Found this beast of a vehicle at a Target, last week, for $99.99
Though the Turbo Tank was seen briefly in ROTS, it has been one of those iconic Republic vehicles that we thought that we would never see.
Well, here it is! Coming out of the box, the bohemoth isnt too taxing to assemble and comes with a detailed instruction sheet and a small decal sheet containing 6-8 decals.
When assembled, the Turbo Tank has a whole pocket-full of features, most of which, we have heard about.
You got the cylindrical crowes nest which recesses into the top of the forward control area and extends up with a floor and enough room inside to contain one clone standing watch.
You got some smaller anti personele guns on the sides that will spin into position.
You have the main driving cockpit area up front accessable by a swing up hatch on either side and two control seats with consoles.
Just aft of that area, there are these two rectangle box missle launchers that extend from and retract into the side of the vehicle. both of these spin into position on an axis and hold three missiles each launching controlled by three buttons on each launcher.
Just aft of these, there is a mid-sized interior area with side-swing open doors. each of these doors have a standing shelf with pegs for mounting clones.
Just aft of here is a larger interior area with swing down doors to access the area. These doors have foot pegs for mounting figures. Inside this area, on the aft wall, there are two standing controls which I would assume are for controlling those side guns. In the middle of this area is a standing gunner's station with foot pegs, controll handles, and a spinning action that matches the one shot missile launcher mounted topside.
Aft of this is the removable control station with swing down doors and a sitting gunners station inside that spins with the once again mounted missile launcher. Both launchers can pivot up and down as well as spin side to side.
Naturally, you have the large 10 rolling wheels. On the lower front of the vehicle, you have a door that swings down to reveal the barc speeder bay where you can load the included rolling speeder till it clicks into place. At the
touch of a top mounted button, the speeder launches out of the vehicle.
This one comes with the exclusive turbo tank driver fig.
There is an array of control buttons on the top of the vehicle that trigger different light and sound effects including voice clips from the clone wars cartoon series. Like the BMF, some of the buttons in other locations will trigger sound effects also, like the barc speeder launch button.
I havent gotten any batteries for the thing yet, so I will have to review the sound effects later.
Until then, check out all of the pics that I took.

I have thrown echo and arf trooper into some of these shots.

pics of the crowe's nest, the area of the tank where the removable control center goes and then, the removed control center.

Awesome!! Iv got to go looking for this. I thought they would never make it! How many figs came with it... just the driver??
-
yep, just one driver fig, John.
You could easily fit 3-4 battle packs worth of figures in this beast and still have room.
-
is it me or is it kind of bland?
It reminds me an awful lot of the ATAT from back in the day for some reason.
I'd pick it up if I found it for 20, maybe 40, but 100, not sure.
how is the speeder, just a stock one? Pilot looks rad.

I think we can assume this vehicle is gonna be a pretty big hit, not with we collectors, but with the play features for the kids. This thing is basically a big ole playset on wheels. I think it looks like a walker without a neck and with wheels. That driver looks pretty daggone sweet to me. I just have a hard time seeing any Clone Wars figure or vehicle as not needing a little more meat on its bones. Still, if these go for the price the toysrus attes did a few weeks ago, I will probably bite. You know me and big ole SW vehicles.
-
I'll prolly buy one for the kids. ;)
You know, that Driver fig looks a LOT like the design I was working up for my IFT Gunner...
-
I'll probably regret this someday but I'm gonna pass on this. :-\
Clones aren't high on my priority list and if I was to spend that kinda money it would be towards a BMF. :D
Great review and it is a cool vehicle !! ;)
-
Ty, Rodger! I like your new avitar.

repaint of delux rots barc speeder with wheels. No draw string and has a slot in the back for the tank interior locking mechanism.

My son really wants this one... and deep down so do I, but I would rather have a BMF like roger said.
But if they are still around later in the year I could see getting one for my son for his birthday in December.
If I found one cheap enough I'd get it now and keep it til then.......
Yeah right...... that baby would be open within a week.

You know something weird, I first saw this and remembered the scene in RotS with it, and how I thought it was kind of dumb how fast the thing moved, which combined with the name "turbo tank" made me decided that I had no interest in this. Then recently I remembered an old book I had called Star Wars: Vehicles and Vessels, and remembered the only thing in there with wheels, the Juggernaut. I always imagined that as being a massive, really slow moving thing (like a giant bulldozer with guns), and how creepy it would be that way. When I found out the turbo tank actually was the Juggernaut (just named the CTT because Toy Biz owned the name Juggernaut via Marvel, thanks wookieepedia), I think I totally reversed my opinion of it and want it now. Something about it having been the original concept art for the AT-AT and now being made into a toy is kind of awesome to me (even though I'm not really into the concept art figures). I would totally have to weather it a lot and give it a bit of rust here and there, but still.
-
I wanted one as soon as I saw the likeness of it, and it reminds me of Garm Bel Iblis's vehicle on SW Empire at War Forces of Corruption.
Plus it holds lots of figs and makes storing stuff easier, as long as you can find somewhere to put this massive thing.
Im sure I could find somewhere to park one.... and maybe an AT-TE as well......
-
Did you see the review I did for the turbo tank support squad, Dana? Those guns look pretty cool in their mounting positions on the tank.
-
Indeed I did, and I will be getting at least one set in the near future when I locate them nearby.
Could they also be used with the AT-TE? without too much modding?
We do enjoy things that fire projectiles all over the house, even if the wife doesnt appreciate it nearly as much.
We are going to the Wichita/Great Bend area to visit a friend and staying overnight and might find some deals in the area.
I could only get so lucky.....
-
To mount this on an atte, Dana, all that would be required is to bore a hole the proper diameter to accept the gun's mounting peg. It might look just as good using the guns tripod option and setting it anywhere on the atte.
-
That is good news. Now for a few of the new blue BARC speeder, and this assault squad.
And whatever just wont let us walk by....
-
I'm trying to find a few more of the rip cord barc speeders.
That gun might work stored in the ATTE as well.
-
I have a spare ripcord barc on hand Simon.
-
cool, what do you want for it?
Segnett owes me a few vehicles, so I might hit him up as well, :)
-
You got a new hoth rebel trooper? Or any of the roc new Joes?
-
Narce, I have a ripcord BARC Speeder whose box is *covered* in dust! Since I got the Neyo/Saleucami 2-pack, I'm a lot more willing to part with the racer Barc. If you happen to have a couple or three of these Joe's hanging about...
Paris Pursuit Baroness (black trenchcoat)
PP Snake Eyes (trenchcoat)
Pit Commando
Heavy Duty (w/ rotary grenade launcher)
25th SSgt. Airborne
25th Para-Viper (w/ FG-42 rifle)
25th Wraith
I'd also entertain notions of the Mando comic-pack figs, Tobbi Dala and Fenn Shysa.

I can probably snag a hoth trooper, they didn't sell well around here, :)
-
cool buddy. I am needing another one and his gun for a future project.
