custom models as artworks: help appreciated
« on: June 26, 2011, 08:29:07 AM »
Hi All,
as some of you may have read in my artwork thread I am now working for the German non-profit amateur publisher XUN, offering my talents in doing covers and b&w illustrations. Now I am wondering if anyone of you is interested in some collaborativ works and is willing to provide me with photos of your custom SciFi vehicles, ships and figures, like troopers, pilots, etc.

For the magazines will be published on newsstands and book shops its not allowed to use Star Wars customs or any other copyrighted material, but of course a redesign with SW or other influences is allowed ( for instance Luke Sprywalkers Norris Tretch, replacing his Mando helmet and armor with a custom designed one and he is ready to go)...

as said its not about making money, just seeing ones work as art, getting a PDF or image file of the finished and published work to use them on personal webpages... its about the fun. So if you are interested in this kinda work you are welcome to introduce your customs to me by sending me a PM or mail and links or photos.
If there are any questions left, just ask them, I will be happy to anwer them.
Thank you very much!!

So you are gonna perhaps give the customizers here some publication exposure?!

That sounds awesome. Thanks Stefan.

Hey Shawn,
yes, that is my intension.
Everyone will get appropriate credit of course, infact I am planning to incorporate the customers name or sign or signature letters into the painting, e.g. as markings on a vehicle, name on a troopers armor...
I am not that inventive myself and here is a awesome bunch of figure makers, so why not put all creativity power together like we did before but this time for use on a cover of a magazine or b&w illustration for a whole new audience...? I see it as WIN-WIN for all three of us: of course the publisher, myself and the customizer.
And because its non-profit no-one earns more than the other, no bad feelings ;)
Star ships, speeders, walking tanks and fighting suits, OPS troopers, and so on, all are welcome as long as we can change their look so its not a Star Wars item.

Hrm, how "not Star Wars" does it have to be?  Some of my upcoming designs have some SW fig pieces but will alos have a substantial of NOT SW incorporated into them, with things changed around so that they (hopefully) feel like a different universe...

I guess there is no exact border-line, but well known design-pieces like Stormtrooper or Mando helmets are not allowed. Infact there is alwasy the possibility to change things only digital in the artwork phase. So just use the parts you want to and have fun :)
