Title: Dirty Gloves Custom Vehicles *new page 11 4/23
Post by: Dirty Gloves on July 05, 2011, 01:52:15 PM
Hi guys. I new to this board but not new to customizing. This is my first Star Wars custom vehicle. It's a custom of Kit Fisto's fighter that I made for board member, Jedihunter.

I added two custom made blue engine kits, each on there own switch, and 2 blue "lasers" on there own switch. Be sure to check the video to see them all in action. Thanks for checking it out.

The Jedi starfighter looks terrific!

I am completely unknowledgeable about the electronics aspect of doing this to customs, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate the awesomeness of this ship!

Thanks for all the kind words guys. Spooky's tutorial is right on the money. I build all my own LEDs doing the same exact steps he does. (Awesome dio by the way) I make my LEDs in 1.5mm, 3mm and 5mm varieties, I also use resistors to make them compatible for 3 volt or 9 volts (based on the space available in the vehicle) or compatible AC for standard outlets for dios. The only difference is a few added steps in making my "engines". I dremel out the engines and a spot for the switch, make  frosted "lenses" to cover the lights,   then use a combination of 5 to 6 leds per engine to achieve the desired effect. (different colors and flash rates to get an effect that looks like an intense afterburner.) It's hard work at first but the more you do it, the easier it gets. Every install is different and presents new challenges which it's always kinda fun to me.
If any of you don't want to hassle with building LEDs, I build mine in big batches and sell loose LEDs and kits, switched and battery straps should you ever need some. I also take commissions, which is what all of the vehicles I've posted so far are. Sadly, I don't get to keep any of them :( But the real fun to me is the install, anyway.

Work is really boring this morning, so here are a bunch on ground vehicles I'd thought I'd share. I won't do multiple views as that would take forever, but you can see more views and angles on my flickr account.

First is my Ecto-1, I won't post a picture as that won't due it justice. You have to see the video. It was my most complicated install.

Is this the new Captain America armored vehicle and is that turret the one from the old Joe MOBAT?  If that's a full-up custom, I want details!

Ok, is the large multi-cell box launcher scratchbuilt?  That is fantastic.  That's a...Wolfhound, I think?  Or Ice Dagger?
(I'm not exactly a big Joe guy - I see most Joe stuff as fodder for sci-fi/SW customs, y'know!)

Marvelous work, man - truly marvelous.  That stuff is just mind-blowingly great!

Thanks for all the kind words doc.

The first vehicle you quoted is a RHINO from the Joe movie line, but your right on the money about the turret. It's from the vintage mobat.

Yes, both of customs in the second pic are wolfhounds and the big missile box was scratch built by me. I really hard job that was a bitch to get square but something I'm really proud of.

The last vehicle is a mix of vintage joe parasite from the 90's and the cockpit is from one of the joe poc mechs. I'm still not finished with it, but should be awesome once it's done.
I'll keep you posted ;)

I dug thru your flickr account yesterday.  Absolutely STUNNING!!!  (to all other 'Yarders, if you ain't looked, hit that link in his sig!  NOW!!!!!)  Awesome work, man!!  At first glance, that box-launcher looked production.  Once I saw where you said it was a scratch, I got to looking *hard* at it and could see the tiny gaps at a couple of the corners.  Very impressive work!

I'd forgotten about the ROC Rhino - don't have one and hadn't really considered the possibility of needing one.  So, for me, that makes for a very refreshing "new look" to a vehicle.

That Parasite...  I looked up the original Parasite toy on ebay and yojoe.com so I could compare them.  You did a lot of work on that!  I'd originally thought the cockpit was maybe the old Skyhawk or newer Ghosthawk.  Joe 'Mech - eh, I was close.  ;D

Great stuff!  Glad you found your way to the 'Yards!

I've admitted to being Joe-stupid previously.  This looks like an old-style HISS tank.  But not.  Is this a heavily-rebuilt kitbash that just looks like a HISS or is this really a HISS that you just made look better?  Or something else entirely?

Almost all of these are or were commissioned. I am accepting more full commissions but I also just do led installs and sell kits. Just hit me up on here or with an email if you want to discuss a project or would like some work done.  corycastle@live.com

Oh yeah, looks good to me. Back on the front page.

I am used to seeing Joes make the trip over to SW as their articulation is usually so much better, but the Mace noggin sure does look good on a Joe fig.

Thanks man. Sorry for all the off topic stuff. I promise I'll have an actual SW fig to post in a couple days for the Sith contest.

