Star Wars Action Figure Database
« on: December 23, 2012, 11:51:05 AM »
I'm working on developing a fully searchable database for Star Wars action figures and am looking for community input.  There will be several features that will be very helpful to customizers as well as collectors in general.  I have a thread over at yakface.com and I invite anyone interested to take a look.  Thanks!

Right now I'm looking for information people would want available in the database, such as head post size so that you can search all the figures that have a 16/64th head post for doing head swaps.  I'm just trying to query the collecting community to see what info people want.  I've come up with a lot of the obvious stuff myself, but before I really start collecting the data, I want to make sure I have not missed anything the rest of the community would consider important.

that is a good idea especially with the head post sizes. I'm sure some general info that the custom guys would want would be each figures articulation and included accessories.

articulatiion would be a very welcome bit of info. I love the idea of neck nub size too.

One thing I have always thought would be awesome for us to develop is a figure database that would include will work with these parts or figures.

I assumed customizers would want a poa count, but it sounds like folks would also want an itemization to know things like if the figure has a swivel or ball joint elbow (for example).  I'll have to think about how to do that best.

What consistutes a major variation versus a minor variation?  It seems to me that changes to the card art, or significant repaint consistutes a Major variation, whereas small paint changes, accessory changes, small sculpting details seem to be Minor.

Lets take TVC for example:

Rebel Commando (white) / Rebel Commando (black) - Major
Kithaba Brown / Red bandana - Minor
Luke Skywalker Jedi Knight / Endor Capture - Major
Dr. Evazian painted / untainted scar - minor
Stormtrooper v1 / v2 helmet - Minor
Luke Skywalker Dagobah light / dark saber - Minor
Wedge card back v1 / v2 - Minor
Anakin / Darth Vader card name - Major?
Luke Skywalker Jedi Knight peg hole / no peg hole - Minor

Right now major variations would be listed as separate figures, and minor variations would be noted within the figures description.

I have not forgotten about UGH figures, and am still wrestling with how to deal with them.
