I know *exactly* how that feels, Pat!  But I have to add "and skills" to the list.

Well, I'm starting a new project, even with 3 other projects are in the works, but I was so excited about the concept in my mind, I just HAD to get a start on it!

I'm starting off with the POTF2 A-Wing with pilot.  I don't have any WIP pics yet, but all I've done is put on a layer of light grey primer before I go to the next color.  I have a grandiose plan now going on, and I need another vacation to get it all done!

No, actually!  I'm going with  a white pearl base coat, with 2 colors to accent this ship.  However, this ship is only the start of things, so we'll see how this goes...

Oh, there'll be pics of my train set as soon as I get it rolling!  Seems there aren't enough hours in a day!

Re: Phatty's Custom Vehicles - Vanguard A-Wing (12/30/09)

Here are the opening shots of my Vanguard A-Wing.  No story behind it yet, but I'm hoping it will flesh out the way I am imagining it to!  I've taken the POTF2 A-Wing and painted it with a grey primer, taping off the clear portions of the jets and cockpit windshield.  From there, I've been using Tamiya White Pearl spray cans to do the main color layers.  Unfortunately, I hate how the Tamiya spray cans work.  They puddle and leave large pools of paint on the underside of what you are painting.  I've gone through 3 cans of this stuff at $6.50/can.  Not real happy with that part, but I AM happy with the overall color of it so far.  You may not be able to see it from these pics, but you can slightly see hints of grey through the white, so it lends a bit of "space dust" to the overal theme already.  So, here is the beginning...

Good start, buddy. I will be watching with interest. Why is it that tamyia, the maker of some of the best model kits in the world, just can't do paint very well?

I don't know, but I think I'm going to have to sand some spots down to make it look right.

looks good so far.... I love the streamline look of the a-wing, second to the tie interceptor the a-wing was always my favorite OTC vehicle.

Thanks Ron!  I'm adding some splashes of color already, and I'm very happy with the color choices I went with.  There should be more WIP pics later this evening!

Here is an update on my Vanguard A-Wing.  I used a clear orange to paint the jets, to give it a lively appearance.  I used white pearl for my main color, flat blue for major accents, and turn signal yellow for minor accents.  I have to clean up the cockpit cover and add in more of the blue and a few spots of yellow yet, but here's the project so far, about 70% done.  I'm loving the colors, but have to find a better white pearl paint to use: Those spray canisters were horrible.  Maybe now that I have an air compressor, I can finally go out and get that airbrush and make it a LOT easier.