I'm going to do my best not to drop any expletives..
But your work is F'n BADA$$.
I wouldn't worry about the G.I. Joe genre busting...I just love the work and hope to see more. I'm just glad to see the level of talent here at the Shipyards is continually producing such amazing work...from both veterans and new guys coming in and surpassing everything that has come before.
Again, awesome work and the pics..I know as an adult I like to say I'm setting up a diorama..but I've seen videos taken by my girlfriend while I'm "working" on one..it was incriminating proof that I'm playing with my action figures.

Hey thanks man, your comments are very much appreciated. I just want to exchange  my similar sentiments to your vehicle work. The A-wing and B-wing are both pieces of art and are intimating pieces for someone like myself just getting into SW stuff. I just hope my future SW vehicles look half as good as yours. And like your girlfriend, my wife gets considerable pleasure out of walking out back and making fun of me laying on the ground playing, err, I mean posing my toys for my pictures :)

Those troops look sweet.  I love the Joe movie spacesuits, they're very Sigma Six (a toyline I loved!) and Sam looks awesome.
Hasbro should take notice.  All the flipping and shooting missiles and whatnot are worthless compared to light up stuff.  Most kids would agree.

Was there any Joe or Star Wars vehicle that lit up, besides vintage X-Wing, vintage TIE, or the BMF?

Please, keep any and all coming.  These are just great.  I'm definitely going to hit you up when I'm LED ready.

Thanks. No cockpit lights on this one. It's a commission and all he wanted was engines. I'm doing two more of these with different paint schemes so I'll probably tweak the lighting package a bit on the other ones.

That great Vamp will go up later. Love the windshield on that one too. It is hard to believe you pull off what you do. The switches in the Y-Wing look like a part of the ship!

Had some fun with a truck I finished up last night.
The idea was an enemy technical you always see rebels using.
Here is a before shot
JoeDios - JoeDios Dioramas, Photos, collections, Reviews & Files - "MXS Race Rig" 1:18 Pickup Truck & Dirt Bike (http://www.joedios.com/dioramas/showimage.php?i=36474)
I added some fresh paint, headlights, turn signals, taillights and 4 flood lights on the roll bar on a separate switch. Lowered it quite a bit to fit the joe scale better and added a bed mounted 50. on a ball and socket joint so it can aim in any direction. I really like this one. Think I'll make a few more. :)

My wife scored me a CW y-wing at a yard sale a couple weeks ago, sadly it was in rough condition. It looked like it had been colored on with markers, so it was a perfect candidate for a new paint scheme. I decided to go with the pattern that was on the y-wing's in the Clone Wars episode, Landing at Point Rain. And as usual, put in some engine LED kits.

DG,

These are just straight forward, super cool conversions of vehicles that are just crying out for this type of upgrade. Hasbro and other toy manufacturers should feel ashamed when they see these superb examples.

I also love how you take photos of your work "in the field" so to speak. I wonder what is most fun, creating the customs or taking them outside, setting them up and photographing them???

I know it's been a while but, I've finally created something new. Sorry it's been so long, fatherhood has took an adjustment but I finally built a couple new vehicles. Hope ya'll enjoy!

Oh man this just kicks 32 kinds of @ss! I'd looove to see this kind of detail from hasbro! Have you done this kind of desert treatment on star wars vehicles?

OUTSTANDING.

I know the last two are Joe vehicles but with some paint they could very well be Jurassic Park vehicles. Either green with inGen on the door or grey with the classic red stripe.

The Cobra Swoop VTOL is used by Cobra's security force to monitor and patrol Cobra's factories and production facilities. Utilizing a combination of repulsor engines and turbine technology, it is extreme agile and fast and is perfectly suited for urban environments and tracking down the occasional Agent Z escapee.

I repainted an iron man jet from the avengers and added 9 leds.  It has two spotlights, 1 red flashing indicator light and 2 "repulsor" type engine kits on the bottom. Each engine utilizes 3 different leds to achieve and blue hue glowing affect. Please check the youtube link below to see a video of all the leds in action!

When I received my Black Dragon from bbts, it was such a huge let down. I stared at it for months but decided I had to do something. I repainted the black dragon vtol and added 5 leds. It features 1 upper and 1 lower red flashing indicator light, a red cockpit light and 2 spotlights for hunting down joe scum. It also has two separate switches, one for the red lights and a second for turning on the intense spotlights. It also features a tinted canopy and improved weaponry.

It's on ebay if you're interested.
