)
- 2.5h nonstop playtime
- Video loop funktion
Unfortunately there are still some technical problems which I've to fix, but at the moment I haven't enough
time to finish this project :-\ Maybe in the near future I can show you the final product....
Here's a short video of the Motion-Plaque prototype:
-
So is this, or will this, be a product a person can buy?
That video is stunning and is now on our front page. So cool, this would be cool to just have for your one of a kind collectibles too!
-
Thanks my friend (http://www.animaatjes.de/smileys/smileys-und-emoticons/prost/smileys-prost-935081.gif) (http://www.animaatjes.de/smileys/)
So is this, or will this, be a product a person can buy?
That's the idea behind the project ;) but I've really no idea how long it will take to develop a "ready to sell" product...sorry :-\
Ok, here's are some pics of the (one of two) new "making of" diorama (maybe in the future I will do a repaint on the truck ::) 8))

With more "projects" to come in 2018 you mean more "masterpieces", right? When does ILM finally employ you as artist? :D

Thanks for that compliment Philipp :) :) :) ...I'm still waiting for a call from those ;D ;D ;D ;D - Regards from Karlsruhe ;)

Wow your entire video is why I hate and cannot connect to CGI effects. If that was on the screen moving and not some computer graphic it would blow my mind.
Incredible craftsmanship.
-
Seriously, ILM would be smart to add you to their crew with an annual 6-figure salary! Disney is buying everything so the future of the film industry is safe! You got such an amazing talent!
I mean your projects are displayed in a Museum already - I've already seen them in Mönchengladbach and on RebelCon - just excellent work, absolutely unique...that should be enough excellent reputation for a contract at ILM.
