Title: I think I have a Star Wars Problem! My Collection
Post by: Buried Egg on June 13, 2014, 08:39:56 PM
This is my collection as of last June. It just keeps growing and growing. I was really dismayed at how my figures and dioramas were displaying under ordinary lighting. So last year I used my hobbyist-level knowledge of micro-electronics to create AC-powered custom LED lighting for all my shelving and dios. Just walk in the room and flip one switch and all the lights are on! (including the internal figure LEDs like R2-D2's!):

Hope you enjoy!

Okay, just saw this. Sorry I'm so late in responding. Will share to the IS FB page now. I'm visiting with family for the weekend with only a laptop but let me see if I have anything on this hard drive I can post on your site. Thanks!

Also, the Bespin "Carbon Freeze Chamber" was a SW Fan Club Excclusive. Came out in 2001. They go for pretty high prices on eBay but if you do a "Saved Search" and wait a few months you can nab one for below $40! Got mine for $23! What you see in my pics was heavily modified. I disassembled the entire thing and reconfigured it to match the setup in ESB more closely. Used yellow "Brake Light Repair Tape" from Walmart to line the underside so that the oval holes throughout the flooring and steps would glow yellow like in the films.

Then I wired LED lighting into the whole underside and hooked it up to a 5v Cell Phone charger with lots of resistors and converted it to AC power. More on the electronic side in another post! Complicated. Need to use Multimeter and measure carefully or everything will blow! I've created tutorials on my private server. I can post tutorial with pics directly here in the forums or whichever Forum Category is most appropriate. DON'T screw around with that stuff (AC electricity) unless you know what you are doing!

Ha! Glad I could tell people about the Freeze Chamber. Thanks for the compliment. I was pretty nervous tearing it apart. I actually modded in such a way that I could always go back if it turned out poorly!

Thank you! It was really fun seeing it come together when working on it because I wasn't really sure it would work in the end! I really have to get more pics up here. I've spent each evening looking at everyone else's excellent work here that I always end up running out of time!
